HANNITY & COLMES

One of the real fun things about coming up to New York City to appear on Hannity & Colmes [video] is to wait to see what the newshounds people will say.  Newshounds prides itself as being a website that offers well thought-out critiques of the supposed right-wing bias of Fox News Channel.  The real problem here is that they end up critiquing opinion shows, not news content.  Well .. these people who post on Newshounds are leftist bedwetters and, by definition, they don't think rationally.

Here's the latest.  Last night I said that it was only rational to suspect that attacks on Barack Obama might be coming from those associated with the Clinton campaign machine.  One Newshounds bedwetter didn't particularly like that statement, so she posted this comment.  Notice please that nowhere in her comment did she posit a reason why it would be irrational to think that Hillary might be actually trying to undermine Barack's presidential bid.

By  the way .. a very enjoyable time last night with Geraldo Rivera and Dick Morris in the green room.

When do you think Sean is going to ask me to come to New York for a week and sub for him while he goes on vacation?  Ready when he is!

SOMEBODY'S GOTTA SAY IT

Sales remain strong, and for that I thank you.  I would have liked to have moved up one notch on the New York Times bestseller's list, but I moved down one.  In the second week of eligibility Somebody's Gotta Say It will move from No. 2 to No. 3.  NBC newsman Bob Woodward's book debuted at No. 2.  The competition is tough out there, but I love tough competition.  Right now the goal is to keep it up there in the Top Ten.  Again, let me say that I'm truly honored that so many of you -- including many of you who don't agree with me socially or politically even a little bit --are writing to tell me how much you've enjoyed Somebody's Gotta Say It.  It isn't your normal "talk show host expounds on politics" type of book. With chapters containing:

  • My version of a citizenship quiz;
  • How to throw cats out of airplanes;
  • Things that should be taught in government schools
  • Why you shouldn't vote for Republicans, Democrats or Libertarians
  • Shopping with a Russian housewife for groceries in Moscow
  • The "beauty" of Schenectady, New York
  • How to take advantage of a suicide
  • The always-works dollar bill savings program
  • The Rainbow (sucker) Fish

and other such delights, people of all political persuasions are finding something to like, frown and laugh about in the book.  I'm so pleased you're enjoying it so much.

THE WAR ON PRIVATE PROPERTY

OK .. some of you thought that I was perhaps pulling your legs yesterday when I told you about the  Hillside Children's Center in Seattle, Washington, a private school, that banned Legos.  The teachers didn't particularly like the Lego city the children were building because the young'uns seemed to have incorporated some concept of private property rights in their little fantasy community.  So ... the Lego community was mysteriously destroyed, and only allowed to be rebuilt when the children agreed with the teachers that the idea of private property was a bad one.  Yup .. you didn't believe me.  So I thought I would help you out with a few links today.

First, here is a link to the magazine cover containing the original story that appeared in  "Rethinking Schools."  Here is the article and here is a link to a critique of the Lego ban that appeared in an online magazine.

The message here is that anti-individualist, anti-private property socialist dogma is not only being taught in many government schools and most universities and colleges; you can also find it in private schools ... especially in hard-left communities like Seattle.

I hope that some of you parents out there followed my suggestion yesterday:  That being that when you sit down with your child at dinner one evening, why not ask them a simple question like:  "Tell me, Joseph.  What are you learning in school about private property rights?"  You might be shocked at the answer.

Now .. here's that nifty  box containing info on where I'll be signing books, where my ugly face will be showing up on television, and how you can order the book online.

Again ... thanks.

NONE OTHER THAN AL JAZEERA

Yup .. none other than Al Jazeera, the Islamic radical's cheerleading network, has now proclaimed that things are actually improving rapidly in Baghdad.  Democrats will be watching this development with concern.  Democrats have nothing to gain from good news in Iraq.  They are invested in America's failure in Iraq, and anything that makes Bush or our military in Iraq look good is poison to Democrat dreams of power.  A little more positive news from Al Jazeera and you can expect the left to launch a PR effort to convince the American people that it ain't necessarily so.

TO PARDON OR NOT TO PARDON

To pardon or not to pardon?  That is the question.  People are coming out of the woodwork saying President Bush should either pardon Scooter Libby or they shouldn't.  Democrats are warning Bush not to do it, and you can bet that's a threat.  By telling Bush not do pardon Libby, Harry Reid's statement was clear:  do that...and we'll make your life extremely miserable for the next 2 years.  So with that in mind, don't expect Bush to pardon Scooter Libby until after the 2008 election.

But what if Libby's bid for a new trial is rejected and he's sent to prison before that time?  So what.  He's looking at...at most...1 1/2 to 3 years in a minimum security prison.  Sort of along the lines of where Martha Stewart served her sentence.  President Bush has said he's going to stay out of the process until the legal issues are resolved.  Translation:  Scooter could be folding laundry until after the 2008 presidential election.

So Libby may have to wait awhile for his golden ticket.

By the way ... did the Democrats warn Clinton not to pardon Mark Rich in return for campaign  contributions and support?  I don't seem to remember any such warnings.  Oh well.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN

Yet another example of why we're never going to do anything about illegal immigration in this country.  Outrage is mounting because illegal aliens' children were stranded after their parents were rounded up and detained.  So...we should do nothing about the problem because there are children involved?  Please.

The same thing should happen that always happens when criminals are arrested and innocent children are involved:  the state takes custody and where possible, places the children with relatives.  End of story.  This isn't rocket science here.  But there are those that say the illegals shouldn't be arrested, deported or prosecuted...because there are children involved.

Nonsense.  Extend that logic to other law-breakers:  would you say a guy who robbed a bank shouldn't be put in prison because there is no one to take care of his kid?  How about a terrorist?  You get the idea.  It's a sad situation...but not hard to determine exactly what to do.  However, politicians eager to find any reason to do nothing about illegal immigration would seize on the issue.

REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

It's been a whilesincewe'veadded to ourcollection of redneckhaulingpictures. We'll fix that today. More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Michael Trice on Neal's Austin appearance in the Daily Texan.

Ann Coulter makes an impassioned plea in her latest column for the pardon of Scooter Libby.  She points out that Democrats have gotten away with far worse and she draws the conclusion that it is now illegal to be a Republican.

Pat Buchanan weighs in on the matter of Scooter Libby.
Never a fan of the neoconservatives or the War In Iraq, Pat says the Libby conviction is a human tragedy.  He compares Libby's plight with another high-profile perjury trial...that of Martha Stewart.

Robert Novak says Bush should pull the trigger right now...and just pardon Scooter Libby.  What wait until November of 2008?  And Novak has another interesting tidbit...Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald knew who Novak's source for his column was long before the columnist told him.

The Georgia NAACP is calling on the state to issue an apology for its role in slavery.  Why?  There's not one person alive today who is responsible for slavery.  If Georgia needs to apologize for slavery, then we need to call the British ambassador and demand an apology from his government for burning down the White House in the War of 1812.  Ridiculous.

So we're finally going to officially meet with the Iranians...but the discussion will be limited to Iraq.  Among topics to be discussed:  Iran's support of terrorism in Iraq.  How about we ask them about their nuclear program too.

So what if Rudy Giuliani is not socially conservative, John McCain tried to regulate free, political speech and Mitt Romney signed the biggest tax increase in Massachusetts' state history.  George Will still says they represent three good choices for president of the United States.

Republicans that get caught in morally dubious scandals may look like hypocrites, but Victor Davis Hanson reports that hypocrisy is indeed a bipartisan venture.  He says many Democrats get caught doing the same things, but somehow escape the ire of the press.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that the mainstream media is liberally biased these days.....but as Brent Bozell points out, there's another angle to media bias.  And that's story selection, that is deciding what to cover and what not to cover.

Larry Elder has an inspirational column today about what he calls several profiles in courage.
That is, people who are doing courageous things in their everyday lives.  Positive news that seems hard to come by these days.
