| Wednesday - March 28, 2007 OK. I'll admit it. Who da thunk it! Kansas City was sooo much more than I expected! This place is sensational! Step on the balcony of my hotel room at the Intercontinental and you're looking at something called The Plaza. Legend (perhaps fact?) has it that this was this was the first shopping center in America, though it certainly doesn't look like your run-of-the-mill shopping center. The book signing took place last night in The Plaza area at a place called the Unity Temple. OK ... so now I've pretty much covered it. A book signing in a casino, and one in a church. Last night the Temple was The Church of the Painful Truth. I want to thank my friends at Newsradio 980 KMBZ for their hospitality last night and for hosting my show this morning. As soon as the show is over we're on the way to Washington DC and a book signing this evening at the Barnes & Noble at 555 12th Street. Unfortunately I'm not on the air in DC, so I can't really expect hundreds to show up for this book signing as has been the norm ... but we'll see what happens! Onward! Friday night it's New Orleans!
A poll says that 50% of adults would not vote for Hillary. Don't get too excited. This does not mean that 50% of people likely to vote would not vote for Hillary ... but we can hope. It's nice to start out the day with a glimmer of hope, Isn't it?
I've told you about a feature in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution called the "Vent." Readers just call in a pithy comment. If the Vent editors like it, they print it. In today's Vent we find this: "As a new substitute teacher, I just received a letter from Fulton County schools warning me not to correct 'grammer.'" True? What do you think. The Fulton County schools are majority black. Everyone with an ounce of sense knows that only a racist teacher would ever dare to correct the grammar of a black student. Now never you mind that there ain't no employers out dere who would give no good job to nobody who don't speak good. The point is that you simply cannot correct the grammar of a black student without insulting their culture, heritage, tattoos, proficiency on the field of sports and hairstyle. These government schools are not about educating .. they're about not "disrespecting" the kids they're 'posed to be teaching. Now .. for those of you who don't know, and that would be most of you --- including virtually ALL of the fools who run the Fulton County government schools in Georgia, what we know as "ebonics," or the language style that is favored among many blacks, actually came from a few counties in Southwest England during the colonial period. So since it really isn't a black thing, but an English thing, there shouldn't be any problem in trying to correct it. We're talking about employability here --- and success in later life. Isn't that what schools are supposed to address? OK .. here is Boortz putting on his attorney's powdered wig. I am approached by an aide to a high administration official who has been called to testify before a Senate committee. After a bit of rather simple research I realize that this committee is investigating a non-crime, the firing of 8 U.S. Attorneys. Looking a little further I note that many of these U.S. Attorneys were working with expired contracts. They were told that their contracts were not to be renewed and asked to leave. No crime. I have a sense of deja vu. It seem to me that there is another similar situation that was recently in the news with many parallels to my client's situation. Ah ha! I remember! Scooter Libby! Scooter was also questioned, though this time by a special prosecutor, about a non-crime. The disclosure of the name of someone who was most definitely NOT a covert agent under the law. Now .. what happened to Libby? The prosecutor decided that Libby lied about something that he had absolutely no reason to lie about. Charges were filed. A jury was selected with great care to get as many Democrat anti-bush partisans on the panel as possible. A conviction for perjury and obstruction of justice was obtained -- after which jurors bemoaned the fact that they weren't able to reach higher into the Bush administration to convict someone. In the meantime, no charges were filed over the "leaking" of Valerie Plame's name. Why not? Because no crime was committed, and the investigators knew that no crime had been committed from the moment they began their investigation. So here we are again. A Senate panel, controlled by Democrats and dedicated to the idea of collecting some scalps over the firing of those U.S. Attorneys, has called my client to testify. I'm seriously concerned that if they ask her one single question to which she does not know the answer, and if she responds by saying "I don't remember," the headhunting Democrats on that committee could possibly say that she is lying, that she does remember, and that she should be indicted. Now .. what do I do? I saw the ease with which the federal prosecutors obtained a decidedly anti-Bush jury for the Libby trial, and now my client is being put under oath to testify about a perfectly legal action on the part of her employer. The whole thing stinks to high-heave, and I'm going to tell my client to invoke the Fifth. The Democrats on that committee are out for blood. They have stirred the leftist media into a complete frenzy over a non-crime. Anybody working for the administration who dares to go to Capitol Hill to testify in this matter is putting their liberty on the line. The Fifth it is. It's a Constitutional right, and I will instruct my client to take advantage of it.
There seems to be some question as to whether or not John Edwards should continue with his presidential campaign. Katie Couric made quite an issue of this in a CBS news interview earlier this week. Not that anyone asked me, but this is completely between John Edwards and his wife. It is nobody else's concern. I can easily see how Elizabeth Edwards might tell her husband that she wants him to follow his dream while they are battling the cancer recurrence. If that's the case, that is exactly what he should do .. in spite of the critics. I know that there are people reading this who are facing the same concerns. There is one important piece of advice I can share with you. It's simple. Avoid negativism. Avoid negative people. Don't entertain negative thoughts. There is a healing quality to positive thought. Make it a part of every minute of your day.
OK ... let's deal with this stupid "affordable housing" label. Any home that finds a willing buyer in the free marketplace is, by definition, affordable housing. Someone wanted it, could afford it, and bought it. What Queen Emma is driving at is not "affordable housing," but "low income" housing. In a free market economy people earn their way into nicer upper-income neighborhoods. You educate yourself, you work hard, you make good business and economic decisions, you keep your nose clean and work your way to the point where you can afford a nicer place to live in a nicer neighborhood. If you ignore your education, have a litter of rug rats you can't afford without the benefit of marriage, refuse to work any longer than the all-powerful 40-hour work week, make sure you always have the latest cell phone and ring tones, the coolest car with the nice dubs and the nicest clothes ... you aren't going to be able to buy that nice home or rent that nice apartment in one of those fancy new developments .... unless, that is, someone like Queen Emma comes along and uses the force of law to give you an advantage you haven't earned. At last night's meeting Queen Emma saw fit to invoke my name. She says that all I care about is race. That, of course, is a demagogues excuse. I don't recall mentioning Queen Emma's race at all while this matter has been discussed. Queen Emma also said that all of the people at the meeting had been getting bad information. Funny thing ... not once during the meeting did Queen Emma tell the people what that "bad information" was. Here's part of an email from a listener who was at the meeting:
The outcome? Not yet known. We'll find out when Queen Emma and her court votes on the redevelopment issue.
Some teachers at a private school in Seattle have
banned
the use of Legos in class by children. The reason? It turns out the children
had developed a Lego town and were learning about capitalism. The teachers
couldn't have this, so they banned the Legos...because they wanted the students
to learn that owning private property was evil. They also said that Lego town
had become a class-based, capitalist society and they (the teachers) believed
that was unjust and oppressive. This is what your precious cargo is learning
when you drop them off in the morning.

A new poll shows that there still may be hope for the American people when it comes to next year's presidential election. The Harris Poll of 2,223 potential votes showed that 50% of them would not vote for Hillary Clinton. But she scored huge among women.Great Britain says its soldiers weren't in Iranian waters when the Iran swooped down and kidnapped the 15 British sailors. As a matter of fact, they have the GPS data to back it up. And the Iranians can't even get that right...they're not sure where they picked up the troops.Remember when grocery stores switched from paper bags to plastic bags in order to save trees? Well, now the city of San Francisco is making them switch back. A ban is going into effect that would outlaw the usual plastic grocery sacks. Instead they would be required to only offer alternatives like paper and cloth. If you've been bored by the candidates for president on the GOP side, you might find some reason for optimism in a new poll. Former Tennessee Senator and Hollywood actor Fred Thompson is polling in the double digits. Only he isn't running. Small detail. Barack Obama is accusing George W. Bush of "social Darwinism." What exactly does that mean? You know, survival of the fittest. Obama wants government to make sure everybody is prosperous. Never forget that despite his public speaking abilities, Obama is a diehard Leftist. Tony Blankley is predicting that Hillary Clinton will easily become the 2008 Democratic nominee for president. This realization should be enough for Republicans in Washington to get their act together and find somebody to keep her from winding up in the Oval Office.Leave it to John Stossel to bring up a very politically incorrect topic and call out the media from time to time. He says kids are worried about being kidnapped largely for no reason. In fact, a kid is more likely to be caught in a tornado that abducted.Conservative columnist Debra Saunders is praising Elizabeth Edwards for the way she is conducting herself in public after being diagnosed with cancer. In fact, Saunders says Edwards' example should be a template for how to be a class act.The global temperature has increased 1 degree over the last 100 years. That much is not in dispute. But Walter E. Williams says what is not so clear is whether or not that increase in temperature is caused by man. Williams weighs in on the global warming hysteria. | ||||||
