No .. I'm not kidding. She actually came out with this idea at a speech before a Congressional Black Caucus forum. It's a brand new entitlement program, courtesy of Hillary Clinton. Just think about it! Download a baby, and presto!, the taxpayers owe your new child a cool five thousand! This is pure Hillary Clinton. This is a woman who believes that America is government. If government decides that every new baby gets five grand, then that's all there is to it. Every new baby gets five grand. Where does it come from? Oh, come on now. Ask Hillary and she'll just tell you it comes from the government. If you ask her where the government is going to get the money, she'll prattle on about repealing the Bush tax cuts or some such nonsense. Bottom line? A new entitlement program. Here's your birth certificate, here's $5,000, and welcome to America! Let me tell you how Hillary's idiotic little income redistribution idea is going to work out in real life --- after, that is, the young single women of this country make her our next president. First we'll have to figure out whether or not the five grand baby bonus will be paid to a baby born in this country of illegal aliens. Well of course it would! After all, the baby's a citizen, isn't he? We certainly don't want to discriminate. So .. here's a scenario that will become all-too common. Consuelo lives in Tijuana. Consuelo is pregnant .. bulging, wide-eyed pregnant. Sus roturas del agua. Consuelo heads for the border ... eager to get to the emergency room of a U.S. hospital. And why would that be? Why, so her baby can get it's $5,000, that's why? You couldn't figure that out on your own? Must be government educated. Pity. Another question. Just how will the parents be able to invest the baby's money? You can be sure there will be restrictions. Maybe this would be a good time to resurrect the Democrat's idea of "economically targeted investments." Maybe the law would say that you could only invest the money in stocks of a company that is deemed to be "union friendly!" Or maybe it could only be invested in savings institutions that show the politically correct inclination to make loans to minorities with bad credit and job histories! How would the baby bonus play out around election time? Well, that's a simple enough question to answer. The Democrats would have two stock campaign tactics ready for each election: (1) Vote for me and I'll raise the baby bonus to $6000! A sure winner with every pregnant or hoping-to-be pregnant voter out there. (2) Vote for a Republican and they're going to take your baby bonus away! What happens when spending gets a little tight? This one's simple also. Democrats will suggest that the baby bonus get phased out for people in upper income brackets. In other words, stiff the high achievers. In order to increase the baby bonus for lower and middle income parents, the Democrats will phase it out for the minority who earn the higher incomes. The math is so simple you should be able to figure it out even if you went to a government school. There are more households who make under $200,000 a year in this country than there are those who make more. Cut off the baby bonus for the evil rich, increase it for the poor and middle income types --- and the votes come rolling in. Remember Hillary shrieking "I want to take those profits" after Exxon Mobile posted a rather hefty profit figure? Sure she wants to take those profits. She already thinks they belong to her anyway! This is a woman who harbors a gut belief that every penny you earn belongs to the federal government. You are to be allowed to keep just enough of what you earn to keep you fat and reasonably complacent. Beyond that, it's hers, and she will throw it around the way she pleases. Hold tight, my friends. There's sure to be more Hillary absurdities on the way. I've been saying for quite some time now that if Hillary wins the presidency next year it will be on the votes of women --- particularly young, single women. Well, it looks like single women are going to have a bit of help putting Hillary in the White House. A group of about 50 evangelical Christian leaders - the James Dobson crowd - met in Salt Lake City over the weekend. It looks like they're on the verge of deciding to support a third-party candidate if Rudy Giuliani gets the GOP nomination. Apparently they're upset because Rudy wouldn't use the police power of government to put a gun to a woman's head and force her to have a baby she doesn't want to have. There may well be as many voters out there who cannot bring themselves to support the Republican Party because of religious zealots like these. Maybe, in the long run, the best solution might very well be to let the zealots - those who want to use the power of government to force others to live in accordance with their religious beliefs - just let the theocrats run off somewhere and form their own party, and then welcome home the Republicans who don't believe the government should be enforcing religious doctrine. James Dobson .. Hillary's pal. This past Saturday, Newt decided that he will not be running for president. He would like to remain the head of American Solutions (for Winning the Future), which is a tax-exempt political organization. On Saturday morning, hours before his American Solutions Day workshops at West Georgia University, Newt learned from his lawyers that, thanks to the McCain Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act, he would not be able to begin accepting campaign contributions while staying at the helm of American Solutions. Interesting, isn't it? Here in America a man who forms an organization dedicated to discussing and analyzing ideas that might preserve our country is not allowed to run for president as long as he remains in control of that organization. Thank you very much, Russ Feingold and John McCain.
Democrats suddenly do not care about the concept of "regressive taxes," seeing as the average smoker is proven to earn a lower income than the average non-smoker. One-third of adults living in poverty are smokers. This is really no surprise, since research also shows that smokers are, on the average, dumber than non-smokers. Goes with the territory. Rep. Jack Kingston, a Republican from Georgia, points out the fiscal irresponsibility of trying to fund a program entirely on a taxation of a declining revenue source. Kingston says that adequate funds needed for this program would require 22 million new smokers. The truth here is that the Democrats know full well that they aren't going to be able to finance their massive expansion of this health insurance program with money from smokers. They're conning us, and we should be bright enough to understand that. (But then there's that government school thing). Here's what is going to happen. Revenues from cigarette taxes will go down as the spending on the expanded S-CHIP program goes up. Democrats will then step forward and say that we just must have another tax increase - but only, of course, on the rich - to pay for the program. After all, nobody wants these children to lose their health care. The expanded program will cause perhaps millions of households to drop their private health care plans in favor of S-CHIP. Then, when they're on the hook for the government program, the Democrats bring on the tax increases. Come on, folks. We need to wake up here. In Fairfax County, the DC suburbs, hundreds of families are living in government-subsidized housing, paid for by taxpayers. However some of the household are earning up to $216,000 a year. The county housing administrators are aware and approve of this because they don't want to encourage occupants to move after they make decent money. Meanwhile, the county Department of Housing and Community Development is spending $4.5 million per year to run these housing programs. The median new-home price for this region is $960,000. The County would like to impose a new ceiling of $94,500 for a family for four. Meaning that families can stay in government housing, funded by other taxpayers, even if your family makes almost six figures a year. Income redistribution. Pure and simple.
Freston's son was diagnosed with a learning disability in the late 1990s. So the wealthy family decided to send him to an expensive Manhattan academy for learning disabled children. Fine so far. But then Freston did what many parents of special education students are now doing ... asking the city government school system to pay for his son's tuition. Federal law says that taxpayers must pay for private tuition payments if the government school system can't help the student's disability. The city of New York said it could help and offered a government school for special education, which Freston declined. So he sued. The taxpayers have paid $50,000 for the tuition of Freston's son, while waiting for the case to go to court. The city is arguing that the law only applies to students who have actually enrolled in government schools but can't get the proper help. Freston's son has never spent a day in government schools in his life.
The problem is that, shockingly, not all of the laborers are legal. So far, 12 workers have been detained because they were either illegal or using fake work permits. This is a $2.6 billion expansion project, and the government can't take the time to ensure that it is hiring legal workers? This "expansion" is supposed to help economic development in the El Paso area ... 80% of the population is Hispanic. Most are from Mexico.
A government middle school in Oak Park, Illinois has decided to ban ... hugging. Victoria Sharts is the principal of Percy Julian Middle School. Apparently they were having a problem with "hug lines" (whatever those are), so the principal decided to ban all hugging in the building. Sharts says that hugging is more appropriate for airports or family reunions and doesn't understand why students need to hug every few minutes in the halls. She also says that it was creating bottle-necked hallways and students were coming late to class. As far as the nature of the hugs, principal Sharts has decided that hugs sometimes don't seem so innocent. "Too long, too close, and usually between boys and girls," says principal Sharts. At this school, high-fiving is also a no no. REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Aww, look at the sweet couple all dressed up for the prom. We'll add them to the otherpromfolks residing in the 'ol scrap book. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS
You've heard me refer to Media Myrmidons quite a few times. Frankly, I'm a little bummed that they've been ignoring me lately. Maybe that's because they're concentrating so hard on Bill O'Reilly. Here's a bit of background on Hillary's own attack dogs. Juan Williams stands up for Bill O'Reilly. Now maybe O'Reilly will call Williams "pathetic" and "jealous," just as he did me when I stood up for what he said. O'Reilly is being falsely maligned here .. but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a jerk. Here's the story about the illegal alien dishwasher who had $59,000 stolen from him by our government. Then again ... he never paid taxes while he was here illegally earning the money. It's tough to figure out how to feel about this one. He screwed us .. then we screwed him right back. Here's your weekly Sunday column by Mark Steyn, pointing out the hypocrisy of the phrase "academic freedom." Tyrannies like Ahmadinejad are doing more than just "talking" when making speeches at American universities. Last week a US Senate resolution sought to label Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. Well now Iran's parliament has retaliated with a nonbinding resolution labeling the CIA and the US Army "terrorist organization." Well, our terrorist organization can beat up your terrorist organization. It seems that few in Iraq, including the US Embassy, agree with the Senate resolution to reshape Iraq according to ethnic territories. The prime sponsor of this idea was Democrat Senator Joseph Biden. The Supreme Court begins its new term today. At the top of many lists are decisions involving the war on terror and the right of habeas corpus for Gitmo detainees. A Liberal think-tank in Britain has come to the conclusion that hundreds of thousands of immigrants are a drain on Britain and its economy. It took a think tank to realize this? Well, it was a liberal think tank. Interviews for Justice Clarence Thomas upcoming autobiography reveal that he believes progressives are "far more vicious" than any southern racists. The Japanese are in protest over the government's order to change school textbooks. The textbooks say that the Japanese army forced civilians to kill themselves, rather than be killed by Americans during WWII. Los Angeles County and city officials are urging people, businesses and government to turn off lights for one hour next month in order to save energy ... and I assume fight global warming. This is known as "Earth Hour." How about "Idiot's Hour?" Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that "the freest women in the world are the women in Iran." Am I missing something? The prettiest women in the world are still clustered around Atlanta. South Carolina government schools are offering single-gender education to help students better cope with their awkward middle school years. On Friday in the Information Overload Hour, I told you about officials at Bengals' stadium shooting pigeons that have been pooping on fans. Apparently owners of the stadium have rescinded their request asking the city for permission to shoot the pigeons. | |||||
