AFTERTHOUGHT!

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FOR OWLGORE?

It looks like Gore is heading to Stockholm to claim the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Fine ... let him have it. That Nobel has been nothing but a reward for irrational leftist thought for some time now. If that murdering Yassir Arafat could be awarded the prize ... then it can't be all that much of an honor.

SAVE IT FOR THE GULLIBLE

We had a Muslim call the show today to castigate me for negative comments to what he termed his "loving and peaceful religion." Save it pal. We don't do political correctness here very well, and Islam is most assuredly not a peaceful and loving religion. Good try.

GREEN? HOW ABOUT RED?

The owners of The Empire State Building have announced plans to bathe the building in green light to celebrate the end of Ramadan. Well, it's their building and they can do what they wish. If it were a government-owned building I might have a problem. Now ... what if I owned the building? I would erect huge projectors that would project the image of blood flowing down the sides of the building. What better way to recognize Islam than the site of blood flowing down the sides of a signature building in New York City.

SAN FRANCISCO'S URBAN OUTDOORSMEN

San Francisco is having a family feud over the homeless. For years, the city has been known to enable its homeless population ... the panhandlers, street squatters and drug users.

But now, even the liberals are getting upset. They have tolerated the homeless in their backyard for too long, and now they want to do something about it. David Latterman, is the president of a San Francisco market research firm. He says, "People have realized they can hate George Bush but still not want people crapping in their doorway."

They have such a wonderful way of expressing themselves in San Francisco, don't they?

Years ago when Mayor Frank Jordan tried to get the homeless off the streets, he actually lost re-election because the hippies weren't happy with his anti-homeless policy. Mayor Jordan tried to get them off the streets because he realized one very important point: the homeless don't want "help." If you don't move them yourself, nine out of ten homeless persons say that they are not interested in shelter or housing. They just don't want it.

Now get this. The fight on how to battle homelessness is between the liberals and ... the progressives. Apparently the liberals are the ones that want to crack down and the progressives are sticking to the current policy. Fooled the hell out of me! I really didn't know there was a difference between the two. Sounds like the so-called "progressives" are actually a bit further to the left, if that's possible in San Francisco.

Latterman says that you know it is bad when even the left says they have had enough. And then get a load this ... this is the mentality of a liberal city like San Francisco. Latterman says, "This isn't the war in the Iraq ... We've been fed that line for a long time. If you support this [homeless initiative], you're a Bush supporter. You're a fascist."

Love the city ... but those leftist moonbats ... San Francisco is welcome to them.

STILL MORE FROM THE LEFT COAST

Another story from San Francisco. A federal judge has given in to labor and civil liberties organizations. The judge is temporarily blocking the U.S. government from cracking down on businesses employing illegal immigrants.

The Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security had a plan to send joint letter to businesses that have workers with Social Security numbers that don't match their names. The businesses would face penalties if it was shown that they were hiring illegal aliens.

These "No Match" letters were supposed to be sent starting in September until labor groups and immigrant activists filed a lawsuit. They claim that this policy puts a burden on employers and may cause "authorized immigrants" and U.S. citizens to lose their jobs over simple mistakes on their paper work. Activists say that this would be a violation of their rights!

I'm sorry but that is BS. That is NOT why these people are opposing this plan. "The legal citizens may lose their jobs if they incorrectly filled out their paperwork." If they made a mistake ... if they transposed a digit in their Social Security number ... they get every opportunity to correct it. . But these activists are hiding behind this pitiful argument in order to ensure that their fellow illegals don't lose their jobs. Or in this case, aren't even questioned. As for the unions ... you can figure that one out for yourself. They're looking for new members. Especially since more and more American workers are figuring out that unions do more harm than good.

PUBLIC VS. GOVERNMENT EDUCATION

Yes, yes I've seen this study. Basically, if a poor child goes to a government school they would do just the same if they went to a private school. "Wow, Boortz ... what do you have to say now?" It's very simple. The study goes on to point out that parents make the difference. Take a look at these findings:

  • In reading, family income, parental discussion, parental expectations, parental involvement and eighth-grade scores all positively affected 12th-grade reading scores. Scores weren't affected by the type of school a student attended unless it was a Catholic order school.
  • In math, parental discussions and involvement had no effect on achievement scores. Parental expectations and family income did have an impact. Prior eighth-grade test scores were heavily correlated to achievement on the 12th-grade test. Attending a Catholic religious order school had a positive effect on the math scores.
  • In science, income affected test scores but the other family characteristics did not. Prior test scores had the strongest impact. None of the school types had an edge over public high schools in boosting scores.
  • In history, parental expectations and parental discussion had an impact on scores, as did achievement on eighth-grade tests. The only kind of school that had a positive impact on scores was a Catholic religious order school.

Now here this. Parents who are willing to sacrifice to pay for the private education of their children are more likely to be parentally involved at home. Just look at this analysis on school choice ... just the mere idea of having a choice in your child's education boosts parental involvement.

The study says that poor students perform the same at public and private schools. No surprise. Schools, private or government, aren't a replacement for parents. This study does not address how a student from a family with parents who are not poor - parents who have a modicum of responsibility - do when they're transferred out of government schools.

Oh .. one more thing. Math and reading scores aside ... this study most certainly does not address the pro-government, anti-individualist indoctrination virtually all students get in government schools.

SURGEONS SIT, TAXPAYERS PAY

The future of our healthcare system in this country can currently be examined in Australia. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons is accusing the Australia's national health service of using "maintenance" as an excuse to not schedule patients for surgery.

They says that "maintenance" (in non-government speak) means cutting costs by reducing allotted operating time and reducing the number of intensive care beds needed for elective surgery.

Surgeons are leaving the government system left and right (good for them!) because they are so fed up with government budget constraints.

ARE YOU LISTENING PEOPLE? Here is another case where health care is being rationed because it has been nationalized! What in the wide, wide world of sports makes you think that this isn't going to happen here?

At the Westmead Hospital, surgeons were told by the administration not to book any patients ... despite an extensive waiting list for elective surgery. And every week surgeons are told to cut the number of patients on their list and are finished by 10am. The surgeons say that they are still "working," and still being paid but sitting around doing nothing.

Almost every week surgery teams got phone calls from government administrators telling them to only book two patients on surgery day. They were told to do this because it "relieves pressure on bed availability" and "keeps cancellation figures down." Huh. So the government is so concerned about its cancellation figures, that they are actually booking less people to have less chance of cancellation. That makes perfect sense.

The college spokeswoman says that this budget-cutting "exercise" was happening because operating rooms are expensive to run. There is not a problem with "maintenance."

The spokeswoman recounts the following:

"We're hearing more and more cases of where hospitals don't have the right surgery teams, they don't have the expert staff to do the operating, sometimes they don't have the correct equipment to do the operation ...Some [patients] are even being wheeled down to the operating room and then told to go home. We hear stories like this all the time."

I still believe that socialized medicine, nationalized medicine, single-payer health care, ... whatever label you want to apply ... is inevitable in this country. We have managed to produce a population that overwhelmingly believes that they are not responsible for their own health care.

This isn't going to be fun, folks. Try to stay healthy.

Jimmy Carter, the worst president in the history of this country, and the man who never met a dictator he didn't like, says that Bush is using torture. This is all part of defining torture down. If you deny a terrorist detainee access to the Internet ... torture?

The Congress is taking the time to pass legislation designating actions during WWI as genocide. Typically, the Congress hasn't taken the time to think about the geopolitical ramifications of their vote ... then again, a majority of them are Democrats.

Hillary Clinton now wants to ensure your "right" to the Internet. Her newest program "Connect America" calls for a national broadband Internet system ... sounds like more government to me! Didn't I tell you that there would be a new entitlement program from this dangerous woman within a few days? It only took one!

It's sad that our President has to beg Congress not to "weaken" the power of US spy agencies to eavesdrop on suspected terrorists. We would be taking a step backwards in terms of collecting intelligence.

For those of you who have been keeping up with the trial of Jose Ernesto Medellin, here is the latest. The state Supreme Court of Texas ruled that the president does not have the power to enforce International court decisions in the state of Texas.
