First ... maybe a little review. Pete Stark seems to have a history of saying outrageous things about other public figures.
According to Wikipedia (link above) The San Francisco Chronicle once editorialized: "Only a politician who assumes he has a job for life could behave so badly on a semi-regular basis by spewing personalized invective that might get him punched in certain East Bay taverns ... Surely there must be someone along the shoreline between Alameda and Fremont who could represent the good citizens of the district with class and dignity. It's not the case now." So .. now that you have a little background, here's what Stark had to say about George Bush yesterday. The comment was made in reference to Bush's veto of the MoveOn Democrat's attempt to vastly expand the S-CHIP program for children's health care:
Click here to catch Stark's little tantrum. Republicans are spinning around on their eyebrows demanding an apology from Stark. They should save their breath. Wrong tactic. Enough of this apology nonsense. Just let Stark's statement stand on its own ... and use it to show the deep, seething hatred that so many Democrats have toward George Bush ... a hatred so intense that they're willing to sabotage the efforts or our men and women fighting the Islamic radical menace.
In response to a question from an anti-war lefty, Watson says that she would support impeachment of President Bush. She also had this to say, "Right now, Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi is working very quietly and very effectively, behind the scenes. We need 285 votes to uphold an impeachment, and so far we have 260 members telling us they support impeachment." See the video here for yourself. Pelosi's office has said that impeachment is "off the table," but did not remark on Diane Watson's recent comments. Remember, though, that Pelosi also promised a up or down vote on the Armenian resolution if it was passed out of committee. When she figured out the vote would fail, she fell back on her pledge. The lesson here is that you don't trust what Pelosi says. So there are a couple of things we can take away from this. Either Nancy really is cooking up an impeachment, and she has lied to the American people. Or she does not know what is going on with the rest of her party that is trying to impeach President Bush. Or Diane Watson is a liar and just trying to stir the puddin' for some anti-war junkies. The U.S. government wants to shut down a private Islamic school operating in Virginia, a school that is supported by the Saudi government. The US wants to make sure that the school is not fostering radical Islam. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom has criticized the school, the Islamic Saudi Academy, for a lack of religious freedom and promotion of religious extremism. The private school has almost 1,000 students grades K-12. The report shows that the school uses a curriculum similar to Saudi schools, which promote hatred of and intolerance against Jews, Christians and Shiite Muslims. Typical statements in Saudi textbooks include that the hour of judgment will not come "until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them." Of course, like typical government, this commission doesn't have the power to do anything, but it has to recommend that something be done by another agency. In this case it recommends that the State Department ask the Saudi government to close the school until the textbooks can be evaluated and procedures can be created to separate the school from the Saudi Embassy. Yeah, like that will ever happen. To say that the school lacks Saudi political influence is just flat out wrong. The Saudi ambassador to the United States serves as chairman of the school's board of directors. And in 2005, the school's valedictorian was charged with joining al Qaeda while attending college in Saudi Arabia and plotting to assassinate President Bush. My position? Well, I have a bit of a problem with the government interfering with a private school. What's this about "reviewing textbooks?" As much as I hate the message, we do have this little Constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech to deal with here. It may be pathetic and sad, but it is not illegal to teach hatred. The time to act is when these people either conspire to break the law, or engage in an illegal act. Expose the school and what they're teaching? No problem. Take government action against them? No way.
The results of investigations of the incident are supposed to be announced today. This will detail exactly how in the hell a B-52 bomber was able to fly cross-country with six nuclear warheads strapped to its wings. Today will also tell the fate of at least one colonel and several personnel involved in the incident. The charges the Air Force is considering include dereliction of duty or willful disobedience of an order. Air Force vets say that this was one of the worst breaches in nuclear weapons security in decades. Officials say the incident began when the six armed cruise missiles were mistaken for unarmed missiles. Thus they were sent for decommissioning. This was just the first of many mistakes including allowing the warheads to slip out of Air Force's normal safeguard for more than 36 hours. They also sat on runways at both airbases without special guard. The announcement could be delayed, however, as the Air Force ponders going further up in the food chain ... perhaps even up to some generals for punishment. The Russian president says that he has "grandiose" military plans, including development of a new nuclear weapon. While chastising the US over its foreign policy, Putin managed to slip in his future goals of these nuclear weapons. He says that the Iraq war in a "dead end" and called for a deadline for a troop withdrawal. He also says that Iraq was invaded for oil wealth. Russia says that it will build another nuclear submarine, and it was also planning a "completely new atomic weapon." Putin calls the plans "grandiose" but assures that they are "absolutely realistic." And don't worry, folks. Even though Putin will no longer be president in 2008, he has confirmed that he would campaign for the United Russia party in the parliamentary election. This way he can make sure that all of these plans become reality. Why this saber rattling? Just thinking ... but could it be that Putin is trying to take advantage of the perceived weakness of America .. a weakness that may be the result of the Democrat's white-hot hatred of George Bush? We have a party, the MoveOn Democrat Party, that is more interested in destroying our president than it is in fighting the Islamic threat. Russia is poised to move into the vacuum created by this partisanship. Putin is no fool. He sees Russia as the world's number one military power. History will show that we have the MoveOn Democrats and the moonbat anti-war left to thank for much of this.
Lawmakers, scientists and equality campaigners (equality campaigners?) were outraged by the remarks; remarks which, by the way, can accurately be described as racist. Apparently this wasn't the first time he has stirred the pudding. In 2000 he made a speech at Berkeley discussing his theory that links skin color with sex drive. He argued that increased melanin boost subjects' sex drive, and he explained "That's why you have Latin lovers" and you've never heard of an English lover. Open mouth ... insert foot. Mitt Romney calls the UN out for what it really is: a big fat "failure." Hopefully the message will reach more people this time. Nancy Pelosi is backing down on the Armenian genocide vote. At least for now. She is saying "whether it will come up or not" ... well isn't she the one to decide "whether it will come up or not"? The FCC wants to change its standards making it OK for companies to own both a newspaper and a television or radio station in the same city. Here's a Congressional pork-fest filled with millions for museums, grants to labor unions, "audio visual integration" ... c'mon, folks. The city of Philadelphia has decided that the local Boy Scout chapter must pay the fair-market rent of $200,000 for its city-owned headquarters. This is because it refuses to permit gay Boy Scouts. Well .. it is the city of brotherly love. I know ya'll are real worried about this ... Arkansas lawmakers voted not to ban themselves from chewing tobacco on the chamber floor. John Stossel points out global warming myths. Changing light bulbs isn't going to do the trick but maybe (don't say it!) nuclear energy?? Scientists are saying that Greenland's warmer climate will be good for its economic possibilities and development. Thousands of Kurds are protesting Turkey's vote to take military action in northern Iraq. The city of Chattanooga has scrapped it live Nativity scene during the holidays because people complained. The city says it understands that "diverse cultures are part of the city." According to a new poll conducted by CNN, almost one half of Americans in this country think that we are currently in a recession, Emergency services in Great Britain are training with the world's largest dummy, which takes six people to lift and weighs almost 400 lbs. This is in anticipation of reports that half of Britain will be obese in 25 years. What are the most popular words "googled" on the Internet? How about "sex," "burrito" or maybe "jihad"? Find out which countries are looking up which words. A new study shows that shorter people are more likely to live unhealthy lives. | |||
