The Georgia Radio Hall of Fame held its inaugural dinner this past Saturday night at the Marietta Conference Center. Twelve living radio personalities were inducted, and I'm honored to have been one of them. There were quite a few friends on the list, including my pal Clark Howard and Ludlow Porch. I'm sorry that I was unable to attend the dinner ... a previous commitment to deliver a speech in San Antonio got in the way. I certainly would have liked to spend the evening hanging out with that crowd and going over some old memories ... some of which cannot be mentioned here or on the air.
So, there you have Dean John Coatsworth of Columbia University was on Fox News late last week telling the world that Hitler would be invited to speak at Columbia, were he available. Wonderful. But how do you square this against the decision by Columbia to un-invite the founder of the Minutemen? How do you square this with Columbia's refusal to allow the ROTC on campus? Hitler is OK, but a man who founded a group to monitor illegal activity along our borders is not? Hitler is fine, but young men training to be officers in our armed forces are not? Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad is looking forward to providing Americans with "correct and clear information" about the world and what it thinks of America. There aren't many details right now, but there are media reports that some of the 9-11 families are going to meet with Ahmadinejad while he's in New York. The particular 9-11 families he is supposed to meet with are described as "critics of the Bush administration." We know that the Democrat Party found a few 9-11 widows that they've been using to attack Bush for some time now. Could it be that someone in the MoveOn Democrat party offered to make these women available to Ahmadinejad for a little photo opportunity? I really am curious as to just how this meeting is being set up. Hey! Maybe he can meet with Alex Jones while he's here!
He has proposed that the United Nations move its headquarters from New York to Geneva. Now that, my friends, is a wonderful idea. Let's see if we can get that done.
Politicians and our media constantly reinforce the idea that rich people are evil, dirty, nasty, crude, dishonest ... you name it. You don't think the term "filthy rich" has anything to do with whether or not someone washes their hands, do you? The term "filthy rich" is intended to send the message that high achievers are dirty just by virtue of the fact that they have earned a lot of money. Actually ... you're more likely to find unkempt and dirty people at the lower end of the income scale; but you sure aren't going to hear anyone refer to the "dirty poor" are you? Barack Obama's great idea for saving Social Security? Easy ... eliminate the earnings cap. Just go ahead and tax every penny someone makes - no matter how much that is - at the full Social Security rate. wants to impose a 12.4% tax on all income above $97,000 per year. He says that by taxing the rich we can eliminate the entire Social Security shortfall. One thing you could say for Obama's idea: It would expose Social Security once and for all as nothing less than a grandiose income redistribution scheme. You take from those who are working, and give to those who are not. Robert Bixby is the executive director of the Concord Coalition, a non-partisan group advocating a balanced budget. He says that this would be a radical change from how Social Security was originally designed, because "it would end the contributory idea of Social Security, where you get back something for what you put in." So far Hillary Clinton has dodged this bullet by not providing a solution. But Hillary did point out the fact that we are missing a lot of value money to tax! She points to Warren Buffet, reminding us of his famous liberal dogma, 'Look, tax me because I'm a patriotic American and I want to make sure our country stays strong and is fair.'"
Here are a few things to think about. Tourists. When the come to this country and spend their billions of dollars on everything from ash trays to second homes, do they pay any Social Security tax? No, not a penny. But under the FairTax every dollar a tourist spends on a hotel room in New York or a ticket at Disney World would see 23% sent to the federal government. Ditto for the underground economy and the money spent by our wonderful, hard-working illegal aliens. Just how much do you think they're paying into Social Security now? More about this in the new FairTax book, coming soon to a book store near you. New York's Eliot Spitzer has officially declared his state a sanctuary for more than half a million illegal aliens. The state of New York will no longer require you to show proof of citizenship to get a driver's license. The Department of Motor Vehicles will now accept foreign passports and birth certificates as valid forms of ID. No need for a Social Security card to prove you are a citizen. Spitzer says that we are changing this policy to get more people out of the shadows! Meanwhile, he points out that current "unlicensed drivers" are five times more likely to get into accidents. Time for the congress to move to cut off all highway and law enforcement funds to New York, or at least a good portion of them, until New York decides that the rule of law is important and decides to help, rather than hinder our immigration enforcement actions. Yeah, like that's going to happen.
The DNC gave the state party until this past Saturday to come up with an alternative plan. Clearly, that did not happen. Florida is determined to be a key swing state in determining the Democratic nominee. Who knows if the DNC will actually follow through with its threat to forbid Florida's 210 delegates from voting. But think about this .... The Democrat Party really raised some kind of a fuss in 2000 when they started screaming about those evil Republicans trying to suppress the votes of all of those pitiful Florida Democrats. Now these very same Democrats are saying that Florida Democrats may not get to have a choice in choosing their next presidential candidate? I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but does anyone see a bit of hypocrisy here? Now hold on a minute here! Didn't I read just last week that oil reached a record price? Somewhere over $81 a barrel? And just this morning I'm reading that gas prices are dropping? Hmmmm ... let's see. Summer is over. School has started. The vacation travel season is done. Demand for gasoline is down. Refineries are operating at full tilt. Maybe there is something to this supply and demand stuff after all! REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Is this woman the redneck Rachel Ray? Check out what she's cooking up. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Dick Morris tackles Hillarycare, discussing her definition of "Americans" and who exactly would be covered. Remember, when Hillary gets her fascist health care plan, rationing of health care in the U.S. is inevitable. It's a political war to gain control of your health care ... and the Democrats are using every weapon they have, including your children. Now here's what Mark Steyn has to say about Hillarycare ... and who exactly are these 'uninsured Americans.' Of these 45 million, 9 million aren't American, 9 million are insured, 18 million are young and healthy, and 9 million can afford to pay out of pocket. Newt Gingrich says that Democrat and Republican candidates are failing their parties and their voters. The real divide is between the tax-paying Americans and the government system in Washington that is out of touch with its constituents. Polls in key Democratic swing districts show that Rudy Giuliani is more popular than Obama or Clinton. Do you remember NASA scientist James Hansen? This article questions how he could warn about the approaching ice age and just decades later preach the perils of global warming. I guess you just go along with the fad du jour .. and the money keeps coming in. The lawyer for the MIT student who walked into Logan airport wearing a circuit board says that law enforcement officials were "off base" and "almost paranoid." Off base? That is one strange MIT student we're talking about here. France's President Sarkozy has put quotas on the number of illegal immigrants he wants deported by the end of the year. He wants immigration legislation to require immigrants to speak French and grasp French values. Damn ... am I on the verge of liking the French here? Twenty percent of Switzerland's population is made up of foreigners (I assume they mean illegal immigrants). But a new website is going to allow these 'foreigners' to vote online in the next parliamentary elections, even though they technically don't have voting rights. A Mexican Consul General is accusing Irving city officials of racial profiling because of increased arrests and deportations of illegal Mexicans. How infantile. There's just no other word for it ... infantile. This is a fascinating interview with Investigative Project on Terrorism executive director Steven Emerson on how politically correct US government officials are enabling radical Islam by legitimizing Muslim front groups. An independent radio station in Somalia was attacked by its own transitional government ... making it the second most dangerous place for journalists. An Illinois court has upheld a law banning the sale of horse meat for human consumption. Now a plant in Indiana that processes horse meat will have to shut down. Look, it's a free country. If you want to eat horse meat, what's the big problem? We eat a lot worse. City officials want to spend $200 million to fix New York's Coney Island Boardwalk? Do you know what you could do with $200 million?? Not to mention that they only have a parks department budget of $1.5 million annually. Hmmmmm. I wonder if there are any bridges that need inspection and repair. Might that not be a better way to spend $200 million? In Australia they want to make it illegal to prevent a woman from breast feeding in public, because this would be discrimination. This also includes the workplace. I've thought long and hard about this ... and figured out that I don't have a problem with it. A trash vortex the size of Texas floats out in the Pacific Ocean. The Critic is a short film Mel Brooks made in 1963. An old man heckles animation he doesn't understand. "Dilbert" creator Scott Adams' thoughts on Ahmadinejad. Warning, strong language. | |||||
