He says that it is the number one job as president to shine a light on behavior that is less than exemplary. Apparently these CEO packages are the case. McCain's top advisor said that McCain wants to see shareholders and boards of directors take the initiative to make these packages reasonable and in line with performance. Hey, at least he isn't calling on the government to limit these packages, or to tax the hell out of them (even more). McCain is apparently upset that CEOs are still getting these huge packages during a time when some middle and lower-income families unable to pay their mortgages. Well .. you gotta admit, it does look bad. On Saturday, McCain said, "I think it is unconscionable when the guy who is the head of Countrywide and his co-conspirators make huge amounts of money when Americans face the threat of losing their homes ... If there are ways we can motivate shareholders and boards of directors to punish these people we should do it ... If there are ways we can prevent this from happening again, we should exercise those options." This is the McCain that many conservatives are afraid of. He's pandering to wealth envy here. Executive compensation isn't a matter for government review. But ... you go to where the votes are, I guess ... and there are many votes lurking behind the shadows of wealth envy. Don't get me wrong. I think some of these pay packages are a bit much ... but it is not a matter for government to address. Let the owners of these corporations, the shareholders, take care of the matter themselves. They can either change the leadership of their companies, or they can sell their interests and go somewhere else. They climbed onto the Golden Gate bridge and hung a sign which said "One world, one dream; Free Tibet." OK .. so we can certainly sympathize with those who want to see Tibet free from Chinese domination .. but what's this "one world, one dream" stuff? If these people think that a free Tibet is the world's dream ... well let's just say it would be hard to measure the depths of their delusion.
Apparently Gale Elementary School teacher Anne Lee has been making her students recite the pledge in three different languages ... English, Spanish and American Sign Language. She says that it is a learning exercise. OK ... ready for my take? [Putting on my Libertarian hat]. I don't think that government schools should hold ceremonies at the beginning of every day during which the poor children who are forced to attend must pledge allegiance to the very government that is indoctrinating them into the ways of anti-reason, anti-individualism and big government. If the teacher wants to introduce the Spanish-speaking students to something unique and meaningful, how about reading the Declaration of Independence to them in Spanish every once in a while. OK .. that ought to create a bit of hate mail. Having accomplished what I set out to do here, let's move on to ............... Here's what the teachers union in Nevada is up to lately. The union won a ruling to put a proposed gaming tax on the ballot in November. The petition increased the state's gaming tax by 3% for the largest casinos ... the casinos that earn more than $1 million a month. The teachers unions then want to take this money (earned by private businesses) and have the government give the money to government education. This means that the total gross revenue fee for these larger resorts would be 9.75%. We are being led to believe that by taking another one percent from the casinos and eventually adding tem to teacher's salaries we're going to vastly improve the education of children in Nevada. Oh sure .. that's exactly how it will work out. All it takes to improve education is to throw more money to it. That's why the government schools in Washington DC, where they spend $25,000 per year per student, are doing such a fantastic job. How about another interesting little twist here. The teacher's unions also want a little legal proposition that would prohibit the Nevada legislature from considering the new money from the casinos in future budgets for education. Once the money is handed over by the casinos .. you have to pretend it doesn't exist.
And why do liberals hate guns so? That would be because guns are an ultimate symbol of self reliance. A private citizen with a gun is making a statement: "I am an individual who is primarily responsible for my own safety and the safety of my family." Fool. Doesn't he realize that it is the government, not he, that is responsible for his safety? Doesn't he realize that the government exists to take care of his every need, including the need for protection from predators? How DARE him show self reliance when he has a nanny government standing by to tuck him into bed every night? Just who the hell does he think he is? An individual? Liberals aren't fond of individualism, you know. In Great Britain, two men have created a simulation war game called Zulu 1 Tactical Airsoft Simulations. They say it is similar to paintballing. But Muslim leaders are upset with the new game because teams of soldiers shoot at enemies ... which are dressed as Arabs. Apparently soldiers shoot at opponents wearing shemaghs, which is the traditional headdress of Arab men. The founders say that using the Arab headdress is not racist, but it is the "easiest way to tell who the enemy are." Participants use replica machine guns, pistols and sniper rifles, which fire BB rounds. The Muslim Association of Britain says the scheme is "short-sighted and foolish." They say that any game that associates guns and violence with a particular culture is wrong. Not to mention, "young people show not be given the opportunity to play in an environment where guns are being glamorized." The battles begin in May, and 40 people have already signed up for the opening day. Me? Hell .. I think it is good practice. When you consider that in almost every shooting war in the world .. and there are about 130 of them ... you will find Muslims on one side or the other. When the Muslim world calms down and stops the killing maybe we'll stop printing targets with turbans. OK .. a bit of personal pride here. I've been advertising in the Atlanta area for AirTran Airways for many years. In the next ratings for airline quality AirTran came out as number one. I'm a big proponent of AirTran Airways --- and when I can't take my little bitty airplane on a trip I default to this fine airline. So .. to the men and women of AirTran, I want to say thank you for making me look good. REDNECK SCRAP BOOK You might just be a redneck if your yearbook photo looks like this. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS My how the mighty have fallen. CBS is talking about outsourcing some of its news operation to CNN. I wonder how Walter Cronkite feels about this. Did you know that the war in Iraq is causing "economic pain" at home? That's according to Nancy Pelosi. Democrats want to find something to blame for our economy, and the war in Iraq is their easiest target. Let the Islamic goons launch another attack on our country and you're really going to see some economic pain. Here's a look at Hillary Clinton vs. Michelle Obama ... yes I know they are both women. Now call me a sexist. Another one of those stories where men think they're going to a house to have sex with a minor, only to find out they're about to be nailed by the police. Notice, please, how many of these men are apparently Muslims. Well .. they come by it honestly Ever read the history of Mohammed? These eight teenagers, six of them girls, brutally beat another girl so that they can have a cool video to post on You Tube. Hey, they got their wish...the video is on YouTube. Now all are charged with felonies. Let's see how many of them actually get some jail time. I would guess that all of them will have a rough time getting into college ... and that's a good thing. When do we hear about the suspensions? OK .. now we have a case of the bird flu transmitted from human to human. We won't worry, however, until it affects American Idle. Speaking of Hillary being a woman ... looks like she played the gender card again on the Ellen Degeneres Show. All of those boys made her so tough. Obama is now trying to reaffirm the fact that he is patriotic. Patriotism isn't something you claim. It's something you show. More details on Barack Obama ads in Pennsylvania where you get only half the truth. Barack claims he refuses all contributions from Washington lobbyists. Hint: Not all lobbyists are in Washington. Now we are discovering that Hillary may have been pressured by her union supporters to fire Mark Penn. Put a Democrat in the White house with a filibuster-proof Senate and you're going to seem some real heavy-handedness from the unions. There's lots of theories being thrown around about what Hillary will do when she loses the Democrat nomination. One of them ... Senate majority leader? San Francisco is preparing what it calls its "security blanket" for the Olympic torch relay, which will pass through the city this Wednesday. The global warmers aren't going to go down without a fight. Remember this headline from last week ... "Global Temperatures 'To Decrease'"? It looks like climate activists were trying to convince the BBC to change it. Truth is an enemy to the global warming moonbats. I'm shocked that CBS would actually run a story on John Murtha's earmarks ... of course they fail to label him as a Democrat. I know that all of you are very concerned how the presidential candidates fall on the green scale. A smoker in New York City was sued by her neighbors for smoking in her own apartment. The neighbors? Lawyers. Great Britain has had to ban obese children from riding donkeys because it is animal cruelty. Canada has one of the worst organ donation rates in the world ... and they blame on the fact that organ donation is a morbid topic and Canadians don't like talking about death. Here's a story about an American soldier in Iraq who befriended an Iraqi man and his son, who has a life threatening heart problem. Now thanks to the help of the Marine, the boy may live. What's the worst bad name you could think of? Try one woman who lives with the name ... Iona Knipl. Isn't getting a 8-year-old girl a bikini wax bordering on child abuse? | ||||
