So ... did you enjoy all of the work in preparing your tax return this year? Do you think everything is just hunky dory with your return? Now that you've filed the return, do you think that there's any chance the IRS is going to send you a letter a few months down the road informing you that you are going to be audited? Isn't this all such grand fun? As I've done every tax day for decades .. here are a few little tests to try on some of your coworkers. First .. you can ask them how much they had to pay in taxes this year. Sadly, more often than not you're going to get a response to the effect that "I didn't have to pay anything, I'm getting some back." That's the nature of our present tax system. People don't even have a clear idea of just how much income taxes they paid. Your second task is to find out if your coworker actually knows how much they earn? Go ahead, ask them. They'll probably tell you that it is none of your business. Press the issue ... tell them there is a specific reason you're asking the question. You want to see if they really know ho much they make. If they finally cough up the information it will probably be a statement much like "Well, I take home $xxxx a week." Take home. Isn't that wonderful? Thanks to withholding people don't even know what they earn!
Just think about what you've been going through the past few weeks .. and think about what the IRS can do to you if you win the audit lottery. These people have all the power. You have virtually none. This balance of power can be shifted ... but you need to get out there and fight for change.
Just who do you think is more likely to file a fraudulent tax return today? Hint: It won't be the evil rich person that so many Americans have been taught to hate. No ... the people most likely to file a fraudulent tax return today will be middle and lower income single parents and couples with children trying to qualify for an income redistribution program known as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC is what we call a "refundable" tax credit. In other words, if your credit exceeds the actual amount you own in income taxes, the government actually gives you a check for the difference. In other words, not only do you not pay one cent in federal income taxes, but you get a check funded by the taxes paid by others. Once your earned income exceeds $37,783 (for 2007) the "credit" disappears. So today tens of thousands - perhaps hundreds of thousands of dishonest tax returns will be filed so that people can get their hands on someone else's money In a report from the General Accounting Office to congress in 2005 it was estimated that $2 billion is paid to people who misrepresent their income, another $2 billion is paid to people who lie about their marital status, and another $3 billion to people who falsely claim to meet residency or relationship requirements. So, how about that? The Sainted poor cheating on their income taxes? Say it ain't so!
Now let's see here. Barack Obama says that people turn to religion when they're bitter. Karl Marx said that religion is the opiate of the masses. Do you see any vague similarity between the two comments? Obama, you will remember, was very fond of Marxist professors and student groups during his college years. Just a thought. Teenager walks into store and starts shoplifting. Owner discovers teen and confronts him. Finally ends up hitting young criminal in the head with a hammer. Store owner is charged with felony assault. Local CBS affiliate says the store owner "took the law into his own hands." What in the hell is this "takes the law into his own hands" stuff? If the law isn't in our hands, then who's hands is it in? We are the sovereigns here .. not the government. We hire the government to help police our laws. The law belongs to us .. not to the government. The right to self defense and the right to protect our property rests in us, not the government. When we protect ourselves or our property we are only doing what the agencies that we have formed have failed to do. Just remember these words of immense wisdom the next time someone pulls that "takes the law into his own hands" crap on you.
The solution? McCain indicates that there has to be some sort of modification of this greedy behavior. Modification? What kind of modification? I guess that will depend on how Mr. McCain defines "greed." The modification would probably end up being more of the same ... more government regulation. More government involvement in the free market. And don't bother trying to email me with definitions of "greed." They don't work. Every one ever sent to me can be easily knocked down. "Greed" is simply a took in the rhetorical quiver of class warfare. The merger between Delta Airlines and Northwest has now been announced. The merger is considered essential to the financial survival of both airlines. OK ... now watch the pilot's unions do everything they can to screw this up. The Center for Responsive Politics says that Obama is getting a lot of money from people representing lawyers and law firms, security firms, real estate and Hollywood. And when it comes to lobbyists -- state lobbyists, non-wage-earning spouses of lobbyists, and lobbying firm employees -- have contributed $115,163 to Obama's campaign. He's also received $528,765 from people in the pharmaceutical and health industry. This is on top of the money from oil company executives and their spouses, as well as bundled contributions from nuclear power and utility executives. Every politician does it, but why does Barack Obama insist that his campaign is different? Why is he trying to convince you, the ignorant voter, that he is running a "clean" campaign ... because in this day in age, you can easily track any donor. Speaking of Barack Obama donations ... the co-founder of Code Pink has bundled more than $50,000 in donations for Barack Obama. Jodie Evans is a Code Pink leader who has gathered the money from friends and associates. Jodie and her son have also given the maximum individual allowable donation to the Obama campaign. Jodie, by the way, gets her money from a divorce from a computer business billionaire. To put it bluntly ... she's a leftist moonbat. Well ... that does fit in so well with the Obama campaign.
With this in mind, the Foundation is offering a student carbon calculator
that students can access online. The calculator will help students figure out
how much CO2 they emit in the following ways: travel, what you eat, home, what
you use, and what you throw away. Me? What about my carbon footprint? Glad you asked. I can promise you I'm doing everything I can to make it as large as possible ... knowing, as I do, that there will be no resultant negative effects. Baltimore, Maryland does not have a mayor. The reason may shock you ... government bureaucrats are all about power, and they will abuse government to maintain that power. Sheila Dixon was elected mayor. But in last year's primary, she ran against a man named Frank Conaway. Frank lost. But he still remains the Circuit Court Clerk. So when it came time for Dixon to be sworn in as mayor, she chose to be sworn in by Governor O'Malley rather than Conway, the Circuit Court Clerk. This is, apparently, against tradition. Now not only did Frank lost the primary, but he has been snubbed to administer the oath of office. So Frank, as the Circuit Court Clerk, decides that he isn't going to provide the proper documents for the ceremony. So the city went along with the ceremony without the paperwork. Well, It was only a matter of time before this government tripped over its own red tape. Because no one bothered to get a Certificate of Incumbency for Sheila Dixon, the City cannot issue any bonds because Dixon cannot prove that she is in fact the mayor. Meanwhile, Frank refuses to sign and seal the proper documents unless he gets to swear in Dixon herself. Gotta love it. READING ASSIGNMENTS Here's an update on where Hillary and Obama stand in the North Carolina polls ... Obama is leading Hillary 45% to 27%. Poor poor pitiful Hilary. From the Wall Street Journal. The more we see of Barack Obama, the more we see of his flaws --- and there are plenty. The chairman of the Associated Press accidentally said "Obama bin Laden" to Barack Obama's face! Ouch. In a survey of professional historians, 98% currently believe the Bush presidency to be a failure because of invading Iraq, "tax breaks for the rich," and alienating nations around the world. The evil rich, by the way, are paying a higher share of their income taxes now than under Clinton. These professional historians? Working in colleges and universities no doubt. President Bush is apparently concerned about the growing global food crisis and wants to know how the US can help redistribute its wealth "to help those that are in need." Killing the ethanol subsidies would be a good start. Last week we told you about Annette Kesting, the first black woman to be elected to the Cobb County (Georgia) Commission. Apparently she made a speech to a church group during which she talked about the evil white women she had to work with. Well, Ms. Kesting held a press conference last Friday. Just take a look .. but be sitting down. This must be a conspiracy of the Bush administration ... fewer large corporations are being audited by the IRS. It should make you feel real good to know that eight out of 10 Arabs have an unfavorable view of the United States. You should see how Americans feel about Arabs. Thanks to a rational caller yesterday, DK, I am beginning to do some research on this North American Union. Cubans are lining up around the block to sign up for cell phone service for the first time. The problem: a cell phone plan costs half a year's wages on the average state salary. Illegal aliens are getting liver transplants ... paid for entirely by US tax payers. And the hospitals know that they are illegal. How would you feel if it took your doctor 23 months to figure out that you had cancer ... that is one of the many reasons you should be excited to have universal healthcare in the this country. Some more daily oink reports to make you feel real good on tax day, knowing that your tax dollars are going toward lousy government projects. Times must be pretty tough in Florida. They are getting so desperate for money that one lawmaker is actually proposing selling off state owned Spanish treasure. Muslims want to use the Canadian Human Right Commission to challenge what is published in magazines. Luckily, someone in Canada finally had the brains to realize this was a stupid idea. When a Scottish landowner decided that he was going to create Europe's first wilderness reserve, it took no time before the EU came up with a list of regulations, which includes making it illegal for this 50,000 acre to allow prey and predator to roam together. A judge in New York is suing the city for $1 million after he slipped and fell in his own courthouse. There has been so much snow in Yellowstone that the bulldozers are actually breaking while trying to move it out of the way. Must be all that global warming. Today's timewaster: Mad fold-ins, past & present. | ||||
