| Friday, August 15, 2008 So Hillary Clinton will get her way ... sort of. She wanted a roll call vote at the Democrat convention and she got one. Now her "historic achievement" will be acknowledged. Wouldn't it be fun ... I mean I know it's impossible ... but wouldn't it make for great talk radio if Hillary actually made a run on Obama? A lot of people are getting a bit weary of The Chosen One. There's some buyer's remorse out there, perhaps not enough, but some. This week was very telling. Putin starts his program of Russian expansionism, John McCain identifies the culprit immediately and calls him out - while Obama pulls his "why can't y'all just get along" routine and gums both sides until he figures out that there is a clear victim and a clear culprit. Come on .. how about a little excitement in Denver!
Have you seen the video of the TV reporter in Georgia who is shot at while on camera? The woman is giving a news report and sniper fire grazes her arm. And the amazing part is ... she keeps reporting.
John McCain and Barack Obama both have their latest form of campaigning: children's books. Both candidates have bedtime stories for all the little children. However, there is just a slight difference between the two books. At least, that I can tell thus far.
Here's another quote for you: "Barack smiled, tears rolling down his cheeks. Suddenly he knew for certain hope would last long enough for him to make a difference." Oh my ... I'm tearing up here. And if that wasn't enough for you, here is the official description of Barack Obama's children's book:
There's your Messiah, folks ... for all the children to behold. Now actually ... there's a children's book that has been out there for some time that really fits the big BO quite well. It's called "The Rainbow Fish," and the general theme of this book is that nobody should be allowed to have anything that other people don't have. Everybody should have the same amount of stuff. That seems to fit Obama's ideology pretty well.
FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell recently stated that the Fairness Doctrine could also apply to the Internet. What's even sadder is the opinion of the American people. A recent Rasmussen poll shows that 47% of Americans believe that the government should require all radio and TV stations to offer equal time to both sides. That's almost half of the people in this country want to make sure that I can't flap my gums all day about Barack Obama without being forced by the government to provide equal time to Obama sycophants. But when it comes to the Internet, 57% of Americans say that the government should not require websites and blogs to be beholden to the Fairness Doctrine. My question is ... what's the difference? These are simply different forms of communication ... why are people more inclined to shut down talk radio than they are their favorite blog or website? That would be because only about 17% of Americans are daily listeners to talk radio .. .while a much higher percentage fool around with the internet from time to time. For those 83% who have no real personal experience with talk radio, they readily buy into the left's description of talk radio as "right wing hate radio" and, consequently, they buy into the government regulation argument. I keep telling you that the so-called American love of freedom is pretty much a fraud. Perhaps now you're more willing to give that thought some attention. Well it looks like Nancy Pelosi's small fortune in wind energy may be out the window. People are already complaining that wind farms are affecting their health. New research is showing that the low frequency noise and vibrations from wind turbines can have an effect on the inner ear, triggering headaches; difficulty sleeping; tinnitus, or ringing in the ears; learning and mood disorders; panic attacks; irritability; disruption of equilibrium, concentration and memory; and childhood behavior problems. No ... not making this up. Oh, and don't forget - just last week I told you about some clown out there who says that these wind farms are going to use up all the wind and change our climate. We never get tired of witnessing the miracles of government education, do we? I'm not buying it. I still like Royal's idea the best ... if these wind farms are also said to have an effect on the weather, why can't we use them to deter tornadoes or even hurricanes? Just build a bunch of wind farms off the coast of Florida and push all the hurricanes ... wait, did I just suggest building something off the coast for Florida? Never mind. Stop the presses ... an Israeli doctor thinks that he has found a way to disqualify Michael Phelps from the Olympics for doping. Seriously! Dr. Alexei Koudinov can't stand the fact that Michael Phelps is the most decorated athlete in Olympic history ... so he is working hard to make sure that's no longer the case. Dr. Alexei Koudinov explains that Michael Phelps is doping because .... he listens to his iPod before he swims. Yep, that's it. Scientific evidence proves that listening to music improves blood oxygen capacity and is a performance enhancement, according to Dr. Koudinov. Never mind the 5 hours a day that Phelps spends practicing, or the weight training, or the fact that he is naturally gifted ... nope. It's all because of his iPod. Gawd, Apple really needs to get on that endorsement. In the midst of this campaign the FairTax isn't exactly dominating the news, though there are plenty of reasons - the economy for one - why it should be. Polls show that the economy if the number one concern of most Americans. The problem here is that these Americans spend too much time whining and waiting for the government to do something for them, and not enough time trying to understand what is wrong and what can be done to make things better. OK .. just for starters: The is about $13 trillion in dollar-denominated deposits belonging to Americans and American businesses working overseas - offshore - helping to shore up other economies. Why? Because to bring those dollars home would be to subject them to our onerous tax system. So, what could happen if this $13 trillion could come home with no tax consequences? Bush throws us a $150 billion economic stimulus plan and it has some effect. Think what $13 trillion would do. Now .. why bring this up? Just to show you that the subject is out there and some people running for congress are paying attention and giving their constituents a chance to speak out. Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite is hosting a town hall meeting next Wednesday in Sarasota, Florida to discuss the FairTax. The meeting will be at the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church at 2348 Collier Parkway - just in case you happen to be in the area and would like to get your two cents in.
Broadcasting from the Everglades today ... and because I didn't like all of the nympho-cumulus clouds over Florida I decided to hitch a ride on AirTran. I made a few observational notes while waiting for my flight: The Hartsfield TSA folks seem to be a pretty good group. One problem. With my new knee I have to get a pat-down every single time I go through security. I demand a woman. My demands are not being heeded. Sitting there and watching the people marching up and down the concourse my thoughts on fat women were reinforced. If you are at least 150 pounds overweight ... and if the casual observer can't tell your ankles from your calves ... a tattoo on the side of your ankle will do the trick. A good-sized tat actually makes it look like you weigh at least 100 pounds less. There cannot possibly be a more pathetic looking group of people than those sick fools sitting in the Hartsfield smoker's aquariums. I like to stand outside the glass and watch them engaging in their acts of self-hatred. During the boarding process why in the world can't people get their butts out of the aisle once they've reached their seat? And why can't the flight attendants just say "Hey you, back there around row 15, get out of the way and let these people by!" And one more plug for children in the back of the airplane. I know, it's not the child's fault ... it is bad parenting, but the results are the same and I don't want the back of my seat kicked all the way to the Everglades. Oh .. and too many kids wearing Crocs. You can almost hear the toes crunching. NEWS/TALK 750 WSB CARE-A-THON AUCTION: 2009 CORVETTE AUCTION
The 8th annual News/Talk 750 WSB Care-A-Thon benefiting the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is coming up August 21-22, 2008. The great folks at Jim Ellis Chevrolet as been gracious enough to give us their first 2009 Corvette ZR1 to auction off for the Care-A-Thon. Bidding is now open and will be open until the final day of the Care-A-Thon on August 22, 2008. REDNECK SCRAP BOOK A listener sent in this amazing example of Redneck Hauling. Ew. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Ticking off Russia even more, the United States and Poland have reached an agreement on the missile defense system. Negotiation ploy? I'm already getting really sick and tired of these columnists who wish to blame the United States for the conflict between Georgia and Russia. Then again, we all know that as long as George Bush is president the United States is the true source of all misery and evil in the world ... right? Somebody at the American Thinker has been doing a great job of tracking foreign campaign donations to the Barack Obama campaign. The FAA has finally released the details of what happened to a flight carrying Barack Obama where an emergency slide inflated inside the tale of the jet. I guess the report details that at least for a while there were two inflated bags of air inside that aircraft. A listener sent in this little piece of Nuze comparing Al Gore's supposedly eco-friendly home to President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. The Governor of New Jersey is opposed to drilling off of New Jersey's coast because he wants to protect the beaches. Meanwhile, 62% of New Jersey residents favor drilling in protected offshore areas. The truth is the governor opposes drilling because he's a Democrat. We brought you this story a few weeks ago about the soldier who was charged $300 to check his military gear on American Airlines ... due to the outrage, they have since changed the policy for active military personnel on their way to Iraq or anywhere in the US. Why does it take an eruption of public outrage for people to figure things like this out? A teenager in Tennessee is fighting for his "right" to wear Confederate flag paraphernalia to school. "Right?" This is, perhaps, the best news of the day: 85% of flying public wants to see children in a separate section of the plane. The latest Olympics snafu ... how old did you say those Chinese gymnasts are? Here are some pictures so you can judge for yourself. | ||
