One thing I want to point out here ... some Obama supporters in the media are charging that McCain wasn't really held in a "cone of silence" while Obama was being questioned. They're charging that he could hear the questions. Now ask yourself: "Self? Why would Obama supporters be insisting that McCain could hear the questions?" Well, that would be because these supporters must feel that McCain did a better job at responding. Too bad Obama didn't have his teleprompter to help him through this thing. I think that the silliest argument put forth by Democrats in their opposition to exploiting our own oil and natural gas resources is this oft-stated idea that we won't reap any of the benefits for at least ten years ... for that is how long it will take for the first barrel of newly-drilled oil to flow. First .. I'm not buying the ten-year argument. If it was a purely government operation ten years would be about right ... but leave it to the private sector, and make sure the risk-reward equation allowed to operate, and that oil will flow much quicker. But now ... for the sake of argument ... let's go with the ten-year argument. First I'll remind you that in 1996 the Republican controlled congress voted to start drilling for oil in the very portion of ANWR that was set aside for drilling for oil. What happened? Bill Clinton - the Democrat president - vetoed the bill. Now if Clinton had not vetoed this bill that oil would have started flowing when? About two years ago, using that 10-year estimate. Now let's imagine that it is 2018 and our efforts to power cars and industry with windmills and sunlight has proven to be less than a stellar success. The Middle East is running low on oil, and some sort of an Eastern European war has interrupted all supplies from Russia and the Caspian Sea. Suddenly the political class realizes that we need to go on a crash program to go after our domestic oil supplies. Once again someone will be sure to point out that if we had proceeded to drill for oil on the outer continental shelf and off the West coast of Florida in 2008 when the issue was hot, we might not be facing the crisis we're facing. This has long been a failing of America - and I place the blame partly on television. For decades we have been watching television dramas where even the most heinous problems are solved in one hour. The very continued existence of mankind can be threatened .. and the problem will be solved just in time for the top of the hour commercial break. This one-hour mentality gives the Democrats and environmental whack jobs all the leeway they need to start screaming "But --- golly! It will be ten years before we can get that oil!" Hey, folks. That ten years is going to go by anyway. Time doesn't magically stand still while we're making the decision whether or not to wean ourselves from foreign oil. Just another case of the political class exploiting the ignorance of the American public. Unless security procedures change drastically at our airports I will be one of those lucky ones who will get a pat-down (frisking) every time I fly commercial; this thanks to my knee replacement surgery. So ... just a simple question. When I call the spa for a massage appointment I'm asked whether I want a male or a female (except in uptight South Carolina). Why don't I get the same choice at the TSA checkpoint? After all ... I'm laying butt-nekkid on that massage table and I can chose a woman masseuse, but I have to submit to being stroked while fully clothed by some guy just so I can fly? Hey, TSA! Let's get with the program here. I noticed over the last weekend that the idea of putting children in their own special section on commercial flights is actually being discussed out there! Now you parents quit your screaming. This is really your fault, not your child's. If you knew how to control your child's behavior in public this discussion wouldn't be held. As for me .. a special section is only a half-step. I want a soundproof wall.
Well, if you look to government to solve all of your problems; if you're insanely jealous of those who have worked harder and wiser than you, and who consequently have more than you do, and if you think self-reliance is for suckers while there are so many politicians who are eager to pander for your vote ... then maybe the decision is clear after all.
"Big Oil" Sounds pretty menacing, doesn't it. The Democrats have been at work with their focus groups again, and they've learned that people are so angry at what it costs to fill a tank with gas that they react negatively to the "Big Oil" term. Now they're using the phrase relentlessly. They're even using it against a Colorado Republican Senate candidate named Bob Schaffer. Schaffer was in the House, but when he ran he promised the voters he would only serve for three terms. He, unlike so many others, kept his promise and left in 2003. He then went to work for Aspect Energy. Now, because he worked for an energy company, then Democrats call him "Big Oil Bob." Childish ... but with today's voters, effective. The Republicans aren't biting. Before Nancy even delivered her speech, the Republicans had created a document debunking each of Nancy's proposals. Yeah ... let's see how much coverage this gets.
A congresswoman from California by the name of Loretta Sanchez says that as many as half of the Democrats in the House could vote for Hillary at the Democrat National Convention. Sanchez says, "I believe there are a lot of supporters for Hillary among the superdelegates, especially now that they've agreed to place her name in nomination. I think half the House Democrats would probably be Hillary supporters, especially women. ... I felt she was the most experienced and the best candidate and I still feel that way." Sanchez, by the way, finally succeeded in her quest to win a congressional seat back in 1996 after she changed her name and her party. She failed to gain a seat on the Anaheim city council in 1994 as a Republican with the name Loretta Brixey. Another delegate from New York predicts that as much as 40% of the delegates from New York would pick Hillary over Obama. Meanwhile, a Clinton advisor says it is "crazy" to guess, but that Hillary would not get the 1,800 delegates she originally had. There's another school of thought ... some delegates are reluctant to reverse their votes back to Hillary because they are afraid of angering their black constituents. Some House members are upset that Hillary has put them in this position to begin with.
It seems that Barack Obama is slowly getting the message. While he still supports a high tax rate on capital gains taxes and a payroll tax on individual wages above $250,000, recent statements suggest that Obama's plan may become more modest. For example, Obama's massive Social Security payroll tax increase would now not go into effect for ten years .. that would be after Obama leaves office (after two terms). He has also modified his proposal to exempt wages from $102,000 a year to $250,000 from the payroll tax ... which has been nicknamed the "doughnut hole." And although originally planning to subject all income to the 12.4% tax that employees and employers now jointly pay, he now favors a combined rate of 2%-4% on people making more than $250,000. Obama's new motto ... "Whatever works."
In a recent interview with Howard Dean, the chairman of the Democrat party, he referred to the Republican Party as at the "white party." Now tell me again how the Republicans are always playing the race card? Just was the last time you heard John McCain say anything about Barack Obama's race? But think about the last time, or the many times, you have heard Obama himself refer to race. And now you have the chairman of the Democrat Party referring to the Republican party as the "white party." Here's a synopsis of what Dean said:
Do you think that was a mistake? He sure tried to make it sound like one. Mistake my earlobe. It's a message ... a message to all "people of color." What are you doing voting for the white party?
The parents, Dawn and Gregory King, said the government school knew their son had "unique vulnerabilities" and was subject to abuse because of his sexual orientation. However, the fact that their son wore makeup and women's clothing absolutely cannot be blamed on the parent's conscious decision to allow their son to wear such things to school. The blame all rests on the government school for not stopping him. Now you do know, don't you, that if the government school had tried to stop this kid with those "unique vulnerabilities" from cross dressing at school .. the parents would have probably filed a law suit and the ACLU would have been eager to jump into the fray. Unbelievable. NEWS/TALK 750 WSB CARE-A-THON AUCTION: 2009 CORVETTE AUCTION
The 8th annual News/Talk 750 WSB Care-A-Thon benefiting the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is coming up August 21-22, 2008. The great folks at Jim Ellis Chevrolet as been gracious enough to give us their first 2009 Corvette ZR1 to auction off for the Care-A-Thon. Bidding is now open and will be open until the final day of the Care-A-Thon on August 22, 2008. READING ASSIGNMENTS Obama says he wouldn't have appointed Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. That just begs for a comparison of the two ... and The Wall Street Journal has done just that. George Will does a great job of explaining how the conflict between Russia and Georgia could change the American presidential election. Let's hope. From The Politico: McCain reopens the national security gap. Funny, I didn't know it had closed. Barack Obama has won over another voting base ... the disabled. Because Obama is co-sponsoring a bill to give the disabled more of your tax dollars. Frank Rich of the New York Times has declared that the only reason Barack Obama isn't crushing John McCain in the polls is because of racism. This is our future, my friends. Elect The Chosen One and for four years every opponent of any Obama initiative will be a racist. Kobe Bryant in The Wall Street Journal? Kobe wants the world to know that "Our Country is the Best." I'm a new Kobe fan. After Poland agreed to accept a US missile interceptor base, Russia says that Poland is now exposed to the possibility of a nuclear attack. This is Russia threatening a nuclear attack against Poland. A Democrat politician in Utah believes that if Jesus was alive, he would vote for him. This Democrat must have forgotten that some other Democrats have actually opined that Jesus is, in fact, alive .. and running for president. No wonder our government schools are a joke. Take a look at the new grading policy for the Dallas Independent School District. Another story about government schools in Texas ... one school district may allow teachers and staff to carry guns onto school property. Now here is school where there will be no mass shootings. New Jersey may consider repealing its Global Warming Response Act because people are finally realizing that global warming is a scam. Gotta love these stories ... an Ohio man was being robbed at gun point, which promptly changed once he brought out his own handgun. I'm sure this will really get some people worked up. Ellen DeGeneres got married over the weekend. Golly .. you don't suppose she HAD to get married, do you? Canada spent who knows how much in tax dollars to do a study which concluded that teenagers lack judgment when driving. Here's a sad example of the cost of giving teens the keys ... a 16-year-old girl in California died in a fatal car accident after losing control of her car. She had been texting on her cell phone moments before the accident. The British government is actually using tax dollars to launch a campaign to encourage people to exercise while they're waiting for a bus. Also in Great Britain, one town council is going to spend over a million dollars to cut residents' trash bins in half in an attempt for people to throw away less trash. We offer this ingenious use of a "mobility scooter" without comment. I'm sure you'll think of a few of your own. | |||||||||
