| Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Not all that much to Fay. Just a tropical storm when she came ashore a few miles south of Marco Island, Florida. There's still hope, though, for the global warming alarmists ... still time left in the hurricane season. In the meantime, how long has it been since a hurricane hit Florida? Since 2005? That global warming sure is messing things up, isn't it?
Every day it seems we hear endless stories about the mortgage and foreclosure crisis. The MSM just won't give you the whole story. Just a few facts to chew on today as you listen to more foreclosure and bad loan horror stories.
A 55mph limit is a revenue-raising venture. It also costs lives and tens of millions of man hours every year. This waste of man hours creates reductions in creativity. Just what we need with a struggling economy ... attacks on the numbers of hours Americans can spend each day working.
Face it, Obamamaniacs ... your guy just isn't that good at thinking on his feet. McCain showed him up good last Saturday. Now we get this pathetic display from the Dems and the Obama camp. McCain must have cheated. He heard the questions before it was his turn. Why? Because it is so clear that he did a better job of handling those questions than The Chosen One did. That must mean he cheated, because after all Obama is so close to perfect that this just could not happen any other way. This is almost as pathetic as Hillary having a plank inserted into the Democrat platform stating, in effect, that she lost the nomination because of sexism in the media. Oh! You didn't hear about that one? Yup. It's there. Check it out for yourself.
A few points. Those people in Washington are spending my money. I don't spend money to subsidize American companies who can't compete globally - and I don't want my government to spend my money that way either. Get the best deal for the dollar. Simple as that. Oh .. and those jobs that American companies "ship" overseas? Those jobs belong to the companies that created them. They can "ship" them anywhere they want ... and the reason they are going overseas is precisely because of the high tax levels our government subjects them to if they stay here. Back to shipping "our" jobs overseas. Make America a tax haven instead of a tax purgatory for these companies and things might change. I know of a really great plan that will do just that ... it's called the FairTax. When 500 European and Asian companies were asked what they would do if the FairTax was enacted in the United States, 400 of those companies said that they would build their next plant in America. The other 100 companies said that they would move their headquarters to America. The most "American" thing that we could do is to enact the FairTax because it will make our businesses more competitive to the point where we won't have to have stupid government laws forcing ourselves, against the free market system, to buy American. But I guess Barack Obama couldn't fit that into a 30 second radio ad. Barack Obama seemed to completely miss John McCain's humor when answering a question about taxing the evil rich at the Saddleback forum. Rick Warren wanted to know a specific number that defines you as "rich." This is the number where you start to feel the arrows of wealth envy. This is the number where the government is justified in taking your money and distributing it to others because they need their "fair share." Here was John McCain's response: "How about $5 million? No, but seriously, I don't think you can, I don't think seriously that the point is I'm trying to make, seriously, and I'm sure that comment will be distorted but the point is...that we want to keep people's taxes low, and increase revenues. ... So, it doesn't matter really what my definition of rich is because I don't want to raise anybody's taxes. I really don't." Barack didn't seem to get the point and has already jumped on McCain's comment as "reflecting in his policies." That's because Barack Obama can run a pretty solid campaign on the sole subject of wealth envy. It's a pretty good pandering point, don't ya think? Stanley Kurtz of the National Review is attempting to get his hands on documents housed at the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago, which would provide insight into Obama's personal, financial, and ideological ties with Bill Ayers. These documents would be about Obama's service as the chairman of the board for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation where Ayers was a founder and guiding force. Suddenly, Kurtz has been denied access to the files my library officials. Conspiracy? We'll see.
Johnny Arthurs and his neighbors raised $900 and went out and bought some 12-foot speed bumps from Costco. They cut the speed bumps in half and proceeded to place eight of them along their street. The neighbors claim that within week, drivers started to slow down. That was until the Seattle Department of Transportation caught wind of the
situation and removed the speed bumps. The government officials said that the
bumps had been illegally installed without their approval. After a back and forth battle with the SDOT, the city allocated $15,000 to the neighborhood to be used to traffic signs. Why not let the taxpayers keep their $15,000 and let the residents keep their $900 speed bumps? Apparently that would be too logical for government. Now ... another point about speed bumps. You may think that they're great because they slow down traffic ... and they do. You also need to know that cops don't particularly like to patrol streets with speed bumps ... so look for lower speeds, and less law enforcement. NEWS/TALK 750 WSB CARE-A-THON AUCTION: 2009 CORVETTE AUCTION
The 8th annual News/Talk 750 WSB Care-A-Thon benefiting the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is coming up August 21-22, 2008. The great folks at Jim Ellis Chevrolet as been gracious enough to give us their first 2009 Corvette ZR1 to auction off for the Care-A-Thon. Bidding is now open and will be open until the final day of the Care-A-Thon on August 22, 2008. Or just make a donation to Care-A-Thon here. READING ASSIGNMENTS In case you missed it yesterday, Nancy Pelosi has declared Barack Obama to be "a leader that God has blessed us with at this time." Hence: "The Chosen One." Looks like the Republican National Convention is doing all it can to "go green" as well. John McCain's campaign manager has asked to meet with the president of NBC News to protest the networks abandonment of "non-partisan coverage of the presidential race." This story is still floating around out there ... homeless people seem really excited to vote for Barack Obama. Well why not? Isn't he going to take from the rich and give to the useless? The New Republic believes that Barack Obama is acting too cool, and this is hurting his chances. Iran has launched a test rocket into space that is meant to carry a "research" satellite. Remember that promise for earmark transparency? How about $290 million more in earmarks this year than last year. That's 200 more projects than were requested last year. This is for all you NIMBYs out there ... residents in one town protested the building of a Wal-Mart to the point where the plans finally fell through. Now instead of the Wal-Mart they got a noisy recycling plant, which they hate even more. Gotta love it. You know you are a nation of blubberbutts when you have to appoint a doctor that is solely dedicated to treating obese children. You can't make up these kinds of headlines: Missing 135-foot wind turbine may not have been stolen. How does someone steal a wind turbine, and go unnoticed? There is apparently a corrupt wind farm industry erupting in New York. Somebody actually conducted a survey of bartenders to break down the differences between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to their drink selection and bar behavior. Sounds like some politician in Italy is getting a little power-happy ... it is now illegal to build sandcastles on the beaches near Venice. Someone in Roanoke, Virginia decided to take an unauthorized spin in their Cessna 172 ... police evacuated the local mall until the plane landed. The sky is falling! | ||
