California Democrat Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez has promised to be with us this morning. My bet is on no-show. We'll see. Heard indirectly from pollster and political analyst Matt Towery. He is telling folks that something unprecedented is happening even as we speak ... The opposition candidate is gaining in the polls while the Democrats are holding their convention. This would mean that the Democrats are failing to impress. Towery also reportedly feels that more and more Democrats are starting to feel the pangs of buyer's remorse. Hillary's speech last night was more about her than about Obama. She did the required "let's support Barack Obama" stuff ... but what she really accomplished was to show many of the delegates and much of America that she should have been Obama's veep candidate ... if not THE candidate. I feel much more confident (if that's the word) about November with Biden on the ticket.
Tom Houck is here. Someone get the check. Royal just got back from the convention floor. He has a bag full of Hillary and Obama placards. Keep your eye on eBay. Odd convention schedule. Yesterday was Hillary day. Today is Bill day. Who's the candidate again? Only one line in Hillary's speech about the Iraq war ... and that brought minimal applause.
Moving right along ... so this ad ran on about 150 local stations, and the disciples of the Chosen One have thrown a fit. So has the Obama campaign. In fact, Obama launched his own response ad. Fine. But the Obama campaign also tried to block the ads from being aired by warning station managers and asking the Justice Department to intervene. The Justice Department? The campaign also plans to go after the station's advertisers in order to pressure the stations that continue to air the Obama-Ayers commercial. The Obama camp has now sent, not one, but two letters to the Justice Department, directly attacking the man who funded the ad, Harold Simmons. Simmons also happens to be one of the main funders of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Apparently this is Obama's version of not being "Swiftboated." The letter, calling the group's actions "patently illegal" for using footage of an Ayers documentary, reads: "We reiterate our request that the Department of Justice fulfill its commitment to take prompt action to investigate and to prosecute the American issues Project, and we further request that the Department of Justice investigate and prosecute Howard (sic) Simmons for a knowing and willful violation of the individual aggregate contribution limits." Persecute him! Here's the ad so you can judge for yourself. Now might be a good time to remind you how Obama won his first run for the Illinois State Senate. He didn't win by convincing the voters that he was the better candidate. He won by sending workers to the elections office to pour over petitions until he managed to get his opposition removed from the ballot. Now he's trying to use the U.S. legal system to keep people from running perfectly legitimate advertisements opposing his candidacy. There's really not much evidence that Obama is a fan of the electoral process. He would rather use a legal process to gain power. If the announcement of Obama's vice presidential pick was supposed to give him a bump in the polls ... that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact John McCain is leading in the polls leading up to the Democrat convention. Don't worry. I'm sure it is just because Democrats are being supported by people who aren't being polled. Nancy Pelosi doesn't seem to be worried. Nancy says, "We will own the ground Election Day." The best thing that Pelosi could do for Obama would be to stay out of sight until after the election. Remember, the Congress she leads has a favorability rating far below that of the president.
Bill Clinton had a classic moment in Denver yesterday. He said, "Suppose you're a voter, and you've got candidate X and candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don't think that candidate can deliver on anything at all. Candidate Y you agree with on about half the issues, but he can deliver. Which candidate are you going to vote for?" Then after a long pause, he adds that "this has nothing to do with what's going on now." Riiiight. Looks like conservatives aren't the only ones getting roughed up here in Denver. Nancy Pelosi had a little episode outside of a press event yesterday. Demonstrators started chanting "Drill here! Drill now!" and Nancy would have none of it. She apparently paused and asked the group if they wanted to drill right here ... "Can we drill your brains?" Then she resorted a bit of name-calling, referring to the protestors as "handmaidens of Big Oil" and the "two-cents-in-ten-years-crowd." Clearly that is what our energy future means to Nancy Pelosi. A majority of Americans support increased offshore drilling. Over a million Americans have signed Newt Gingrich's petition ... and yet all of these people are just "handmaidens of Big Oil." Why didn't Pelosi just stop to explain to these demonstrators that she's trying to save the planet? That's big stuff here in Colorado. Good Morning America is doing a series called "Meet the Joneses" in order to highlight the "average American family" and see how it deals with healthcare. One of the families was Lourdes and Bill Jones. They are working parents who are raising three children in California. Their top concern for this election is healthcare, and here's why: "Their young daughter has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Her treatment costs $160 per month, but insurance does not cover it." Imagine that. Their daughter is suffering from a phony disease and can't afford her "treatment." I bet this family has cable. I bet their daughter has a cell phone. I'm sure that they each have a car. The point is, folks, that you do not have a right to healthcare ... much less for a phony disease. If you are concerned about the cost, sacrifice. Make it happen. Don't expect a presidential candidate to give it to you "for free" on a platter. If you want to look at what our future will be in this country ... let's take a look at another story from Great Britain and their highly acclaimed National Health Service. In the UK, myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, affects 3,800 people a year. But one out of every four doctors admits that they avoid telling patients about treatments that could save their lives. The reason? Because doctors are struggling with the bureaucracy and cost-cutting budget of the NHS that makes it difficult to get the best treatment for their patients. That's the future of the American healthcare system. READING ASSIGNMENTS The JibJab folks have done it again! Since we're in the thick of it here this video is very timely: time for some campaignin' Here's an article about yet another Barack Obama association with another radical Islamist who helped Obama get into Harvard. Dick Morris talks about Michelle Obama's speech and those "magic" words: "I love my country." Come on, folks. Don't you know that there was no way in hell that she WASN'T going to utter those words? It's official ... Howard Dean says that Obama will change his message of "change" for general election. That would mean they've cranked up the focus groups again. Here's a concept ... Barack Obama is promising a speech with purpose and little rhetoric. That would mean that they've cranked up the teleprompters again. McCain is catching flack for answering a question about how many houses he owns by talking about his experience as a POW. That would be because Democrats know that McCain's POW experience resonates with the American people. The three men who said they were going to assassinate Barack Obama ... it's looking more and more like it wasn't a credible threat. I can tell you why that one goon jumped out of the hotel window. It wasn't because the police were at the door .... It was because he turned on a light and saw the room they had given him. A DNC delegate and Hillary Clinton supporter says, "if I had to base my vote on how [Obama's] supporters have treated us, I'd be voting for McCain." Is this guy actually serious? From the Washington Post: Government should raise energy taxes to make it too expensive for people to own computers, cutting down on the information available on the internet, which is a drag on the economy. Did you get that? Gotta love stories like this: Obama art is not for mere mortals. Apparently creating "Obama" art has become quite a movement. The Daily Show has bought a billboard on the freeway leaving the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport saying "Welcome, Rich White Oligarchs." That's fair, I guess. I once bought a billboard outside of the Democrat convention in Atlanta which read "Welcome Democrats: Remember your motto: "Those who rob Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul" Researchers say that California's anti-smoking campaign has saved $86 billion in health care costs in its first 15 years. A soldier who survived two tours in Iraq was killed on the job as a corrections officer at a high-security federal prison in California because federal officers are only allowed nonlethal weapons Just what you wanted to see, an in depth look at the different pant suits Hillary Clinton has worn on the campaign trail. I did love her line last night about "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pant Suits" The wealth envy crowd is just going to love this: a man threw a $10,000 Bar Mitzvah ... for his dog. And now for the real reason we cannot invest in wind turbines: Wind turbines make bat lungs explode. That's nothing ... liberals make my brain explode. | ||
