THE TEARS

So after all the coverage of Hillary's tears, whether they were real or not, we can say one thing for certain: they worked. Everywhere you looked yesterday the pundits were saying that Hillary's teary moment turned the tide. They worked on everyone except the one woman that actually asked Hillary the question that made her tear in the first place. The woman, Marianne Pernold, says that even with Hillary's tears, she ended up voting for Barack Obama. Thanks, Marianne, for keeping Hillary in the race, making this talk radio thing a lot easier.

But come on ladies! Is this the best you can do? Is this what woman's suffrage was all about? You wanted the right to vote so that you could reward a candidate's tear? Doesn't the country deserve better than that from you?

THEN THERE'S THE ECONOMY

We all know that when people think the economy is bad they have this annoying tendency to vote Democrat. Instead of gravitating to the party that would grow the economy, they gravitate to the party that will step forward, wrap it's arms around them, stroke them and tell them that they're going to be OK ... the government will take care of them. Now why would this be? Could it be because they're conditioned to turn to the government when the road gets bumpy? And just where would they get that conditioning? Government schools, possibly?

IT'S ALL ABOUT RACE

There are some people out there that must look at everything through a racial lens. For these people, Obama's presidential run will be all about his race ... even though he himself doesn't focus on it.

Chris Matthews of MSNBC, agrees with many other commentators. He says that pollsters leading up to the New Hampshire primary were misled because voters did not want to openly admit that they might not vote for a black candidate. In other words, voters said that they would vote for Barack so that they didn't appear to be racist.

Jesse Jackson, Jr. also played the race card. Now there's a huge surprise for you. This time, he says that Hillary's tears showed that she is heartless toward the blacks of this country. Jackson points out that Hillary didn't cry over Hurricane Katrina (that's his favorite example), but she did cry over her own appearance ... what does that say about her? Wow, Jackson. There's some real insight for you. Your constituents are so well served by your presence in Congress.

You see why I'm glad Hillary is still in the race? Wonderful stuff.

THE "OBJECTIVE" MEDIA

I could have told you this, but Americans have a very low opinion of lamestream media. Americans are not blind to blatant media bias, and they seem to be getting sick of it. A Sacred Heart University Poll found that just 19% of Americans believe all or most news media reports. This is down from 27% in 2003. When it comes to influencing your opinions, 79% strongly agree that news media attempts to influence public opinion. And which sources do Americans trust most? Fox News is considered the most accurate according to the poll, followed by CNN and NBC.

RUDY'S TAX PLAN

Just two days ago we had Rudy Giuliani on the show. I asked him about the FairTax. He didn't answer the question. I guess that's because the very next day, he unveiled his own tax plan. It sounds like you would expect:

  • Make permanent the bush tax cuts NOW...not in 2010
  • Permanently index the alternative minimum tax (AMT) and then eliminate it when practical (no timetable).
  • Get rid of the Death Tax
  • Lower the capitol gains and dividend rate to 10% and index to inflation. (Here is where he could go further and actually eliminate the capitol gains tax).
  • Lower corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%.
  • Trio of tax free savings accounts - Roth style - available to ALL income classes.
  • Tax simplification strategy - one page tax return
  • Three rates - 10% (40k), 15% (150k), and 30% (150k ).

Fine, as far as it goes. You still have the payroll taxes, you still have the tax compliance costs, you still have the IRS looking into your personal business, you still have audits, you still have withholding, you still have tax policy for social manipulation, and you still face hell leading up to April 15th. One more thing remains the same: power remains in the hands of politicians and government.

BOY SCOUTS BULLIES

In the Boy Scouts you have to master different skills like tying knots and building fires. Well in 2008, the Boy Scouts of America will add "confronting a bully" to its list of mastery skills. For the first time in history, they will learn Scout-approved ways of avoiding being pushed around or called names ... at least if they want to advance.

So what exactly does this mean? Well it sure doesn't teach you how to give a black eye, but the new handbook suggests snappy comebacks. Ok, if this is what the Boy Scouts of America really think will work against bullies ... that is for them to decide. But comebacks? Is that the best you can do? Why not name it the "Snappy Comeback" merit badge.

And of course, there are some people out there - I assume parents - that are upset with this new curriculum. They are upset that their precious little angels are being taught bullying techniques ... "Little Johnny doesn't need to know how to stand up to bullies." Get a clue, lady. At least the Scouts are gettin' a foot in the door.

I rather liked my father's lessons in how to handle a bully. "You pick up the nearest and heaviest thing you can handle and hit them with it." It works, too!

Oh, and you'll be happy to hear that the new handbook also covers cyberbullying ... oooh. Scouts will demonstrate how to show restraint when being taunted online.

DECISION: DEPORT?

A woman from Ghana went to Wales five years ago as a student. The woman, Ama Sumani, is now suffering from malignant myeloma, which would usually be treated with a bone marrow transplant. She has been receiving life-prolonging dialysis treatments at the University Hospital of Wales. There's only one problem: her visa has expired and they plan to deport her back to Ghana. Wait, one more problem: she can't afford healthcare in Ghana. But the U.K. ships her back anyway because she is not entitled to receive treatments from the NHS.

Where is private charity in all this?

After seeing the Afterthought emails, I feel obliged to present my argument for you. Although I am a supporter of Congressman Paul, I feel he deserves you an apology. He had an opportunity to openly discuss the platform differences you've discussed on-air, yet he chose to be petty. Additionally, I think that was a huge political mistake. Many of his core supporters (not the liberal nutcases) listen to you daily, as do many undecided voters.

The dog and pony show continues ... Mitt Romney has decided to pull his ads from Florida and South Carolina.

Here's a breakdown of how Clinton beat Obama in New Hampshire. It is a bit difficult to take exit polls seriously at the moment, seeing as pollsters got it so very wrong.

The Supreme Court seems to be OK with state voter ID requirements. Well ... all except Justice Ginsberg. But nothing is official yet.

The Interior Department still hasn't decided the endangered status of polar bears ... therefore environmentalists are going to sue. You do know that we have thousands more polar bears now than we did 20 years ago, don't you?

Turkish Kurds are finding better jobs ... in Iraq? That's a change of pace. You don't think we can convince Mexicans that those Iraqi jobs are worth going after, do you?

The CEO of Alan Keyes for President claims that the Iowa Republican party was deceptive during the recent caucuses. Keyes ... one of the brightest whiners I know.

Arizona's new immigration laws have gone into effect. Now articles like this are emerging: 4,000 students denied in-state tuition because they can't prove they are legal residents. By the way ... illegal aliens are self-deporting from Arizona in large numbers. Good to see.

Some are outraged in Britain because an al Qaeda-trained terrorist who was plotting to kill British soldiers could be out of jail after only one year.

Australian education experts are upset with a Scottish study on the proper way to teach children to read.

A company in Sweden wants to use the heat generated by thousands of commuters to heat a nearby office building.

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer wants to rename a popular Manhattan bridge after Robert F. Kennedy.

A man in Poland walks into a brothel only to discover his bride. This has put a slight damper on the wedding plans.
