| Monday, January 21, 2008 ECONOMIC STIMULUS - THE RIGHT (BOORTZ) WAY
Two things had the tongues wagging this weekend ... McCain and Hillary's wins and the possibility of an economic stimulus package.
Primaries ... covered elsewhere. Economic stimulus ... let's deal with it here.
Nothing is etched in stone yet, but the president wants a stimulus package that pours about $145 billion into the economy. This is equal to about 1% of our gross domestic product. The principal difference between the parties seems to be that the president wants income tax rebates paid only to people who actually pay income taxes. Imagine that. The Democrats, of course, want these income tax rebates paid to people who do not pay income taxes. That, my friends, is par for the course for Democrats, the champions of income redistribution.
Only in the mind of a Democrat would you envision an income tax rebate to someone who does not pay income taxes. Next up? Perhaps the Democrats could demand that General Motors pay rebates on new Chevy pickup trucks not only to people who actually bought the trucks, but to poor people who tried to buy a truck but failed to qualify for a loan because ... well, ... because they were deadbeats.
The Democrats, of course, will try to excuse the income tax rebates for people who don't pay income taxes on the basis that they pay Social Security taxes. Sorry, doesn't work. Those Social Security taxes are premiums paid for a defined benefit. That money (supposedly) comes back. To give people these phony tax rebates on the basis that the non-income tax payer paid Social Security taxes is to do nothing less than to give these people a free ride on Social Security. I've been telling you for years that we were coming to this. Once the Democrats manage to get their core voters freed from any responsibility to pay income taxes, they start working on the Social Security and Medicare taxes. Their goal is nothing less than to completely eliminate any responsibility their core voters have for the payment of any federal taxes of any kind. You can just imagine the campaign rhetoric we'll get from the MoveOn Democrats then:
"Vote for those Republicans and they're going to make you pay for your own:
(a) Social Security (b) Medicare"
That, my friends, is a winner at the polls .. and the party of class warfare knows it.
OK .. you knew it was coming, so here's the FairTax speech. Don't run away ... I'm going to approach it from a somewhat different perspective than what you've heard in the past
First, economic stimulus.
Both the Democrats and the Republicans seem to think that about $145 billion would be a good shot in the air for our economy. A one-time infusion of $145 billion. Great. I'm impressed.
Now ...let's see. Just what does it cost our economy every year just to comply with our hideously complicated tax code? I think I remember. Perhaps I remember because this very topic is a big part of "FairTax, The Truth: Answering the Critics" coming out in just two weeks. The answer, depending on how you want to calculate it, is anywhere from $300 to $500 billion a year. Now if we were to adopt the FairTax that would mean that our economy could get an infusion of over $300 a year that could be invested in business expansion and jobs creation rather than on the record keeping, paperwork and other tax compliance costs. The political class seems to think that a one-time infusion of $145 billion would help. Well, what could $300 to $500 billion a year do?
Really, though, those tax compliance costs are chicken feed compared to the American wealth that is working in offshore accounts. How much are we talking about here? Let's try $13 trillion dollars. And just how much is that? That's about ninety $145 billion stimulus packages. Pass the FairTax and there is no longer any reason for American investors and businesses to send or keep their dollars overseas to work under more favorable tax conditions. That money starts coming home where it can work right here in the USA with no tax consequences. Just how many new jobs do you think would be created over the years following adoption of the FairTax with trillions of dollars being repatriated to work in our economy at home?
That's just a brief overview of some of the ways our economy could benefit from the FairTax. There are some rather startling details in the book.
OK .. now for the Democrats class warfare game:
Just watch the battle over the next few days on the economic stimulus plan. Bush will try to save the tax rebates for people who actually pay taxes. Democrats will try to expand the free ride for core Democrat voters. With the FairTax none of this is possible. Democrats could never say "Vote for the Republicans and they're going to make you pay Social Security taxes" because nobody would pay Social Security taxes; ditto for Medicare taxes and federal income taxes. We could also throw in death taxes, capital gains taxes and dividend taxes. With a system were people are only taxed when they spend, the opportunities for class warfare rhetoric are, to say the least, limited.
One more thing about economic stimulus ... almost forgot this one.
The political class is making a big deal about a one-time $1600 "rebate" for your typical family of four. Yeah .. that's nice. Sixteen hundred bucks. Wow. That would amount to about $133 per month over a year. Now, let's consider the FairTax prebate. Under the FairTax every household of four would receive a check (or credit) in the amount of over $500 per month .. 12 months a year .. right up until the time that family either gets smaller or larger, and then the prebate would be adjusted accordingly. Sure beats the stuffing out of the president's plan, don't you think?
Remember, "FairTax, The Truth: Answering the Critics" hits the bookstores two weeks from tomorrow. If you want to take this tax idea and stick it right back into the face of the Washington elite ...help put the book right up there on the bestseller's list. Is it worth a $10 investment? Click here.
One more thing. I don't really want to hear any Democrats whining about how hard it is for a family of four to get by on $24,000 a year. If you can't make any more than $24,000 a year, what in the hell are you doing with two children? Sorry, but somebody has to say it.
RACE OVER GENDER
The single women out there have their thongs in a wad because their daytime television Goddess - Oprah Winfrey - is not supporting Hillary for president.
Now ...let's see. What was it I was telling you a few weeks ago? What is it that I have been saying incessantly on the radio? Oh yeah! Single women are going to be voting big-time for Hillary. And why? Basically, it's because they feel alone and insecure outside of a marriage. That means it's the government's job to provide them with the sense of security they feel they should be getting from a man. I know ... sexist thought ... but just because its sexist doesn't necessarily mean it isn't true. These are the women who need the "I want my Mommy, Hillary 2008" bumper stickers on their cars.
Now we have Oprah's website being bombarded with hundreds of fans who believe that she is being a hypocrite for supporting a black MAN over a woman. These are exactly the women that will be putting Hillary Clinton in the White House. These women can't get beyond their daytime soaps and soccer practices enough to respect or even try to understand Oprah's position. These single women expect every other woman to support Hillary ... and if you don't, you are a traitor to all women's causes. You are against women! Get a clue, ladies. Perhaps intelligent women out there aren't voting for Hillary because they don't agree with her socialist stance on providing your "right" to healthcare, or a baby sitter, or even the non-existent "right" to vote.
OK .. before you start with the emails and phone calls ... I know that this doesn't apply to all women. There are still plenty of sell-reliant women out there who do not want womb to tomb care and protection from the nanny state. I'm just afraid there aren't enough of them to prevent a Hillary Rodham presidency.
JERK LAWYER JAY GRODNER UPDATE
Jay Grodner is that pathetic lawyer who keyed the car of Marine Sgt. McNulty. His life was deservedly made a living hell in the weeks following the circulation of this story. So here's the follow up. Last week Grodner appeared in court ... but he arrived 30 minutes late in order to avoid the press. The judge was so furious that he ordered Grodner to be arrested and held on $20,000 bail when he arrived.
Grodner did plead guilty to causing damage to the Marine's car. He has to pay $600 to a Marine fund for wounded soldiers. He also has to report for Social Services probation once per month for the next year. If he misses any of this community service or doesn't pay up, the judge said he will throw Grodner in jail for a year. So let's hope Grodner misses a community service session.
The court room was apparently filled with Marines in uniform. The judge pointed this out to Grodner and gave him a little lesson. The judge said that the crowd of people was there "because there is a little principle that the Marine Corps has had since 1775 ... When they fought and lost their lives so that people like you could enjoy the freedom of this country." That principal is that you never leave a Marine behind ... and since Sgt. McNulty was unable to attend the court hearing, these Marines were there for him.
This pathetic creep says that he is ready to leave Chicago because of all the negative publicity. He plans to move to the south of France and do some traveling. That would be a good thing for the U.S. - for this slime bag to leave. As for Sgt. McNulty, he's traveling back to Iraq.
DITCH THE GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED THERMOSTATS
You will be happy to hear that the state of California has ditched its plan to allow the government to control your thermostat in times of "emergency." Instead it is tossing around the idea of making the program voluntary.
What happened? Publicity, that's what ... a lot of it, and a lot of it from talk radio. The people reacted and the politicians didn't appreciate the heat. We'll see what sort of new nanny state program they come up with the next time. Maybe they'll limit the number of minutes your shower can run.
SHARIA LAW IN BRITAIN
Islamic courts already exist in the UK, but their rulings mean nothing under British law. But if it were up to some prominent British Muslims, this wouldn't be the case. Dr Hasan has been a judge in British sharia courts for more than 25 years. He believes that British law would benefit from integrating aspects of Islamic personal law into the British civil system. Did you get that? He wants the British legal system to adopt aspects of Sharia law into its practice for British citizens. The rulings would come straight from the Koran.
Dr Hasan says that Muslim leaders in Britain are only interested in integrating personal Sharia law into British common law ... for now. Once they get a foot in the door, what is to stop them from implementing punishments like cutting off hands or flogging or stoning? Inch by inch.
As a matter of fact ... I do rather like that idea of cutting appendages off of thieves ... and rapists.
NANNY GOVERNMENT STORY OF THE DAY
A drama group in Great Britain uses toy guns and wooden swords in their performances. Well now the Carnon Downs drama group has to register their "weapons" with police in order to comply with British health and safety rules.
No .. I'm not kidding.
So now the group has registered two plastic cutlasses, a pistol that produces a flag with the word "bang" on it, and six wooden swords with the police. A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive say that they don't want to stop people from having fun, but the rules were designed to "sensibly manage" risks. You call this sensible? Tell me the last robber that was caught burglarizing a convenience store with a gun that shoots a flag saying "bang." I thought Gordon Brown recently said he was putting a stop to useless "nanny-state" laws such as this? Apparently his commission is slow to get started.
READING ASSIGNMENTS:
Top Democrats like Ted Kennedy are telling Bill Clinton to pipe down because his temper is hurting his wife's campaign. Ted Kennedy ought to shut the hell up. Bill Clinton only raped a women ... Ted Kennedy killed one.
The ultra left-wing Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where Atlantans go to stay up to date on what's happening in Hip Hop, has endorsed Barack Obama! May I now go on record with my bet that the AJC will endorse John McCain on the Republican side!
Michael Bloomberg is upset with Washington for failing to address the US' "crumbling infrastructure." He does make a good point though - pork-barrel spending is out of control.
The median age of voters in the 2008 election will be 44 ... and for Hillary voters, they will be single women and the uneducated. How does that make you Hillary supporters feel? Every study that's been done has shown that Hillary supporters make less money .. that mean's they're less successful than the supporters of other candidates. I think it's fair to say that they're less intelligent as well.
CAIR says that that GOP presidential candidates are, "falling over each other to demonize Muslims and Islam. They're trying to appeal to the power of prejudice and hate." It seems to me that Muslims are doing a good enough job of demonizing their religion, they don't need help from Republicans.
Hollywood moonbat George Clooney has been named a U.N. messenger of peace. I'm sure Belinda is really happy to hear about this.
The U.N. is trying to flex its non-existent muscles by bringing Saudi Arabia before a women's rights panel to be questioned about restrictions on "virtually every aspect of a woman's life" in the kingdom.
Here's Mark Steyn on Canada's thought police ... all in the name of "human rights." And here's some more Mark Steyn on the media painting our American military men and women as killers.
Cubans voted in parliamentary elections yesterday that could potentially start the transition to a post-Castro government.
The global warmers ought to get on this one pronto ... Texas is the biggest carbon polluter, and it would rank 7th in the world if it were its own country.
Hugo Chavez is threatening to take over farms and milk plants if owners refuse to sell to local markets, rather than distributing their products where they will actually make money ... it's called the free market.
It turns out that it was the co-pilot at the controls when the British Airways flight lost power.
A McDonald's promotion that offered free Happy Meals to Florida government school children if they got good grades has been stopped because one mom complained that her children do not eat fast food. Yeah.. that's all it takes. Just one busy-body helicopter mom.
The name "Brooklyn" is the 43rd most popular baby name in the United States. I wonder where "Hillary" lands on the list.
