Who are these people who are going to be bailed out?
Yes .. I know that there were some bad actors in the mortgage business. There are bad actors in every business. Me, for instance. But I can remember a dozen or so years ago when almost every major newspaper in the country was running investigative reports on the evils of the mortgage business. These reports told us that these evil mortgage companies were not doing enough to bring the American dream of home ownership to poorer people. The nasty mortgage lenders were actually using criteria such as income, job stability, credit ratings, loan-to-value ratio and other anti-inclusive measurements to intentionally keep minorities, single women and other poor, poor pitiful victims out of the home market. So --- before the feds stepped in and made them do it - the evil mortgage lenders started lending to people that should be renting. And here we are. Remember ... over 95% of the people in this country with home loans are making those payments each and every month. So what kind of crisis is this really? Can't it be said we're weeding out the chaff here?
But McCain did get something right. He said, "I also think that Congress is at fault. We didn't restrain spending. Spending got completely out of control." Amen. The size of government has grown grossly, particularly since the Republican got their hands on the reigns. What we need is a party that once again embodies the ideals of fiscal restraint. Sadly, this probably doesn't matter much to voters these days; therefore we aren't going to get any politicians who really pander to these ideals. Friday afternoon I was huffing and puffing away in the gym with the headphones on and watching Fox News. The timing was great because I got to watch McCain's entire speech to the American GI Forum in Denver, Colorado. I honestly believe that if every American read or heard this speech that it would be pretty much all over for The Chosen One. Here's your chance ... click here to read McCain's remarks, and be sure to go all the way to the end to read about Sergeant Roy Benavidez.
All this nonsense about Obama visiting the troops in Germany. Let's stop with the spin here. It's all very simple. Obama wanted to make a campaign event out of a visit to the troops. He wanted his people there, and he wanted the cameras there. When the Pentagon told him that he could bring a few aids and a Secret Service contingent ... that was it. Plans changed. Suddenly The Chosen One had other things to do. His visit to the troops was cancelled for one obvious reason. He couldn't turn it into a campaign event. There would be no videos he could use in campaign advertisements. Obama thought that the media was so in love that they wouldn't dare give the Pentagon's side of this controversy. He was wrong ... this time. See ya later, soldiers!
Why do the Democrats spend so much time talking about Afghanistan now? Because the U.S. is winning in Iraq. You just can't imagine how upset the Democrat Party is about this.
You want to get the full scale of this Obamamania? Just click on this link to see what it means to be a global rock star. This is a rather amazing panoramic picture of the idol worshippers in Berlin. Scan to the left of the stage .. then zoom in. There's that stage where the rock bands were playing before Obama showed up. Another rock concert/campaign rally ... just like Portland. I wonder if the Berlin band, like the Portland band, likes to open their set with the Soviet national anthem. Listen to the Boortz show today when I share the adventure of German "journalist" Judith Bonesky who wrote a report with the exciting headline "I worked out with Obama!" We'll be on the lookout. Barack Obama's Global Poverty Act is supposed to be on the Senate calendar for a vote sometime soon. This is the fancy wealth redistribution scheme where the United States will provide the UN with .7% of its GDP to "eliminate global poverty." Yeah, right. More like fund corrupt dictatorships. But if this bill comes up to vote, it will be interesting to see how Obamamania will play out in the Senate considering the actual facts of the bill. But how could anyone vote against the Messiah?
Sweden, of all places, is enjoying the fruits of a school choice system. Although Swedes are a true cradle-to-grave welfare society, their reformed system of school choice is gaining a lot of attention abroad. The program came to be in 1992 when a conservative government briefly had power. While that didn't last long, their school choice system did - it was so popular among Swedes that the opposing party kept the program once in retained power of the government. The system is easy ... you decide what school you want to attend. What a concept! These "independent schools" can choose their own teaching methods, staff and manage their own buildings. And since the program was instituted back in 1992, the number of private high schools has increased from 1.7% to 17%. Now, the schools in Sweden are still funded by the government - they aren't allowed to charge tuition. However, their government funding goes to private companies, which in turn run the schools and are able to keep whatever taxpayer money they save by running an efficient "business." Of course, the idea of evil corporations making a profit irks some Swedes. But in the end, these schools are growing rapidly. On the Stockholm Stock Exchange, the largest private school operator's net profit rose 33% to $3million in the first quarter of this year. Andrew Coulson, an education expert at the Cato Institute, says the Swedish program is "a beacon, being more market-like than any other among rich countries." And yet American presidential hopeful Barack Obama would rather that the government-run the education system in this country. He would rather your child get a mediocre education than allow for you to have the choice of where to send your child to be educated. It's not really about education, it's about capitalism. The biggest roadblock in the way to a similar system in this country? Teacher's unions. The most powerful unions in the country ... and unions that donate time and money almost exclusively to Democrats. Look back at the Swedish system. If the parents can chose the schools, then this means that the schools have to compete for the students. This means teachers have to perform or their school loses students AND money. God forbid teachers should have to perform and compete for students. Two Muslim girls in Dearborn, Michigan (America's Muslim Mecca) are upset because they claim they can't get a job at a local McDonald's due to their headscarves. The girls said they were told they couldn't wear their hijabs because "it gets too hot back there." Toi Whitfield and Quiana Pugh filed a lawsuit against McDonald's, the owner of the local franchise and its unnamed manager. They want $10 million for being "hurt and disturbed." And as if that isn't good enough, they are also considering filing civil rights complaints with the federal and state governments. Naturally, the Council on American-Islamic Relations has something to say about this. Dawud Yabba Dabba Ding Dong Walid, the executive director of Michigan's chapter of CAIR, says, "It is extremely disturbing that such discrimination could take place at a location which does not mind collecting Muslim dollars, yet places restriction on Muslim women who wear hijab." A listener writes to tell us he saw a bumper sticker which said "When women vote, Democrats win." Now that is probably one of the most honest bumper sticker I've ever heard of - second only to "If you're stupid, don't vote." This is easy to figure out. A Democrat vote is a big government vote. Women --- and I KNOW there are exceptions --- seek security. They want a safe and secure next in which to raise their children. It's someone else's job to provide that security. That someone else is government. Studies have shown that women react much more favorably to the word "security" than to "freedom." Could it possibly be that the founding fathers had the right idea? READING ASSIGNMENTS In case you were not aware, the Associated Press has declared that we are now winning the war in Iraq ... Don't look for any headlines in your local rag. McCain and The Chosen One are far apart on fixing our schools. Chose one. Use your brain and not your emotions. Are we headed for a filibuster proof Democrat big-government majority in Congress? Be very very afraid. Congress officially passed the housing bill this weekend. More of your tax dollars down the drain thanks to bad government policies. And we wonder why we are experiencing Obamamania in the media ... just take a look at where journalists are donating their money. Guess who handled security detail for Barack Obama while he visited Afghanistan ... the evil Blackwater that once "outraged" him. Iran says that it now has 6,000 centrifuges. Just a few more than they previously claimed. Just a few. These centrifuges, by the way, are used to make weapons grade nuclear fuel. I'm sure we have nothing to worry about. Meanwhile, a law professor at the University of Illinois has offered to represent Iran if it wants to sue the United States over threatened nuclear program sanctions. Venezuela has signed a deal with China to build a large oil refinery. Just want you want ... a personal carbon footprint calculator! I'm working hard to make mine as big as possible until this global warming nonsense goes away. By the way, you do know that the Earth is actually cooling ... don't you? Something sensible actually happened in Mexifornia ... Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have required government schools to teach climate change. This should be comforting ... one third of Muslim students in the UK support killing in the name of Islam. California has become the first state to ban trans fats. Now here's a great and harmless scam. This married couple just amazed people with their ability to work at their restaurant 21 hours a day. Pretty crafty. A man carrying a medical marijuana card was arrested for having too many marijuana plants. Chicago suburbs are slowly starting to repeal their bans on handguns ... even though members of the Chicago City Council are urging city's lawyers to "vigorously defend" the restrictions. Government schools across the country are considering banning energy drinks because they can be a distraction to learning. Where do unions get all of this money they spend on Democrats? In the case of the Service Employees International Union .. the money is forcibly taken from members. Don't you just LOVE unions? The Chicago City Council is also considering allowing some felons to run massage parlors. Well ... I guess it depends on the felony. As I've always said ... the lottery is a tax on the stupid. I love all those ignoranuses sending rich folks kids to college. A couple defended their home by beating a home intruder with a baseball bat until police came ... too bad they didn't have a handgun. A Pennsylvania shop owner is in trouble for flying U.S. flags because the flags flap into the street. Iowa is pondering the important questions in life: Is Stripping an Art? Extreme Home Makeover now an extreme foreclosure? Tokyo Disney is selling an odd Pirates of the Caribbean souvenir. | ||
