| Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Yesterday, Bob Barr officially announced that he will be running for president on the Libertarian ticket ... that's if he wins the nomination later this month. Good for him. But here we go with the emails already. People are already whining that this is going to end up just like another Ross Perot situation, but this time we would end up with Barack Obama as president. Well guess what ... I don't have my boxers in a bunch. At this point -- with the amazing growth of government the Republicans are responsible for - why on earth should I care that the Republicans wouldn't get another shot at the White House? Besides protecting tax cuts and fighting Islamic extremism, what else have the Republicans done? I'm a lifetime member of the Libertarian party. If Bob Barr as the Libertarian nominee pledges to fight Islamic fascism ... then I see no reason why he wouldn't have my vote. Well ... maybe one reason. He has to stop calling our forces in Iraq an "occupying army." The problem here is that Bob Barr is making the noises you would expect from a candidate who is dedicated to carrying the fight to the Islamic extremists. Without that, no vote from me. Let's face the music. Whatever happens this election isn't going to turn out well for people who believe in smaller government, lower taxes and more individual responsibility. We're turning this country into a giant assisted care living center, and I don't see much in this election that is going to change that course. Truth is, neither the Democrats nor Republicans are going to bring any real meaningful and positive "change" to Washington. Obama ... oh he stands for "change we can believe in." It's all empty rhetoric. Even so ... getting the Libertarian candidate into the presidential debates would bring a new perspective into this "I want my mommy" election. If the Libertarian candidate polls at 15%, then he will be included in the debates. Right now, Bob Barr's exploratory committee says he is polling at about 7% ... so he has a little ways to go. Lie to the pollsters. No problem there. Get the libertarians into the debate .. that should shake a few trees out there. MoveOn.org had a little contest to see who could come up with the best 30 second ad for Barack Obama. The winner was a military veteran who has been a lifelong Republican ... but he has now decided to vote for Barack Obama. They are calling him, and others like him, "Obamacans." But take a look at the video and really try and think about why this military vet says he's voting for Obama. First, he says he is voting for Barack "because he is strong." How did he come to that conclusion? What does that even mean? Is he basing this on Obama's ability to be elected to the Senate in an election that was practically handed to him? The military vet goes on to say that he will vote for Obama because "we need somebody who is going to represent the Left and the Right." So are you telling me that the man who has the absolute most Liberal voting record in the Senate is somehow the same person who is going to appeal to both Democrats and Republicans? Where is this guy getting his information? What has Obama ever done to indicate that he even understands basic conservative American principals, let alone will stand up for them. There are other videos too that won other categories. One of them compares Obama to Abraham Lincoln ... based on their lack of experience when entering the White House. Something tells me that is not a message you want to relay to your voters. We are supposed to believe that Barack Obama can run the United States of America because Abraham Lincoln did more than a century ago. That, my friends, is what I mean by pandering to the dumbmasses. Politicians are pushing the bucks for "green energy" and "green jobs" ... but what does this really means in terms of our energy subsidy dollars. That is the money that you are currently paying as a taxpayer to keep these alternative energies afloat and even growing. In 2007, the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimated that the taxpayers paid $16.6 billion in direct subsidies, tax breaks and loan guarantees on energy production. That is double what taxpayers spent just eight years ago. And that number will only get bigger. And just what do we have to show for it? Not much, that's for sure. Here's an even better way to look at it. How much taxpayer money is spent per unit of energy so that energy costs are standardized? Solar energy is subsidized at $24.34 per megawatt hour, wind energy $23.37 and "clean coal" is $29.81. On the other hand, normal coal gets 44 cents, natural gas gets 25 cents, hydroelectric gets about 67 cents and nuclear power $1.59. As of right now, wind and solar lobbyists are complaining that they aren't getting their "fair share" of the subsidies. But even though wind and solar power has been subsidized for years, they only account for less than 1% of the total net electricity generation. In other words, we continue to increase subsidies for energy sources that hardly anyone is actually using. On the other hand, nuclear power provides 20% of the electricity in the US and yet it is subsidized 15 times less than wind. Oh and when it comes to those alternative fuels ... the same Energy Information Administration study found that ethanol and biofuels received $5.72 per unit of energy produced. That is compared to $2.82 for solar power and $1.35 for refined coal, but only three cents for natural gas or petroleum. In other words, fossil fuels continue to dominate American energy policy because they are just more cost effective. And all of these politicians who want to create the "green jobs" ... the American taxpayers will be paying for them. Speaking of these "green jobs" ... it looks like that is exactly the platform Barack Obama is running on. Go figure. A student at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota (I believe) had to leave his teacher training program because his service dog was threatened by a Muslim student. Tyler Hurd is a 23-year-old student in a teacher-training program at Technical High School. Hurd has a service dog, a black lab, by the name of Emmitt who is trained to protect Hurd when he has seizures. Hurd's seizures can occur weekly and they are the result of a childhood injury. Hurd's dog Emmitt was threatened by a Somali student who is ... Muslim. As we know, Muslims forbid the touching of dogs. But students at the Tech schools taunted his dog and when a Muslim student threatened to kill the dog, that's when Hurd decided to leave his training. The schools are calling the situation a "misunderstanding." What's to misunderstand ... the Muslim faith does not accept dogs. They are offensive. Therefore, it is the job of those surrounding the Muslim faith to bend to its every request. REDNECK SCRAP BOOK Nice to see that even rednecks are getting involved in politics. More in the Redneck Scrap Book. READING ASSIGNMENTS Do you think this German parade float would ever make it in a parade here? Probably not. Too inseeennnssssitive. Just in case you weren't aware ... Barack Obama has visited 57 states on the campaign trail. No, that is not a typo. The Bush administration says that it will not sell crude oil from the US reserve in order to make more oil supplies available. Here's a story the mainstream media will likely not cover ... the story of a US soldier and how he got a young Iraqi girl new legs. Barack Obama has now overtaken Hillary Clinton's lead in pledged superdelegates. Not only are college students superdelegates in the Democrat primary, but Hollywood actors are trying their best to woo the students into Barack Obama's corner. This is some good news. An immigration raid of a kosher meatpacking plant in Iowa is estimated arrest 700 illegal aliens. Somebody bust out the sympathy card ... immigrants are being hit the hardest by foreclosures because they are unfamiliar with the U.S. mortgage market, unable to speak or read English well and vulnerable to those evil real estate professionals who told them property values always rise. Here's irony for you ... Iran says it will sue the United States and Great Britain for supposedly financially supporting a mosque explosion that killed 14 people. Remember Nancy Pelosi's pledge for earmark reform? I guess when she meant "reform" she only meant for other legislatures ... considering she just added a $170 million earmark for the salmon industry in the Farm Bill. Arkansas is calling state government handouts to poor, working parents an "emerging social experiment." What's so "emerging" about government leaches and wealth redistribution? Remember the Dallas Independent School District we told you about yesterday where 75% of graduating seniors can't read beyond an 8th grade level? The day before that statistic was announced, the school district was awarded a $1.35 billion bond to build even more schools to educate even more government geniuses. You want more government school outrages? Take a look at how government schools in New Jersey are spending your tax dollars. In Kenya, Muslim clerics have decided that a better way to fight AIDs would be practicing the Islamic faith, rather than using condoms. An airline passenger refused to hang up his cell phone on a recent flight. That could be a $25,000 fine ... for the airline. Apparently there is a serious problem with sex offenders becoming ice cream vendors and driving around ice cream trucks, which sell to little children. A man in Florida is going to sue the sheriff's department for giving him a ticket for wearing a Speedo on the beach. This girl did not win prom queen. In fact, she wasn't even allowed into the prom because her dress was too revealing. | ||
