YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN

Barack Obama gave a speech yesterday where he laid out his housing plan. In his speech he actually said that he does not accept an American where Washington's only message to working people is that "you're on your own."

Now what does this really mean? It means that when it comes to the nanny government, you never get pushed out of the nest. You never have to fly on your own. You never have to fend for yourself or look to your family and friends for help. Nope ... not in an ObamaNation. An ObamaNation means that you have the privilege of being born into a wonderful womb to tomb, cradle to grave nanny state where you always have the government to depend on.

Translation: When the going gets rough, you always have a friendly caretaker government that will take money away from someone who has made better choices and worked harder than you, and give you that money to pave the way. How nice.

Obama wants to "reaffirm that fundamental American belief" that we are all in this together. Gee, I don't remember that fundamental belief being touted by our Founding Fathers. I thought their messages rang more to the tune of individual freedom and liberty. I thought the American Dream was allowing everyone, no matter where they came from, the chance to achieve personal success and be whatever you could work to achieve. But somehow along the way, we have ended up with Barack Obama's version of the American Dream: a collective society that is controlled by the government.

Don't these phrases sound familiar? Think about it. Barack Obama does not want you to be self-sufficient. He wants you to rely on the government for everything, including housing, which was the point of the speech he made yesterday. Liberals like Obama detest the idea of being able to do something on your own. Why? Independent people don't need government. Independent people don't need an ObamaNation.

Oh and by the way, Obama has proposed yet another entitlement program. This one is called the Foreclosure Prevention Fund and it will cost an immediate $10 billion. This taxpayer money will be used to "extend a hand to folks who are struggling" in order to bail people out of their mortgages. Another translation: We will extend a hand to people who made stupid decisions, bought more house than they could afford, borrowed more than they could pay back, and then ran their credit card bills up with lifestyle spending while ignoring their mortgage payments.

And when it comes to the tax code, Barack Obama says that we need a tax code that's "fair." Gee, I could come up with one. In fact, I know one that has $20 million worth of research. It is the most well researched piece of tax reform in history. It also happens to be "fair." But Obama won't accept something like the FairTax. Instead he wants more government entitlement programs. He wants to give homeowners a tax credit that covers 10% of the families' mortgage interest payment. He also wants to eliminate income taxes on seniors making under $50,000 a year. And he wants to create a "Making Work Pay" tax credit that gives up to $500 for American workers and $1,000 for working families. You can believe that these payments will be made to people who have absolutely no federal tax burden at all. Income transfer. Wealth transfer. Vote buying. Simple as that.

BOB BARR WINS

It comes at little surprise that Bob Barr won the Libertarian nomination this past weekend. He anticipates being on the ballot in 48 states and maybe all 50. He also expects to be invited to political debates, so long as he receives poll support of at least 15% of the voters.

Support him? Look, I find it hard to support any candidate who refers to our troops fighting Islamic jihadists in the Middle East as "occupiers." The Germans in France were an occupying force. Our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are liberating forces.

But - still a bit early in the election. One thing I will do is tell any pollster who calls that I support the libertarian candidate. If Barr shows 15% in the polls he gets into the debates, and that could well spice things up a bit.

RACIAL RESENTMENT INDEX

This is how the media is going to treat this election. Newsweek has recently created a "Racial Resentment Index" for white people in order to measure their bias in voting for Barack Obama.

Starting several weeks back .. the Obama campaign became a racial movement. Disagree, you're a racist. That's only a hint as to how it will be if and when he becomes president.

OBAMA'S COMMENCEMENT SPEECH

Barack Obama filled in for Ted Kenney as the commencement speaker at Wesleyan University. One of his main messages seemed to be the idea of becoming a good little government subject. He urged the graduates to "make us believe again" by dedicating themselves to public service. In other words, this country will go down the toilet if you choose to become an entrepreneur and be successful and make a healthy profit for personal gain. It is asked that you give up personal "greed" and serve for the common good.

Think for a moment what our country would be like if every college graduate out there dedicated himself to public service. The public sector creates no wealth. It consumes wealth. With every striving to be a public servant, who is going to produce the wealth out there?

Obama also urged students to focus on more than "the big house and the nice suits and all the other things that our money culture says you should buy." So in a capitalist society, it is bad for you to want more than others may be able to have, according to Barack Obama.

Are you seeing where he is going with statements like this? They are small statements, but they are laden with messages of wealth envy and anti-capitalist rhetoric.

DUMBING DOWN GOVERNMENT EDUCATION

The government schools in Nashville, TN have decided to shake up their curriculum. Unfortunately they are inadvertently dumbing down educational math requirements in the process.

The old curriculum used to offer seventh grade students the chance to begin taking Algebra. This way, they are a year ahead of average students and have the ability to take for more advanced courses in math in high school. What the government school system has decided to do is take away this chance for smart seventh graders to start taking algebra a year in advance. They say they want to do this in order to ensure that all students take four years of math in high school. Meanwhile, advanced middle schools students are forced to sit around for an entire year's worth of math classes and twiddle their thumbs. In other words ... the government would rather prevent your kid from excelling in order to make all students take math for four years in high school. Meanwhile, one of the principals is excited because this new curriculum will benefit low-achieving students because it will challenge them a bit more.

These are your government schools, folks. These schools would rather build a curriculum based on pleasing the low-achievers than allow above average students excel. Talk about teaching to the lowest common denominator. That's what you can expect from a government education.

NO HOMESCHOOLERS

By now I'm sure you have heard about Subway's essay contest "Every Sandwich Tells a Story." Log on to the web page and read all about the contest. Contestants get to complete a story from four different starter scenarios like "The mysterious meatball." But scroll down a bit more. Read the rules at the bottom of the page. If you don't want to take the time to do that I'll just repeat the rules for you here:

"Contest is open only to legal US residents, over the age of 18 with children in either elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted."

Well now, that's a bit odd, isn't it? If you are schooled at home by your parents you aren't allowed to participate in this contest! What could possibly be the reason for this? Do we have some promotions people at Subway who are somehow dead-set against home schooling? Did some group (teacher's unions?) bring pressure to bear here?

Here's a "customer service form" from the Subway website. Perhaps you have something you would like to say. Suddenly I'm not all that fond of Subway sandwiches. Funny how that happens.

CARBON RATION CARDS ... SERIOUSLY?

British politicians have come up with the brilliant idea of having the government issue carbon ration cards. Each and every adult would be forced to use this card when paying for gas, airline tickets or household energy. Britain's influential Environmental Audit Committee says that this personal carbon trading scheme is the "best and fairest way" to cut British emissions "without penalizing the poor." And there you have it, folks. Those that use more and produce more will pay more. The environmental movement is nothing more than a sham attack on capitalism.

In this case, everyone would be given an annual carbon allowance. People who exceed their "entitlements" would have to buy credits from people who haven't used their allowance.

You can bet your last shilling that somewhere along the way some money flows into a government coffer. If they don't think about that in Great Britain, they'll figure it out before they get here..

The Government of Great Britain actually says that it supports the principle of this scheme, but says that it is "ahead of its time." In other words ... a program like this will be coming to a country near you. It's only a matter of time.

THE U.N.'S CLIMATE FRAUD

Billions of dollars are being wasted by the United Nations in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Academics and watchdog groups are now uncovering that the UN's main offset fund is being abused by chemical, wind, gas and hydro companies that are claiming emissions reduction credit for projects that do not actually reduce any emissions. The result? Billions of your tax dollars down the drain to pay industries in developing countries that are not going what they are supposed to get paid to do: reduce emissions.

This is all centered on the UN's clean development mechanism (CDM), which was established by the Kyoto protocol. It allows rich countries to meet their emissions targets by funding clean energy projects in developing nations. But two researchers at Stanford University have examined more than 3,000 of these projects. While $10 billion has already been granted to these projects from the UN's CDM funds, the research concluded that the majority should not be considered for assistance. According to one professor, it is looking like between one third and two thirds of all these projects do not actually cut emissions.

Just for a moment, let's get specific. These credits are earned by promising to reduce emissions in addition to those that would have taken place without the project. But researchers are saying that it is impossible to prove this "additionality" and therefore impossible to verify. In another case, nearly three quarters of all of these CDM projects were already completed by the time they received the UN money. So clearly, the money was not needed in order to finance the project, because it is already finished. However, these companies are still getting the extra income after the fact because it can never be proved that a developer or factory would not have done the project if they were not promised the offset income.

So companies in richer nations are paying for these "clean" projects in "developing nations," which are subsidized by this UN fund. These companies are paying this money in order to comply with the Kyoto protocol. And now we find out that perhaps two thirds of these "clean" projects are nothing but a complete joke. That sounds about right.

ATLANTA RIDE FOR KIDS

Atlanta area motorcycle riders, here's a great excuse to get the rubber on the road: the 2008 Atlanta Ride for Kids to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation on Sunday, June 1st. Join hundreds of other motorcyclists for a scenic ride through the rural countryside north of Atlanta. You'll have a great time while raising funds for the PBTF's medical research and family support programs!

READING ASSIGNMENTS

Newt Gingrich was on the show today and urged you to go to his website and sign the petition to authorize energy exploration.

Obama's uncle helped liberate Auschwitz? Wow, the guy must be getting really tired and confused on the campaign trail. It didn't take long though. Here comes the correction. This man is desperate to acquire some military creds.

More Obama. Now it looks like Obama is not going to guarantee the Iranian menace a face-to-face meeting.

Here we get another example of Obama's wishy-washy foreign policy. This time he is trying to decide whether or not he would engage in talks with Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.

John Lott is at it again arguing about women in politics, particularly because Hillary Clinton seems to think she has been discriminated against.

If Bill Clinton had it his way, this discrimination would all be the media's fault. Well, you sure can't blame it on the fact that people just don't like his "wife."

Tom Coburn believes that the Republicans are in denial ... that's what I've been saying for years.

When oil prices increase in Europe, guess what France decides to do ... cut taxes!

Teachers unions are so concerned about power that they would rather turn away donated money for harder working teachers in order to maintain its role as the exclusive agent for negotiating teacher pay.

Here's some news that shouldn't shock you ... companies that have board members with ties to a winning political party enjoy a boost in share prices following an election.

You want a government outrage? How about $382,000 in anti-terrorist grants to shuttle gamblers to and from mountain-town casinos in Colorado.

How about one more outrage. A barber in Louisiana was given a citation for violating a law barring him from working Sundays and Mondays.

Okay, just one more ... but this one comes from Great Britain. A local city council has decided that one family needs a lifeguard in order for their children to use their 2ft deep kiddie pool in the backyard.

Wake Forrest University has decided to drop its requirement for SAT or ACT scores after reviewing research that shows the tests favor wealthier students.

Virginia Tech will be debuting its Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention where students can minor in peace studies. Oh yeah ... most businesses just can't wait to hire someone who majors in peace studies.

One homeowners' association in Florida is threatening to sue a Navy veteran for flying an American flag on a pole in his front lawn.

West Point is now concerned about making its graduation ceremony songs gender neutral.

In a gesture of goodwill from France ... a French couple has started an organization that adopts the graves of America soldiers who died during the invasion of Normandy. They encourage French families to lay flowers on the graves.

The American Red Cross is now offering free gas to people who are willing to donate blood.

Police in Amsterdam are being encouraged to buy the Koran and "deepen their knowledge of Islam." Meanwhile, the police bosses (taxpayers) will pay for half the purchase. Inch by inch.

A teenager in Great Britain was told by police to remove an English flag from his car because the flag could be offensive to "immigrants," which translates into Muslims.

A British prison officer has been transferred from his post after naming his sniffer dog "Allah." I can hear it now. Allah, off the couch. Down, Allah, Down! Allah! Quit humping that nice lady's leg!

Here's the story of an armed standoff with police that never actually happened ... because the "armed" men were asleep and weren't aware their house had been surrounded all night long.
