No, really. Joe the plumber was the star of the debate last night. In Ohio earlier this week, Obama explained to Joe, a future small business owner of a plumbing company, that he wanted to increase taxes on Joe because he wanted to "spread the wealth." Here was a man who wanted to buy a business and employ some people and Obama tells him he's going to increase his taxes so that he can spread the wealth around a bit. Come on, folks! Are you telling me you don't see anything wrong with this? Who needed to be the star last night? John McCain. I'm sorry, but he just didn't make the grade. You could say that this was his best debate out of the three. Gee, that bar was set really high ... but the fact of the matter is that even if McCain did take off the gloves, he spent too much time in the corner fending off blows.
Now how easy should this have been? John McCain didn't even point out the fact that it is impossible for Obama to cut taxes for 95% of working Americans because 48% of those people don't even pay income taxes in the first place! Don't you think a lot of Americans would have leaned forward in their chairs and said "What? Is that true?" McCain just wouldn't throw that punch. This is one of the most obvious, glaring misnomers of the Obama campaign, and John McCain could not relay that to the American people. You know, the problem may really be with his advisors. Maybe nobody took the time to fill in those blanks for him. Did McCain have some good moments? Yeah, the line "I am not President Bush. If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have run four years ago." Loved it. Where has this line been for the last couple of months? But here's what I mean about the boxing gloves. McCain did bring up Bill Ayers and ACORN ... but that's about it. He didn't press, he didn't give much detail, he didn't do much of anything other than to lob it out there and let Barack Obama dance around it with eloquence. And in the end, I think it did nothing to help John McCain because he couldn't effectively argue the fundamental reason why we as voters should care about these issues. So what happened? Barack Obama did exactly what I said he would do. He said, "The people don't really care about these issues, what they want to hear about is this economy and their jobs." The end. There are a lot more things to talk about but we'll have to get to those on the air today. Maybe I'll even answer some of the questions the way I think McCain should have answered them.
Democrats smell blood in Georgia. Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss is running against some character named Jim Martin. I've heard Jim Martin's campaign ads. It seems that he is unable to say anything that doesn't include the line "Bush's failed __fill in the blank ____ policies." Straight from the Democrat talking points guide for candidates. Martin has been unable to come up with any ideas or thoughts of his own. Now Chuckie Schumer's Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) has decided that their guy needs a little help, so they've produced an ad that attacks Chambliss for his support of the FairTax. In that ad the DSCC has decided to lie. That should be no surprise. Now I've told you that one of the biggest problems with the FairTax is that it is so easy for liars to demagogue. Anyone running against a supporter of the FairTax has several avenues of attack they can use, all based on lies or half-truths. The most common such attack is "So-and-so wants to ad 23% to the cost of everything you buy." That simple-minded and dishonest approach is the one chosen by the DSCC to use against Saxby Chambliss.
Now you can bet that I'll have something to say about this ad on the air today. Since we have that debate between McCain and Obama last night I might not be able to hit this as hard as I wish until later in the week, but I'll tell you this. We are going to do everything we can to get Jim Martin on the air to either defend or to refute this ad. My guess is that he doesn't have the onions to go toe to toe with me on the air over this horsesqueeze. We'll see. In the meantime ... for those of you who don't understand the basic dishonesty behind this ad ... let me share a very brief explanation. The FairTax replaces all federal taxes paid by you and by businesses. No income tax. No capital gains taxes. No death tax. No Social Security tax. No alternative minimum tax. All gone. The elimination of these taxes will remove these tax components from the price of everything you buy. Surely, even if you're government educated, you will understand that all of the taxes paid by all of the people who are responsible for bringing a loaf of bread, a movie theatre ticket or a gallon of gasoline to the marketplace are passed down the line and paid by the final consumer of that item. Think about this ... where ELSE would the money to pay those taxes come from? There is no other way to generate the income necessary to pay these taxes OTHER than to include them in the final price of everything sold in our economy. So, how much is this tax component? About 22%. The taxes included in some consumer items are higher, lower in others, but the average is about 22%. When this 22% tax component comes OUT of the price of everything you buy, it is REPLACED by the 23% FairTax. So, THE TRUTH is that the FairTax does not "add 23% to the cost of everything you buy." It replaces the 22% average tax component included in the cost of everything you buy with a 23% sales tax. There's so much more to this, and you can get the details from Americans for Fair Taxation, Congressman John Linder's website, or by heading to your bookstore and buying a copy of The FairTax book. Promise ... those of you who were initially frightened by this DSCC lying attack on the FairTax will come away supporters if you educate yourselves. Now I want you to think about this. The DSCC commits $1,000,000 dollars to defeat Saxby Chambliss in Georgia. All they can come up with is an ad that misrepresents the FairTax and lies about Chambliss. I guess this means that the Democrats and Jim Martin don't have any substantive truthful reason why you should not keep Saxby Chambliss in office. Before we move on, here's a column detailing how the FairTax could have (and still could) saved us from this economic mess.
But then again, what do I know? Rep. John Murtha has managed to stay in Congress this long, I'm sure that calling his constituents racist won't change anything. Murtha said, "There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area." Because of this, Barack Obama is still going to win, but he could lose as much as 4 points off his lead. So there you go. From the halls of the Congress to Pennsylvania's ears. ACORN is being investigated in something like 11 states for voter fraud. Their headquarters in Las Vegas have been raided by Nevada authorities. They have registered Mickey Mouse, 7-year-olds, the Dallas Cowboys to vote in Arizona, and the list goes on and on. And they have done some of this with $800,000 from the Barack Obama campaign. So the Republicans cry foul. Not just the Republicans, but there have been reports all over the media of ACORN's fraudulent voter registrations. Now comes the response, and it is completely predictable. The evil Republicans are calling out ACORN for its crimes is an attempt to suppress voter turnout. The usual suspects like the NAACP have come to ACORN's defense. The president of the left-wing People for the American Way says, "Those who are stirring the 'voter fraud' pot don't want to talk about voter suppression and intimidation. They want to use the code word of 'voter fraud' as cover for their real objective of voter suppression. It's a sad day when a campaign's success strategy is dependent upon keeping voters away from the polls." Isn't this just so typical of the left? ACORN employees fraudulently register voters and any criticism of their activities is portrayed by the leftist media and the MoveOn/ACORN/Democrat party as just an attempt of Republicans to suppress the vote. The Barack Obama campaign, which previously claimed that Obama never worked for ACORN, now says that his campaign doesn't need ACORN's help. Well, that's nice, but the damage has been done. The Obama campaign has paid ACORN to get out the vote ... you can't change that now. Why don't you, Barack Obama, come out and denounce these actions by ACORN? Has that thought ever crossed your mind? When the GOP calls for immediate hearings into ACORN's actions and abuse of government funds, Democrats like Barney Frank dismiss it as an attempt to help John McCain win the election. Frank said, "My Republican colleagues, in raising the issue of ACORN, which is unrelated to the subject of regulatory restructuring, have apparently decided to try to hijack the committee and turn it into an echo chamber in an effort help out the McCain campaign ... No legislation passed by the House has authorized or appropriated funds for ACORN." That's funny, didn't the Democrats try to get a provision for community organizations like ACORN to receive 20% of any profit seen from the bailout bill? Hmmmm ... ACORN has received millions of dollars in federal grants over the years. But I suppose that is beside the point. Trust me ... there will never be a serious investigation of ACORN and their illegal and fraudulent activities. Whenever Republicans try to uncover voter fraud the Democrats scream voter suppression. The Democrat response is as certain as the "Republicans want to destroy Social Security" line in each and every election. Sarcastically speaking, here's a brilliant piece of commentary in the Guardian from the UK. Here's just a little taste: Barack Obama and the Democrats are stealing the election. Massive voter fraud
is being carried out, even as we speak, by their henchmen, known by the
innocuous sounding Association for Community Organisations for Reform Now, or
Acorn. Clever bastards. The only actual crime here is that Acorn managed to register some 1.3m
low-income (read: Democratic-leaning) voters over the past two years. The rest
is, pretty much, just made up. That's just the beginning, folks.
One regional party chairman says, "We are very excited, we feel that we are at a turning point ... We can afford to be less on the defensive for the first time since Ronald Reagan, and we can say our word in rebuilding America on a new basis, rebuilding a better world, instead of one based on the greed of the few." Oh gawd, here we go with this "greed" nonsense. There's another reason why the Communist Party is pumped ... they are working hard to get people to vote. Gosh, I wonder which candidate could have these Communists drooling. While the Communist Party has not officially endorses Obama for president, a report from the Communist headquarters says that "many staff here wore his picture on lapel buttons, while Republican John McCain was relegated to a box of tissues -- the tissues being pulled through his mouth."
As I've already said, he was the start of last night's debate. On Monday I told you about Joe the plumber who caught up with Barack Obama on the campaign trail. Joe is the one who asked Obama about raising taxes on small business owners such as himself. Obama replied with this "I just want to spread the wealth" liner. Well Joe is getting a lot of press now, considering it took one small business owner in Ohio to finally wake people up and say "Oh, so that's what Barack Obama wants to do to our country ... that sounds kinda like Marxism!"
Subject: election READING ASSIGNMENTS
Barack Obama as Robin Hood. There is a problem with this analogy though. Robin Hood didn't, as most people believe, "take from the rich to give to the poor." He actually took from the government. Small but important point. American troops killed the second in command al Qaeda leader in Iraq. Nancy Pelosi is planning a $300 billion scheme to "stimulate" the economy. How is ACORN going to affect Barack Obama's chances of winning? Dick Morris has more. This is one classy ACORN worker ...wait is this a man or a woman? Sarah Palin likened our economic crisis to a "war" saying that we will win ... the liberals aren't too pleased. The White House used taxpayer money to help get Republicans elected in 2006? Yeah, that worked out really well for them. It looks like Joe Biden has had a bit of trouble with his campaign funds, paying more than $2 million in campaign cash to his family members, their businesses and employers. I've talked about Barack Obama's history of voting "present" as a Senator. Here's a quick reminder of how he voted on Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac reform. Apparently McCain called up Hillary Clinton back in September to ask her about her home foreclosure plan that he has since adopted a version of on the campaign trail. The Prime Minister of Australia says that this economic crisis is the "comprehensive failure of extreme capitalism" thanks to greedy CEOs. This from the Chicago Sun Times ... Sarah Palin is "an All-American girl as racist, this time a racist with her eye on the White House." Our home state of Georgia has had a high voter turnout rate ... people are energized to vote for the Chosen One. A government middle school in New York has a poster of Barack Obama on its front door. And you are surprised because ... this is the same district where the teachers are suing to be able to wear Obama gear in the classroom. Sex offenders in Maryland will be required to post pumpkins on their doors that read "No candy at this residence." Okay, we've seen everything now. A livejournal group of conservatives. Conservatives that are furries. In case you didn't see that CSI episode, here's an explanation of what furries are. | ||||
