9/11

Darnit! I wrote a whole thing for 9/11 and then forgot to hit "save" before sending it off to be posted. Oh, well. Sorry about that folks. So, here are my thoughts from 9/11/01.

SOME LIES ABOUT SARAH PALIN

Said that Dinosaurs were "Satan's lizards."

Tried to ban books from her town library

Had an affair with her husband's business partner.

She didn't stop the "bridge to nowhere."

The Down's Syndrome baby was her daughters.

She wants to force creationism teaching in government schools.

She wants only abstinence education in the schools.

She cut funding for programs for unwed teenagers

She cut funding for special education

She lied about selling the governor's plane on Ebay

THEY TOOK IT TO THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE

For months we have been documenting various incidents where Barack Obama is compared to Jesus. There were pictures of him with halos surrounding his head ... blah blah blah.

Now Democrat Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee actually took this argument to the floor of the House of Representatives. Three days back from their summer vacation, and we already have a Democrat on the floor comparing Barack Obama to Jesus Christ.

Here's the quote: "I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, that the parties have differences. But if you want change, you want the Democratic Party. Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor. Thank you, Mr. Speaker."

For those of you who might have a short attention span, Steve Cohen was recently involved in a bitter primary with a world class woman Nikki Tinker. Barack Obama did have something to say about the situation.

OBAMA DIDN'T CHALLENGE THE CHICAGO SYSTEM

I've been teasing this for week ... Barack Obama had opportunities to stand up to the corrupt politics of the Mayor Daley machine ... and didn't. Here's the Readers Digest version of what I am talking about.

When Obama was a state senator, he served on the board of several local education foundations. He also chaired the infamous Chicago Annenberg Challenge, created by none other than Bill Ayers. At the time, Chicago education was deeply divided between these local education councils and the central Board of Education overseen by the mayor. For being a man who champions his days as an education reformer ... it seems as though Obama didn't do much to stand up to the corrupt system in Chicago.

Alexander Russo reports in Slate magazine:

For several months, Obama didn't indicate clearly where his sympathies lay. He didn't join with protesters and other legislators who swarmed public events denouncing the Vallas proposal. He didn't talk to the press about the importance of community engagement for schools or the unfairness of diminishing the influence of the 5,500 elected LSC members. Obama kept tabs on the negotiations through his staff, met occasionally with local-control advocates, and, according to those who were involved, sometimes provided ideas and advice in private. But that was about it. Some local advocates weren't even sure whether he would ultimately be on their side or not. And many worried that without someone like Obama to stop it, the Vallas juggernaut would overrun any opposition ...

In the end, support for Vallas' proposal suddenly collapsed ... Only after the fig leaf was in place did Obama come out publicly in support of local school councils, making a brief speech on the Senate floor to codify the final agreement preserving local councils' authority ...

In being so late to the debate, however, Obama didn't really have to stand up to anyone-not the groups he was affiliated with, not Vallas, not Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. He was just approving the final result. He remained loyal to his roots, but only when it was easy to do so. To some critics, this is exactly the problem. "Obama has no history of standing up to school interests or anyone else," says Dan Cronin, the Republican state senator who handled the 1999 legislation (and recalls little if any involvement from Obama). "If you look at his past record, there's nothing that's particularly bold or creative."

THE GOVERNMENT KNOWS BEST

Here's our "government knows best" quote of the day. This comes from Dr. Tim Johnson, ABC's medical editor, commenting on John McCain's healthcare plan.

"The idea that individuals are going to have enough knowledge and enough savvy and enough insight and, frankly, enough guts to make choices all by themselves is pretty much a pipe dream."

CONSIDERING THAT MENTALITY ...

Let's take a jump across the pond to Great Britain and its universal healthcare program.

One half of primary care doctors are accused of ignoring National Health Service guidelines that say morbidly obese patients should have stomach surgery to reduce their appetite. In other words, the government wants to force doctors to do surgery on morbidly obese patients. The president of the British Obesity Surgery Society says that he will consider taking his case to court in order to force the NHS (taxpayers) to fund the surgeries.

A MESSAGE FROM A REFORMED IDIOT ...

Subject: Inspirational Neal-Nagging
Name: Brandon

Message:
Neal, this is a quick message to let you know that your incessant condemnations of smokers were one of the catalyzing factors behind my decision to not just quit smoking, but to do it sooner rather than later. I'm proud to say that since I quit several months ago I have not had even the slightest thought of going back to such a wretched, self-destructive habit. Neal, I could have done it without you, but you made it a lot easier. For that, you have my gratitude.

Furthermore, Neal, thank you for doing what you do on the radio each day. There are a lot of people across this nation that value your words and dedication to freedom, and I certainly count myself among them. And, although I know you don't need my encouragement, I would be remiss if I did not urge you to keep telling everyone what they don't want to hear. God knows we need it. I certainly did, and you have my assurance that I will continue to be an ardent supporter of both you and the nation that allows us both to do whatever we see fit with our short time here on the surface. That's a liberty which so few have, and even fewer appreciate.

Again, thank you. I hope this message finds you in good health and good spirits. Take care.

Sincerely,
Brandon

READING ASSIGNMENTS

OPEC is going to cut production by 500,000 barrels a day, and the White House isn't too happy about it.

Barack Obama says that he is going to create 5 million "green jobs" ... John Stossel calls this a fallacy.

Irans' Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is returning to the United States to address the United Nations.

Charlie Rangel, a Democrat from New York, says that he will not step down as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee after failing to report income from a rental property he owns in the Caribbean.

There has been some controversy over Palin's travel reimbursements as governor ... this should clear that one up.

How about clearing up this controversy ... Palin did not ban books in Wasilla as mayor.

Being the governor and having a budget of only $2 billion must not qualify you to be president. Oh wait, that was Bill Clinton.

I love this headline about the Democrat's current mindset: (Near)PANIC!!!

Would the Democrats be willing to shut down the government over offshore drilling?

The Old Farmer's Almanac has not only predicted a cooler winter, but says that we will experience global cooling in the decades ahead.

You'll never believe what Boston government has done (and how much the tax payers have paid!) to install wind turbines to power 19 light bulbs.

The city of Chicago is debating the tough issues ... whether or not to ban metal bats from youth baseball leagues.

There was a federally mandated agreement that requires employers to accommodate Islamic prayer schedules and the handling of pork products.

A blogger at Townhall has created an electoral map for Barack Obama.

These are the kind of political outrages currently facing in Canada.

You can thank Francis Hernandez, an illegal immigrant, for this fatal traffic accident in Colorado. Even worse ... he already had been arrested 16 times.

What do the locals in Alaska have to say about the "bridge to nowhere" claims made by Palin?

If you want to defend Belinda from the twits in the comments calling her all sorts of terrible things for wanting to do right by her so, head on over here and give them whatfor.
