Oh yeah ... I've gone through it. First impression is that the president seems to want to put the entire blame for this stuff on the private sector. Not one mention of the government's culpability. There will be plenty to say about this on the air today ... including my own bailout plan! That's right! Boortz has a bailout plan! Now you might think that takes a bit of hubris .. but you listen today and tell me just what's wrong with my idea and why it isn't better than Bush's.
"I will suspend my campaign
and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have
spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to
join me. Obama's reaction? "The debate is on." The first response from the liberal media ... McCain is doing this because he doesn't like the way his campaign is going. The Politico says, "in terms of the timing of this move: The only thing that's changed in the last 48 hours is the public polling." And just in case you give a flying Frisbee what I'm thinking ... I think this is a campaign ploy that went wrong. McCain wanted to look presidential. He wanted to show the voters that he would put aside the frivolity of campaigning when there was honest-to-goodness work to be done in Washington. Trouble is, the Obama campaign and the media are all to eager to remind the voters that it was McCain who said that he wasn't all that up-to-speed on matters economic. I can hear the leftist chattocracy now: "McCain knew that this debate would move into economic matters, and he didn't feel prepared to address them." Sorry ... but not a good move.
Moving right along ... Harry Reid had his boxers in a bunch just the other day complaining that John McCain hasn't shown leadership on this financial crisis. Just yesterday, Harry Reid told reporters, 'We need the Republican nominee for president to let us know where he stands and what we should do.' Then the very next day, John McCain calls up Harry Reid and asks if he can come and sit down with Reid, Obama and others to work out a bipartisan proposal ... and Harry Reid says no. Just how do you folks think you're going to like it when our government - and our country - are run by the troika of Obama, Pelosi and Reid. Sounds pretty funky, doesn't it?
So Barack Obama is the one calling John McCain a "hard-charging populist." At a rally yesterday, Obama said that John McCain may criticize Wall Street executives now but he failed to speak out against "their huge salaries" a year ago. Oh and McCain still backs policies that "favor the wealthy over the working families." That's such a worn - out class warfare line for the Democrats. Look, folks, are some of these CEO packages over the top? You betcha. But first and foremost, this is exactly what we were expecting from the Obama campaign. Play the wealth envy card. Tie this financial crisis to John McCain, say he is only going to help wealthy people, and ... boom ... you've got yourself a mess of ignorant voters. Obama knows that there is tremendous jealousy out there for those who have worked harder, made the tough decisions and earned more .. and he is determined to exploit every bit of it. So what exactly is Barack Obama referring to when he says that John McCain didn't speak out a year ago about Wall Street salaries? It's called the Shareholder Vote on Executive Compensation Act. Barack Obama was a co-sponsor of the bill. The bill would have mandated that all aspects of CEO compensation, including severance packages, be subject to approval by shareholders. John McCain opposed the idea ... oh wait, but the bill never came to a vote in the Senate. Now, the bad news for all you fiscal conservatives? John McCain has since changed his position. Back in April 2008, we brought you a story on Nealz Nuze about John McCain wanting to "shine a light on the issue of executive pay packages." Since then he has called for a shareholder vote on pay for corporate CEOs. The minute that the government starts telling a private companies what they can and cannot pay their top employees we move closer to economic fascism. For those of you who couldn't possibly define the term (i.e., the government educated among you) that would mean an economy where the means of production are privately owned but controlled by the political class. Now this Shareholder Vote on Executive Compensation Act wouldn't have just applied to companies like Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. We are talking about a government law that would tell companies how to determine their CEO pay packages. If the shareholders want the final say on compensation packages, they can vote on just such a proposal. Nothing is stopping them. By the way, politicians in Washington right now are up in arms over executive pay packages and how they will be handled in this bailout. Secretary Paulson finally said that he would accept some kind of limits on CEO pay. I can see that if we're talking about the pay of CEOs of companies bailed out by the taxpayers. I wonder, though, how many truly extraordinarily qualified executives are going to be lost to the private sector because politicians are so eager to play the wealth envy game.
Well you've almost got your wish. Yesterday the House approved a $25 billion loan for the auto industry. And they want an additional $25 billion next year too. The Bush administration will have two months to write the rules for the loans and the auto industry could start seeing the money by the end of the year. Next .. the credit card companies.
New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman suggests that this mortgage bailout should come with green strings attached. By that he means that environmentalists should propose that green building requirements be incorporated into new mortgages. At a book appearance in Washington D.C., Friedman said that any construction financed by government-funded (taxpayer funded) mortgages should be certified "green" by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System. Oh great .. another government hurdle to overcome. Friedman says, "If we're going to be in the mortgage business as a government, then every government-funded mortgage - at least for a new building - means that building has to be at least Silver LEED certified, okay?" How much more bizarre can this nonsense get? This bit is getting really tiring. Here are two stories to make you groan. Last week, John McCain and Barack Obama held a rally in Youngstown, Ohio. This apparently started a brouhaha with Democrat state legislators. Two Ohio legislators were upset that the polling numbers are still tight between Obama and McCain ... and the reason they cited ---- race, of course. State Rep. Thomas Letson said, "Race - that's the only reason people in the Valley won't vote for him ... There are 1,000 reasons to vote for Obama and one reason why you won't - race." He says that "staunch Republicans" who make up about 40% of the population would never vote for a Democrat regardless of race. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that Obama is a Marxist who befriends terrorist bomb-throwers. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with Obama's idea that you should take money away from evil rich people and give it to people who have not earned it, not because you need the revenue, but because it's only "fair.' It has nothing to do with the fear that some people have of an Obama, Pelosi, Reid government. No ... it has to be all about race. Moving right along ... a Democrat House Representative from Florida was speaking to an audience of Jewish Democrats. That's when the Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings came up with this line: you should be wary of Sarah Palin because "anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks ... If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention." Can you believe this jerk used to be a federal judge? Yeah ... right up until he was impeached. When The Chosen One is elected we're going to have four years of this horsesqueeze.

Joe Biden says that John McCain is "dangerously wrong" on national security. Is that why Biden voted against the troop surge? John Stossel has some thoughts on our lack of market discipline, saying that this is story of "cynical political opportunism." Do you speak "ObamaSpeak"? The Chosen One's campaign themes have become a regular part of the English language and U.S. television culture. Get yours while they last! A company in Birmingham is making commemorative silver coins for Barack Obama. Guaranteed to tarnish. Michelle Malkin points out that illegal immigration plays a role in this mortgage meltdown. Tony Blankley says that the mainstream media is now "straight-out propagandists for the Obama campaign." Gee ... I wonder what his first clue was. A lot of you emailed this story to us ... Luke Russert on the "Today Show" said that smarter college students favor Barack Obama. He has since tried to back-peddle on his comment. A Spanish-language Obama ad accuses Rush Limbaugh of playing into racial fears. Limbaugh calls Obama on it. The media did a slam-bang job of reporting this one. The McCain campaign continues to point out that the New York Times is nothing but an Obama advocacy organization. In Georgia, we are currently having a debate over extending the list of public places where you would have the right to carry a handgun. These government outrages are just so darn easy to find ... the government (taxpayers) paid $1 billion in questionable Medicare claims including special diabetic shoes for leg amputees. And you want the government to be in charge of your healthcare?? Go ahead, vote for Barack Obama. A man in custody passes gas on a police officer ... he will now be charged with battery on a police officer. Here's a DRT story from Kansas City, Missouri. An 18-year-old thought it would be real cool to rob a convenience store at gunpoint. I love it. This predator will never rob a convenience store again. Did you miss Neal's interview with John McCain? Listen to the whole thing here and find out what he had to say when Neal asked him about the FairTax. John McCain snubbed David Letterman for Katie Couric. So naturally Letterman spent his whole monologue slamming McCain. And of course, John Stewart had something to say about the campaign suspension on The Daily Show. Watch Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric. | |||||
