CONGRESSIONAL SPENDING TRAVEL SPREE

Previous Posts

By Neal Boortz

Politicians in Washington seem to enjoy making a spectacle of private sector travel or private jets, etc. They like to make a mockery of corporate CEOs who travel in private jets or spend money on trips to Las Vegas. So I just wanted to turn the tables for a second and focus on our government and its travel habits.

Take a look at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. If you'll remember, the newest chairman of this committee is none other than John Kerry. Since John Kerry has taken over, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has spent more on international travel than any other year. Yes, this comes at a time when our country is running record deficits and while Obama is calling for a spending freeze. This is also happening when you, the taxpayers, are already on the hooks for billions of dollars in bailouts and takeovers. But in 2009, John Kerry's committee spent more on international travel than any other year in history.

Kerry and his fellow Democrats spent nearly a million dollars on more than 75 trips to more than 50 countries. This is more than double the number of trips and three times the costs racked up by Republicans in the committee. Under Kerry's leadership, the Democrats managed to spend more in the first three quarters of the year than the entirety of 2008.

There are no rules for these people. Rulers don't have rules. Leaders do. These people aren't leaders.
