The next couple of months will be crucial for debate over tax reform. There is no doubt that something needs to change .. the problem is that Democrats want it to change to become even more progressive and burdensome to the productive. Tax reform to a Democrat means finding new ways to redistribute wealth. Republicans? Gutless. No comprehensive tax reform plan on the table yet. There's the FairTax, of course ... but Republicans can't stand up to the demagoguery.
Make no mistake - a value-added tax will be proposed by Obama's deficit commission. Even Republican Rep. Paul Ryan's "road map" for America contains a VAT. Nancy Pelosi has confirmed that it is "on the table." And the co-chair of Obama's debt commission has hinted at his support of a VAT. And remember, the VAT is particularly appealing to our rulers. It allows the rulers to maintain even more power over you, and it allows them to raise even more revenue without you even realizing it. It is a hidden tax, and this hidden tax will absolutely lead to one thing: bigger government.
If you want even more government, a bigger government .. then go ahead and slap that VAT bumper sticker on the back of your car.
As I said, I do support a consumption-based, rather than income-based, tax system. It is called the FairTax. The FairTax would do more to put the power back in the hands of the people, the consumers and the businesses than any Obama stimulus program. We have seen the results of what happens when the government spends obscene amounts of money ... take a look around, this is it. How's it working out for you?
