CUT THE 'FORTUNATE' NONSENSE

I suppose this could be classified under a "Rectal-Cranial Inversion Moment of the Day" .. but then again, I am coming to believe that this guy has a permanent case of this disease. Our tax cheat Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner used one of my favorite phrases the other day ...

"What we're allowing to expire is the tax cuts that President Bush put in place for the most fortunate, the richest 2 to 3 percent of Americans."

I am so sick to death of this class-warfare use of the word "fortunate." Webster's defines "fortunate" as "receiving some unexpected good." Another definition is "receiving something good from an unexpected source." If your number hits on the roulette wheel you are fortunate. A person who wins the lottery is fortunate. This is why Democrats have often used the phrase "won life's lottery" to refer to high achievers. If you earn wealth by working your ass off and exercising caution in your decision making process you are not fortunate ... you have simply earned the reward that comes with that hard work. The problem here is that liberals do not want the wealthy to be seen as having actually earned what they have. There still remains a sense of fair play with most Americans ... and it is more difficult to convince them that plunder is acceptable if the people being plundered have actually worked for and earned what is being taken away from them; thus the use of the "F" word. If you can convince the people that the wealthy only have that wealth because they were lucky .. that they received it from some unexpected source .. then it is easier to legitimize plunder.

This brings us to our willful, intentional tax cheat Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and his "tax cuts ... for the most fortunate" statement. Geithner is playing the wealth-envy game. The message here is that the Obama Administration is going to even out the results of the game of life. Those who were lucky .. who won the lottery .. will have their stuff taken away from them and given to the people who made loosing bets. This is wildly popular with the people who think this is all a game of chance, and that they just put their chips on the wrong number.

So it always has been ... so it is now ... and so shall it ever be.
