RELIGION IN THE NUZE

Previous Posts

Because I am so famous for being a fair kind of guy, I am going to provide a Christian religion story and .. just so someone doesn't feel left out .. I'll provide a Muslim story, too! Gawd knows how much you people LOVE it when I get into religion. You do know, don't you (and I'm being serious here) that the conventional wisdom at Pensacola High School was that I was going to be a preacher. As Brother Dave said ... Well, I am. The only difference is, I'm preaching FOR it.

Lordy .. I miss Brother Dave. Amen

OK ... so here's the first story is causing quite a brouhaha here in Georgia and even nationally. Here's the deal:

An Augusta State University graduate student sued the university in federal court Wednesday asserting professors told her to change her religious beliefs in order to remain in her counseling program.

According to the lawsuit filed by the Alliance Defense Fund, Jennifer Keeton, 24, has voiced her Christian beliefs inside and outside the classroom on homosexuality and other biblical teachings. ASU faculty has ordered her to undergo a remediation plan, which would include diversity sensitivity workshops, or face expulsion from the counseling program. Keeton plans to become a school counselor and says she refuses to change her religious beliefs.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the school told here to change her religious viewpoints ... and it wouldn't surprise me if you have a problem with that. Does it surprise you that I don't? Just what is the problem here? Well ... Jennifer thinks that homosexuality is a choice. Here we have an institution of higher learning training someone who intends to become a counselor in our government schools ... and she thinks that homosexuality is a choice. I believe that this school has a responsibility to9 the community to keep Jennifer as far away from the school counselor's office (unless, of course, she is the one being counseled) as possible. Out kids are screwed up enough when they escape these government schools ... why make things worse?

Ruh Roh. Here it somes. I'm guessing there will be at least 349 "I'm never going to listen to you again" emails today. That's fine. I don't say what I say to attract listeners. Listeners come to this show because I can be counted on to say what I believe .. and not to pander to their mindless prejudices. It is my position that people who believe that homosexuality is a choice don't need to be in the business of counseling people .. and if Augusta State can weed them out before they get to our kids, so much the better.

Oh .. and by the way. For those of you who buy in to this "homosexuality is a choice" Bravo Sierra ... a question. If homosexuality is a choice then it must be that heterosexuality is a choice as well. Why don't you attach something to that nasty email you're preparing telling me at just what point you made the choice to be a heterosexual. How did that happen? I guess you were feeling a little horny one day - there was both a male and a female ready to rock - and you told them to just cool their jets for a while so that you could figure out whether you wanted to be gay or straight. Yeah .. that's how it worked, isn't it?

The next story has Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey is some hot water. He is a candidate for Governor. This one is for the Muslims ...

At a recent event in Hamilton County, Ramsey was asked by a man in the audience about the "threat that's invading our country from the Muslims." Ramsey proclaimed his support for the Constitution and the whole "Congress shall make no law" thing when it comes to religion. But he also said that Islam, arguably, is less a faith than it is a "cult."

"Now, you could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality, way of life, cult whatever you want to call it," Ramsey said. "Now certainly we do protect our religions, but at the same time this is something we are going to have to face."

Bravo, Mr. Ramsey. Get ready for the death threats. He's right. When you have a group of people who sign on to the idea of honor killings, the subjugation and stoning of women and the murder or enslavement of people who do not share your beliefs ... perhaps the word for these people might be "menacing mob" rather than religious followers.

Let's see ... can I say anything about the Jews here just to even things out a bit? OK .. how about this. What the hell is your problem with bacon? I love bacon. I had some this morning for breakfast and I'm pretty sure God isn't all that upset about it.

There. Now let's move on.
