THE RESULT OF THIS CRISIS WILL BE CAP-AND-TRADE

Previous Posts

Princess Pelosi has a message for the American people: passing cap-and-trade legislation is not just important but it is our "moral responsibility." Get off your high horse Nancy. I mean, c'mon folks .. can't these politicians surprise us for once? They are getting a little predictable, don't ya think? The obvious "solution" to this "crisis" was for Democrats to push their dreams and schemes of cap-and-trade legislation. Add that notch to their belt, along with government-run healthcare and a stimulus package filled with nothing more than politician pork dreams. So if you have finished eating your breakfast, here is what Princess Pelosi had to say.

"It is a defense, a security issue, a health issue, an environmental issue, it is an economic issue, and it is a moral issue for us to honor the obligation we have to pass this planet on to future generations intact ... And, if you believe, as I do, that it is also that this is God's beautiful creation, we have a moral responsibility to preserve it.

"So, whatever achieves that result, Congress will work its will," she said. "We will have a legislative process that sees what options work, that can pass, that honor the principles that the President set forth and that many in the Congress have been advocating for a long time. As you may recall, I called this my flagship issue when I became speaker."

Ah, there we go! This was Nancy's flagship issue! That's reason enough to pass the darn thing, right? Then she goes on to say ...

"There is, as you may know about me, I am fairly agnostic about the means to the end in terms of what mechanism is used."

Let me de-code that for you. Let me slip into the mind of Nancy Pelosi and decipher what is going on here. Basically, we will do WHATEVER arm twisting, backroom deals, and politicking it may take in order to get this thing rammed through Congress. It's a crisis so we have to get it done now! What IS a crisis at this point for Democrats is not finding a solution to an oil spill; it is about saving their butts in November. That is the crisis. And trust me, for some of them it is a real crisis.

OK .. so Princess Pelosi wants her flagship issue to be signed into law. Remember that a cap-and-trade bill passed the House last summer. If that same bill were to pass the Senate and be signed by the president - which is highly unlikely, by the way - it would require Americans to reduce our carbon emissions by 83% in less than four decades. In forty years, we would be required to revert back to the per-capita level of emissions from 1867. Seriously! Even OwlGore wasn't asking for that. He would probably plant a wet one right on Nancy's lips if she managed to get this thing passed into law. And just like the healthcare bill, it is over 1,000 pages of indecipherable regulations and codes, which is a guarantee that not one member of Congress has read or will read the bill. And just like the healthcare bill, we will have to pass it immediately! There will be no time to waste. We are responding to a crisis, remember?

What is the result of this legislation? It will artificially drive up the price of fossil-fuel so high that we will somehow be forced to get along with only 17% of our current consumption. Eventually this will lead to a demand for alternative sources of energy, which would look like chump change compared to the artificial prices of fossil fuels. This seems like a scheme that the Community Organizer would gladly push for. Remember Obama's comment on the campaign trail, "So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can -- it's just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

That is the way our new economy works. When I say "new economy" I am referring to an economy led by the government, rather than the private sector. Government will pick the winners and losers in the energy debate, and it will all be done under the guise of a "crisis" and a "solution" to the oil spill in the Gulf.
