SHOULD THE FEDS INVESTIGATE?

By Neal Boortz

It's a simple question. Now here's the scenario. The other day Michelle Obama visited an elementary school in the Washington area. Sitting in a circle with Michelle Obama, a little girl raises her hand and tells the First Lady that her mom says that Barack Obama wants to "take away people" who don't have papers. Then the little girl lets it slip: "My mommy doesn't have papers." Uh oh. Maybe mommy should have let her little girl that this is a fact she should NOT share with the class, especially with the First Lady.

Immediately the school went on the defensive. Montgomery County, Maryland school spokesman Dana Tofig says that the district does "not ask about the immigration status of our students and their families." She says, "There was a Supreme Court decision that makes it clear that if there's proof of residency in the county, then we educate the child." The problem, then, is with the law, not the school's principal. If you have to educate every child anyway ... what's the point in questioning them about residency status? Change the law!

Moving right along .. so we get this admission from this little girl that her madre is an illegal alien. The Feds have decided that they are not going to follow up and, if it turns out to be true, deport the mother. DHS spokesman Matt Chandler says that immigration enforcement investigations are based on "solid law enforcement work and not classroom Q and As." So this leads me to an insensitive question: Should the mother be investigated, and if she is illegal than should she be deported? My answer? Let's consider this incident with the daughter and the First Lady to be a poisoned tree. The admission by the little girl would, then, be considered to be fruit from the poisoned tree and should not be used. This little girl loves her mother ... for ICE to head to their home, stuff them into a bus and drive them to the border would forever destroy the relationship between the two. If this woman shows up on ICE radar under some completely different set of circumstances ... then follow the law. But leave this innocent little girl alone.
