.... read this. [fixed link...now completely gore free! -ww]
Later on in the Nuze you're going to read once again about how these tea partiers out there are nothing but a bunch of racist and dangerous goons hell bent on destruction and violence. Many of you will recognize this as the panicky bleatings of Statists who see their dream of turning American into a European welfare state with a government-controlled economy threatened.
Now I know that sometimes it doesn't exactly sound like it on the air, but I actually do sit around and read newspapers and magazines as I prepare for the next day's show. Thankfully much of this can be accomplished on the Internet. Last evening I discovered a column by Arthur C. Brooks in (of all places) The Washington Post. The column is six pages long. Just guessing ... but I'm putting it at between 2,500 and 3,000 words. The title is "America's new culture war: Free enterprise vs. government control."
Let me just give you a taste of the column ....
"But the real tipping point was the financial crisis, which began in 2008. Te meltdown presented a golden opportunity for the 30 percent coalition [the 30% of Americans who favor a government-controlled economy over capitalism] to attack free enterprise openly and remake America in its own image.
And it seized that opportunity. While Republicans had no convincing explanation for the crisis, seemed responsible for it and had no obvious plans to fix it, the statists offered a full and compelling narrative. Ordinary Americans were not to blame for the financial collapse, nor was government. The real culprits were Wall Street and the Bush Administration, which had gutted the regulatory system that was supposed to keep the banks in line. ..... Yet in truth, it was government housing policy that was at the root of the crisis."
Tell you what I would like to do ... I would like to read the whole column on the show today. I don't, however, want the show to turn into me reading other people's stuff. But I will beg you to read it. Here's the link. Print this column, read it time and time again. Here you will learn what is really driving the tea party patriots round this country. It's not racism nor the desire to respond violently to the outrages of the ObamaNation. We may not be able to put together a few thousands words as adroitly as Arthur C. Brooks does, but we understand that something terrible is happening in Washington DC. Though 70% of Americans think they would be better off living in a free enterprise system, the 30% that wants a government-controlled economy has found itself in charge. If they stay in charge the America you knew as a child will in no way resemble the America your child will know. Click here. Print this ... read it ... make copies ... send them to your kids in college. Brooks did a wonderful job of presenting the scenario ... now we wonder why in the world the Washington Post printed it.
