In case you didn't mark your calendars, the season began on June 1st. It officially ends today. As the season started the "experts" at the Colorado State University's Tropical Meteorology Project said we would have above-average activity. More specifically, there were going to be 11-16 named storms, 6-8 hurricanes and 3-5 major storms. Joe Bastardi of AccuWeather.com said that two or three hurricanes would make major landfalls in the U.S. Sooooooooooo ... I thought about it and said to myself: "Self! Do you remember any hurricanes hitting the U.S. this year?" The answer was "No." So then I did the research ... and guess what? Self was right. Not one hurricane made landfall in the U.S. during this season. So ... as they say, wait 'till next year. Durned global warming is making it tough on everybody.
