Yesterday I told you that some Democrats are using the FairTax to demonizing Republican opponents who support the plan. The usual claim is that So-and-so wants to "add a 23% sales tax to the price of everything you buy, including food and medicine."

The truth? Well you already know the truth ... So-and-so wants to replace all of the federal taxes you pay now with a 23% national sales tax. Plus .. So-and-so wants to make sure that nobody pays any taxes at all to the federal government until they've first taken care of the basic needs of their family. Plus - the price of consumer goods won't because of all of the embedded taxes in those items, amounting to about 22% of the price, will disappear. Well, clearly that wouldn't be a good attack ad, so the Democrats leave that part out.

Congressman Gabrielle Giffords, a Democrat from Arizona, has used that line of attack against her opponent, Jesse Kelly. Unlike in so many other races around the country, Arizona Daily Star reporter Andrea Kelly actually tried to do some research and report on the veracity of Gifford's statements.
