I seem to be taking a lot of heat lately over things that I don’t say. In some cases we’ll have some prog take a tape of my comments, edit that tape, and then play it back on their show to make it look like I’ve said something completely outrageous. In other cases the prog just assumes I said something … and proceeds with a commentary.
Regarding Obama’s vacation. In all fairness, have any of you heard me slam Obama for taking a vacation? I may have questioned Martha’s Vineyard as a venue because of the image that place portrays, but I have not criticized the decision to take some time off. In fact, I have pointed out that presidents never really get to take time off. It’s a 24/7/365 job. There’s always someone outside his bedroom door even when he’s sleeping ready to wake him up if he’s needed to handle a crisis.
None of this matters to CNN’s Roland Martin. Martin wrote a column for Saturday’s CNN.com about those people slamming Obama for taking a vacation. Martin decided he needed an example, so he chose little old me! Here’s the paragraph:
“It's a joke to listen to loudmouths on radio like Neal Boortz take shots at the president for going on vacation, when he takes time off!”
I pointed out his error, and suggested that perhaps the right thing to do would be to offer a retraction or an apology. Martin’s response? “Boortz didn’t’ even graduate from Texas A&M.” He’s right, actually. I left with a few hours of summer school needed to finish .. and never went back to get those hours. I was just too busy making a complete failure out of myself in broadcasting.
In the world of CNN’s Roland Martin the fact that I “didn’t even graduate from Texas A&M” is the perfect excuse for him mischaracterizing my position on Obama’s vacation. I guess that’s the way things are done at CNN. Even by an Aggie who is supposed to never “lie, cheat or steal or tolerate those who do.” Guess he isn’t an Aggie any more.
Neal Boortz chronicles his 42 years of talk radio in his book "Maybe I Should Just Shut Up and Go Away" Available on line and printed from Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
