POWER PLAY

One of the items from last night's speech that is getting a fair amount of press is PrezBo's call for a ban on earmarks. He actually said he would veto any bill that contained earmarks. (I'm calling BS on this one). This was one of the main driving points of the Tea Party and was even poo-pooed by some Republicans in Congress. But now PrezBo has thrown it out there, so we will see how many in Congress jump on the bandwagon.

One person who will not be boarding the Earmark Ban Express is Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid. He insists that it is Congress' job to congressionally direct spending. Reid says, "I think this is an issue that any president would like to have, that takes power away from the legislative branch of government and I don't think that's helpful. I think it's a lot of pretty talk and it's only giving the president more power. He's got enough power already."

You will notice that in this debate, there is no concern about the taxpayers or our outrageous spending. The only concern for these politicians in Washington is one thing: power. How much power do they have? How much power are they losing or giving up? Meanwhile, us suckers are stuck footing the bill for their ego trips.
