I got into this 3D kick over the past weekend and started running off to the Silverspot Cinema (Mercato, Naples) to take in a few.  Tuesday night I saw The Green Lantern

Now I’m not a comic book sort of guy.  Haven’t read one since I was in high school (though I am aware that the “Boortz” name has this odd propensity for showing up in Spiderman Comics.)  So I wandered into the movie with no clue who the Green Lantern might be.

It turns out that the evil entity in this particular Green Lantern movie was some glob named Parallax.  Apparently Parallax feeds on fear.  The more fear Parallax can absorb from its victims the stronger Parallax becomes.  Parallax apparently poses little threat to those without fear.

After the movie was over; and after I took off my 3D glasses and my eyes uncrossed; it occurred to me that Parallax exists right here in our country and, as in the movie, is bent on destruction.  And here too Parallax gets its strength from the fear of its victims.  And just who in our body politics gains strength from fear?  That would be the Democrat Party.  Tell people they’re going to lose their Social Security.  Wizened citizens become afraid and the Democrat Party become stronger.  Tell people that the Republicans want to end Medicare; they want old people to get sick and die; and, in fact, they push old ladies off cliffs in wheelchairs – people become afraid and the Democrat Party becomes stronger.

I think it’s commendable for the Hollywood film industry to give us this wonderful object lesson as the election season heats up.  Just remember --- Barack Obama is Parallax.
