In the latest Rasmussen generic poll, things aren’t looking too good for the Chosen One, Barack Obama.  A generic poll just means “any Republican candidate” versus Barack Obama.  So when that is the case, 42% of Americans say they would vote for Obama while 46% say they would vote for the Republican candidate .. whoever that turns out to be.  Now when you match him up against specific Republican candidates, that may be a different story.  But the fact is that for weeks now, Americans have been saying that they would rather vote for anyone other than Barack Obama.

Now, in the past, the Tea Party has been a force to be reckoned with.  It has shown that it has political clout by influencing important votes, generating voter turnout and supporting popular candidates who are actually able to win.  So at this point, who is the Tea Party most excited about?  Well according to a McClatchy-Marist poll released Wednesday, Rick Perry is the top choice for Tea Party supporters.  He has 20% of the Tea Party support, followed by Mitt Romney with 17%, Sarah Palin with 16% and Michele Bachmann with 12%.  No mention of Herman Cain.

I have no idea how accurately this poll reflects Tea Party voters, but the fact is that Republicans have a real shot of winning the presidency if things keep going like this for Barack Obama.  We have a lonnng way to go until November 2012, so my advice to Republicans is: don’t blow it.  Your grandchildren can’t afford it.
