My long-time listeners know that in the past I've had plenty to say about car deal advertisements on radio and TV. I've even developed a theory that has stood the test of time. The louder and more obnoxious the commercial the dumber they think their customers are. You will never see dealers selling more expensive automobiles screaming at their customers in ads. Now what does that tell you?
Well ... I think I've seen the ultimate now. The ads are so horrific I can't even remember the dealer's name ... I just watch this stuff on TV in total shock that a grown man would present himself to potential customers this way .. and that the cute blonde (have no idea who she is or what her relationship to the fat slob dealer might be) puts up with this nonsense.
The ads appear on Ft. Myers, Florida television stations. In the most grotesque version you have fat guy waving a foot-long hot dog in the blonde's face while she is trying to deliver the car pitch. Fat guy leers at her, waving the hot dog inches from her face and yelling "It's huge!" Does this imagery have to be explained to any of you?
I just cannot understand what type of consumer would respond to an advertisement like this. I guess this is why we have tattoo parlors.
