Graduates! Your Guide to Selecting a Political Party

You’re just out of college – many of you with your Meathead Majors – and there’s an election around the corner.  Some of you will move to states where you have to register as a member of a specific political party.

We know how you choose a political party is going to depend in large part upon how quickly you figure out that you don't really have all of the answers to the questions and problems that plague mankind.  For some, this process takes years.  Others begin to form this understanding soon after beginning their first post graduate job.  Another element in your process of choosing a political party will be the formation of that part of your brain where judgment develops.  Science has discovered that in most young people the portion of the brain where judgment is developed doesn't fully form until around the age of 25.  For many of you, that's still a few years away.  Worry not, however, because I'm here to help.

If you look far enough into your future, perhaps this simplified guide will help.  Choose the person you want to be in your life, and your choice of political parties is clear.

You do not believe in self reliance.  You believe that it is the role of the federal government to provide you with the basic necessities of life thus leaving you free to "do your own thing."  You believe that it is somebody else's responsibility to provide you with a job, a place to live, paid vacations, and, of course, your medical care.  You believe that it is your right to have a baby without any consideration whatsoever being given to the question of whether or not you can afford to raise a child.  If you find that this paragraph pretty much describes you, you need to register to vote as a Democrat.

You believe in self reliance, and if you believe that it is the responsibility of every adult citizen to live their life in such a manner that they do not become a burden on complete strangers.  You believe that America's greatness comes from the dynamic of free people working cooperatively with one another in a social and economic system based on liberty and the rule of law.  You believe, as did our founding fathers, that in times of peace 95% of governance should come from the local level.  You believe that capitalism and free enterprise have lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system in the history of mankind.  If you find that this paragraph pretty much describes you, you need to register as a Republican and you need to vote as a libertarian in all elections where you can be assured that your vote will not result in the election of a Democrat.

Hope that helps.
