Newt Gingrich has a writing partner named William Forstchen.  Forstchen has assisted Newt in writing several of his historical novels … absolutely amazing books all.  Worthy of a read whether you like Gingrich or not.

Several years ago Forstchen wrote a book titled “One Second After.”  Here’s the link if you want to read it, and I recommend it highly.  What’s it about?  Well here’s the blurb from Publisher’s Weekly:

In this entertaining apocalyptic thriller from Forstchen (We Look Like Men of War), a high-altitude nuclear bomb of uncertain origin explodes, unleashing a deadly electromagnetic pulse that instantly disables almost every electrical device in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. Airplanes, most cars, cellphones, refrigerators—all are fried as the country plunges into literal and metaphoric darkness. History professor John Matherson, who lives with his two daughters in a small North Carolina town, soon figures out what has happened. Aided by local officials, Matherson begins to deal with such long-term effects of the disaster as starvation, disease and roving gangs of barbarians. While the material sometimes threatens to veer into jingoism, and heartstrings are tugged a little too vigorously, fans of such classics as Alas, Babylon and On the Beachwill have a good time as Forstchen tackles the obvious and some not-so-obvious questions the apocalypse tends to raise. It really is an interesting book.  Just a few EMP bombs could do just exactly what is depicted in this book, and the damage would begin “one second after.”

But this brings up another interesting question:  What happens if Barack Obama wins reelection? How soon do we start to encounter the destructive effects of another Obama term?  One day?  A week?  So I suggested to Gingrich that he might want to get his buddy to write another book: “One Day After,” what happens to America after an electoral EMP bomb .. the reelection of Barack Obama.  Newt’s idea is to get together a group of well-known writers and have each write a chapter detailing what they think four more years of Obama would mean to the USA.

What do you think of the idea?   I’m ready for a chapter my own self!
