It’s 9/12. This would mean that the 9/11 “anniversary” is now past us. This certainly isn’t an original thought with me (few are), but I’m just not comfortable with the “anniversary” word here. Anniversaries are connected to -- celebrations of -- a positive event. The word is most closely associated with our marriages. Now some people may see a correlation between their marriages and the Islamic attack on America on 9/11 --but most don’t. Call it a remembrance, if you will ... or a commemoration. Some -- predominantly Muslims -- will call it a “celebration.”
That brings us to the”M” word. As I predicted on Friday, few newspapers actually bothered to mention that the attacks of ten years ago were brought to us courtesy of the wonderful, serene, peaceful religion of Islam. Now I say “few newspapers” to cover myself. Fact is, I didn’t see one single newspaper editorial -- or story, for that matter -- which mentioned that the attackers on 9/11 were Muslims or that the attacks were brought to America in the name of Muslim and its squeaky-clean founder, Muhammed. We’re coming up to the 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor ... and it will still be referred to as the “Japanese attack” on Pearl Harbor. But in the wonderful world of political correctness it is just oh so wrong to remind America who attacked us.
Al Qaeda may be decimated with most of it’s leaders dead or in Gitmo .. but the dedication of Muslim radicals to the destruction of America still lives, and the Quran still says that when a Muslim meets a non-believer he has three basic choices; convert him, enslave him or destroy him. I’m sorry if that’s politically incorrect (like I care) but the Quran still says it and many Muslims still believe it. Islam is a religion on the ascendency, and across the world when Muslims reach a certain percentage of the population the darker side of the religion emerges. We’re not there in America --- yet. Some who have studied the religion suggest that the threshold may be around 2.5% or so. But whatever that threshold is, when we reach it the calls for Sharia Law and other accommodations will be demanded and, if denied, met with violence.
It seems absurd that political corrects prevents us from recognizing and identifying an enemy that is still dedicated to our destruction. We may well end up paying for this in ways much more traumatic than 9/11.
