Our pal Herman Cain won Florida’s Presidency 5 straw poll over the weekend. He didn’t just win .. he creamed the competition. Herman won 37% of the vote, winning more support than Rick Perry (15%) and Mitt Romney (14%) combined. Here’s how the rest of the field fell: Rick Santorum (11%), Ron Paul (10%), Newt Gingrich (8%), Jon Huntsman (2.3%) and Michele Bachmann came in dead last with 1.5%. Wow, talk about a loss of momentum for Bachmann ..
So what does this all mean? Well for starters we should note that every winner of Florida’s Presidency 5 straw poll has gone on to win the GOP nomination. If that statistic proves to be true again for 2012, then you will hear no complaints from me.
Florida voters may be more familiar with Herman Cain than other states, which goes to show that people who know Herman Cain really like what they see. He consistently scores the highest on the positive-intensity ratings for the candidates. Perhaps this win in Florida will be just what he needs to become a more familiar face on a national scale. Because from what we can tell, once people get to know him, they will love him.
But what do I know? We’ll talk to the man himself, Herman Cain, today on the program at 10am ET. We will also talk to Jamie Dupree at 10:30AM to get his insight into Herman’s big win and how it will affect the GOP landscape. Did you miss it? Listen here.
Here is a look at how the pundits are interpreting Herman’s big win …
Byron York: How Cain Won Florida
The Weekly Standard: A No Confidence Vote in Orlando
National Journal: GOP to Perry: Honeymoon Over
Also, here’s a sound bite that got a lot of press over the weekend. Herman Cain was on with Neil Cavuto after his win in Florida, and here is what he had to say in response to recent comments made by actor Morgan Freeman about tea partiers being racist.
Also be sure to tune into the show today to hear how SNL had a little fun with Herman over the weekend.
