Now we’re told that Democrat Governor Beverly Perdue of North Carolina was kidding when she suggested that we suspend congressional elections for the next couple of years. At a Rotary Club meeting Perdue was quoted as saying, “I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”
There’s an easier way to solve this than some dim-witted idea to suspend elections. It’s called term limits. With term limits, we break the cycle of these career politicians who are wholly investment in maintaining their politician lifestyle rather than representing their constituents. They would do or say anything to get re-elected, and that includes pandering to the dumb masses and leaving the “hard stuff” for the next sap to kick the can further down the road.
Yes … I have some problems with term limits, but with the degree to which so many of these political hacks are entrenched in power in DC, maybe the time has come to limit time in office.
If anything, we need a massive overhaul in Congress, not the maintenance of the status quo. Look at what good these current politicians have done us. Why are we to assume that they will do any better if given more time and lack of accountability?
