Yeah, I know. I’m supposed to be on vacation --- our here on the left coast. But I did get up early Saturday morning to watch the goings-on in Norfolk where Mitt Romney was announcing his vice-presidential pick, Paul Ryan.
I like it. I like it for a number of reasons. Ryan is a better public speaker than Romney. You would have never seen Romney back Obama up against the wall the way Ryan did during that meeting on ObamaCare. Ryan, as many Americans who are not brain-dead, sees that our entitlements -- especially Medicare -- are an impending disaster for America. Not just for our economy, but for our country. Just how bad is our Medicare situation? For starters ... According to the Wall Street Journal, “In 1965, Congressional budgeters said that Medicare would cost $12 billion in 1990. Its actual cost that year was $90 billion. Whoops. The hospitalization program alone was supposed to cost $9 billion but wound up costing $67 billion.” Our political class has NEVER accurately estimated the cost of Medicare. Since 1965 they have consistently told us that Medicar would cost about one-tenth of what it actually ended up costing. Reform is needed. Obama and the Democrats would rather use Medicare to scare seniors than to reform it. They will tell seniors that Paul Ryan wants to take their Medicare away. The truth is, there is NOTHING in Ryan’s reform plans that would have any affect whatsoever on anyone over the age of 55. See if the ObamaMedia hammers THAT point home.

I’m not going to sit here on vacation and write an epistle for program notes We’ll come up with some reading assignments ... some other observations ... do the show and get on with the fun in the sun. But even more fun than my vacation --- I just can’t wait to see Paul Ryan debate Joe Biden. Biden is going to need a brain transfusion by the time this is over.
This election is by far the most important in the history of our country, and that includes Abraham Lincoln’s election during the Civil War. This country could have survived divided, regardless of what the speech said. But this country cannot survive if those who believe in entitlement -- in a womb-to-tomb nanny state -- aren’t stopped in their tracks. And I believe it’s stop them this year, or never.
