Taxes and the GOP Platform

By Neal Boortz

Every time I managed to catch a glimpse of a TV screen with coverage of the GOP convention, the likelihood is that it will be painted with talk of the GOP platform plank on abortion.  Considering this observation, can you tell me of one other idea included in the GOP platform?  Perhaps vaguely, but did you know that the platform apparently has language in there about the repeal of the 16th Amendment?  It states:

“In any restructuring of federal taxation, to guard against hypertaxation of the American people, any value added tax or national sales tax must be tied to the simultaneous repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment, which established the federal income tax.”

Screw the value added tax … a very bad idea.   I have a better idea: The FairTax!  It just so happens that repeal of the 16th Amendment is a required aspect of the implantation of the FairTax.  The legislative language is already there.  The sponsors in Congress are constantly growing.  If the GOP is as serious as it claims about tackling the issues and making the hard decisions, then the FairTax should be on the table as a viable solution to our pathetic excuse for a tax system.

Give the GOP credit though.  At least they have getting rid of the income tax on their minds …. That’s much more than you can say for the Democrats.
