The weekend belonged to Mitt Romney, though unenthusiastically.  He won the Maine caucuses beauty contest with 39% of the vote.  Ron Paul came in second with a close 36% of the vote.  Though this win means little when it comes to actual delegates because those will be chosen in May at a state convention.  Where do we go from here?  Jamie Dupree lays out where the polls stand in the upcoming primaries around the country.  In Georgia, for example, which votes on Super Tuesday … Newt Gingrich is leading, with Santorum gaining steam.  Mitt Romney is back in third place.

Also over the weekend, Mitt Romney squeaked out a victory at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington with 38% of the vote.  That was a surprise for many.  It seems that Ron Paul is the habitual winner of straw polls at this event.

If Mitt is having a hard time driving people to the polls, maybe he needs a strong Vice Presidential running-mate who DOES generate some conservative passion … maybe someone like Marco Rubio?  Rubio, as a matter of fact, won the Vice-presidential straw poll at CPAC.  Or maybe he needs some “bold solutions,” as Herman Cain would say.  I’ve got a bold solution for him, it’s called the FairTax, but I’m not holding my breath.
