Yesterday I opened the show and Nealz Nuze with a plea for help for three-year-old Owen Johnson, a young man who had his spinal cord severed in a horrific traffic accident in North Georgia last year; an accident that took the life of one of Owen’s sisters.  You can click here to read what I posted yesterday.  In short – we were looking for someone with a nice airplane to fly Owen from his home near Melbourne, Florida to the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio for surgery that doctors hope will eventually restore his ability to breathe.

I don’t want to go through the whole story here … you can click on the link and read yesterday’s post.  I just want to tell you about two organizations that stepped up to help.

First … Cox Enterprises (They own News/Talk WSB, my radio Mother Ship) will provide transportation for Owen to Cleveland.  I would not have presumed to ask them to do this.  A Cox official was listening to my show, as were many Cox employees.  The offer for the ride came almost immediately.  Then Greg Greenbaum, the president of CentraArchy Restaurant Management Company (the owners of The Tavern at Phipps and New York Prime in Atlanta) will provide the ride back home for Owen after his surgery.   Greg has invited me to be his co-pilot on that trip, so we’ll watch the schedule and see if we can make that happen.  Greg, by the way, is on the Board of
Directors of Angel Flight of Georgia. 

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the offers of help from Cox and Greg.  There were many other people lined up to help … and hundreds of listeners offered to make contributions to the family.  We have provided them with the necessary information.

So thanks to everyone out there.  My listeners (and the folks I work for) are truly incredible.
