Something interesting is happening that displays Americans’ true ignorance on taxation.  When asked if voters support increased taxes on the rich, the majority of Americans say, “Yeah, tax the tar out of those greedy SOBs!”  But then when you ask Americans about specific tax rates, it turns out that most Americans actually support lower taxes, even on the rich.

The big majority opted for a lower tax bill when asked to choose specific rates; precisely 75 percent said the right level for top earners was 30 percent or below.

The current rate for top earners is 35 percent. Only 4 percent thought it was appropriate to take 40 percent, which is approximately the level that President Obama is seeking from January 2013 onward.

What does this mean?  It means Americans are ignorant.  Most have no idea what Americans actually pay in income taxes.  Taxing the rich, in theory, sounds great to the moochers, but when it comes down to it they have no idea that we are already paying more than even they would like to see.  You can blame government education for this ignorance.
