Obama did a little bit of campaigning … yes, campaigning … yesterday at the United Auto Workers conference in Washington DC. During his remarks, we got a glimpse into the Marxist mind of Barack Obama.
“America’s not just looking out for yourself, it’s not just about greed, it’s not just about trying to climb to the very top and keep everybody else down.” Obama went on to explain that “we’re all in it together.”
In Obama’s world, someone cannot succeed without pushing somebody else down. To libs and proggies like Obama, the economic pie is only so big and if you get a bigger slice, this means that someone else got a smaller piece – and you have cheated them, and By God it’s just not FAIR! Wanting more than your “fair share” makes you greedy.
Unfortunately for Obama and his Democrat comrades, this is not the essence of America. America was founded on the notion that opportunities are endless and obtainable, so long as one works hard in their individual pursuits and succeeds. In America, we encourage growth. The more millionaires and businesses we can create in America, the better. But again, Obama thinks that there is a finite amount of wealth and if you accumulate too much, that means you are preventing someone else from wealth.
And about this “we’re all in it together” yaksqueeze … this is typical lib and proggie mentality. They despise the individual. Individual pursuits are seen as greedy in their eyes. They are always concerned about the group – women, blacks, seniors, unions. They do not see you as individuals but as a collective that they must find a way to control. In our modern society, libs and proggies have figured out that they can use the police power of government to seize private property from individuals and bribe these groups. With government benefits or privileges, these groups become enslaved and dependent on these libs and proggies to survive.
Yesterday, Obama also said, “You know, this notion that we should have let the auto industry die, that we should pursue anti-worker policies in the hopes that unions like yours will buckle and unravel, that’s part of that same old you-are-on-your-own philosophy that says we should just leave everybody to fend for themselves.”
The individual. Personal responsibility. Freedom. Property rights. Fending for yourself, self reliance, used to be an admired trait in this country. And when someone was in need of help, they turned to their family, their church, their communities or charity. Since when did the government become the replacement? Why is it now assumed that “charity” as provided by the government is any more virtuous than the charity provided by private individuals or organizations?
And as far as the unions unraveling, need I remind you that we are also a country based on the rule of law. When it came to the auto bailout, there are rules and procedures in place that allow for the bankruptcy and renegotiation of companies and contracts in this country. These laws are an important thread in the fabric of our society. But Obama was so eager to pander to this special interest group (the unions) that he essentially re-wrote the rules; much the same way a dictator would. Need I remind you of paying off the unions before the secured creditors?
Speaking of special interests … in Obama’s speech yesterday, he also tried to claim that unions like the UAW were not a special interest. Obama said, “They’re out there talking about you like your some special interest that needs to be beaten down.” CNSNews has done some great research to prove, emphatically, that unions are not only a special interest group but they are some of the largest special interest groups in this country! Here are some of the highlights …
Obama panders to the unions because he knows that this talk of the collective, “we’re in this together” is appealing to those who fear the free market and true competition.
