A few random and perhaps thoughts on the primary vote today in Florida …
The tea party movement has been, in my opinion, a little quiet lately. Where have been the rallies like we saw in 2010? But over the last few days, it seems they have finally gotten their butts in gear, and in Florida it looks like the two candidates that would be best to drive tea partiers to the polls are Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. It’s a little late to the dance, but maybe some wallflowers can be brought to the dance floor. We get this information from a straw poll conducted Sunday night by the Tea Party Patriots organization.
Newt Gingrich has been outspent by Mitt Romney in Florida by nearly $12 million. With that type of a spending edge, if Newt is anywhere near striking distance to Romney when the votes are added up I think we say we still have a horserace.
Sure the Republican Establishment is united against Gingrich. They wouldn’t invitations to dedications of outdoor toilets in our national parks if Newt pulls this one off.
Leading up to today’s vote, 34% of voters have already taken advantage of Florida’s early voting option. Will this have an effect on the outcome?
Last night NBC pulled an episode of Fear Factor where contestants were made to drink donkey semen and urine. Yet they allow Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews and Rachael Madcow to remain on the air.
These campaign ads in Florida are beyond all reason. Newt Gingrich was never fined $300K for an ethics violation, and Mitt Romney was never found guilty of Medicare fraud. But few voters will try to seek out the truth.
Which type of person concerns you the most? Someone who, on further reflection and with newfound facts, will change long held positions, and someone who will not? The Oval Office is no place for absolute rigidity. (Notice, please, I’ve avoided a cheap Monica Lewinsky reference here.)
