From Denver to Atlanta – and pretty well all points in between – gun sales to private citizens are surging. Here’s the way the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the story today:
Gun stores across metro Atlanta — and the nation — reported a surge in firearm sales following the mass shooting Friday that killed 12 people and injured dozens of others. Some gun buyers said they felt an urgent need to better protect themselves and their loved ones. Others said they wanted to take action before any movement emerged to increase restrictions on gun ownership.
The AJC, unlike some other news outlets, actually reported the WHOLE story. Yes, many of these people are buying guns for self protection. The truth is, though, that most of them don’t actually believe that they’re going to find themselves in a movie theater with a lunatic gunslinger any time soon.
So what is the PRIMARY reason behind this increase in gun sales? It’s not the predators and thugs they’re worried about as much as it is the left and Barack Obama. The smoke and gas hadn’t cleared out of the Aurora theatre before liberals started screaming about gun control. OK … so that’s par for the course. Liberals have always looked for an occasion to bleat about gun control, but there’s something a bit different this time around. This time you have proggies calling for gun control and a lawless president – a president who has about as much use for the rule of law and our Constitution as I have for a comb. People sense that if the voters of this country are actually stupid enough to reelect Barack Obama, Dear Ruler may very well seek to institute gun control pretty much the same way he gutted welfare reform – through a presidential Executive Order. Sure – it might very well be illegal, but what the hell does he care? After this ridiculous “ObamaCare is OK because it’s a tax” ruling from the Supreme Court, do you really think Obama believes they wouldn’t uphold pretty much anything he does? What the hell! Sign the order and let the people file lawsuits!
It’s not thoughts of mad lunatics in movie theatres that are sending people to gun stores; it’s the thought of Obama in the Oval Office for four more years.
