Someone walks up to you and asks you if you know about Operation Neptune. Probably you don’t. After all, it was 68 years ago, and most of the people listening to my show weren’t around. This was the Allied invasion – if you will – of Europe, a Europe under the control of the Germans. Do you want an idea of how big this operation was? Well around 160,000 troops landed on the beaches of Normandy that morning .. starting around 6:30. But the night before over 24,000 Allied troops parachuted into the French countryside behind German front lines. How many Allied ships did it take to pull this off? Try 5000. And how many Allied troops died that day? Try 10,000.
I know it’s a long time ago .. but this is a Day to Remember. You might find it very interesting to head to the Internet, Google “D-Day” and do some history reading.
Now … on to today … 68 years AFTER D-Day.
Neal Boortz chronicles his 42 years of talk radio in his book "Maybe I Should Just Shut Up and Go Away" Available on line and printed from Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
