Oh God. Let it be so …..
At this moment in the presidential campaign, an odd thing has happened … Democrats actually believe that Barack Obama can lose in November. He’s not infallible. He’s not incapable of escaping his record, presiding over the worst economic recovery in US history. Even Dear Ruler can’t overcome that. At least not at the moment.
Me? I will say that I am not so sure I buy into this. Some conservatives like Dick Morris and others are convinced that Obama will endure a spanking in November. Apparently more on the right (and the left) are now feeling the same way.
Don’t underestimate the power of the dumbmasses. Barack Obama has been an abysmal failure, but that is not what will win him re-election or cause him defeat in November. It will be his ability to convince the dumb, ignorant voters that he’s their guy. The reasons may be different. For some, he may capture them with the promise of wealth redistribution and nailing the rich SOBs in America. For others it may be the continuation of their welfare checks, allowing them to sleep at night knowing that the guy in the White House isn’t out to hold them personally responsible for their life choices … that the government will always be there for them. For a few eco-radicals, it will be because Obama’s is engaged in a war on the coal industry, and they want to make sure that he sees it through. And for a sad majority of Americans, it will be because it is the cool thing to do. They’ve done zero research into the economic policies or the tax policies of each candidate. Their vote will be based on Michelle Obama’s appearance on Entertainment Tonight or a political message piped out during American Idol.
Look, I understand … Mitt Romney outraised Obama in May by about $17 million. That’s great. But my warning is similar to by warning before the vote in Wisconsin where it looked like Scott Walker was going to walk away with the victory: Just because it looks like your guy is going to win, don’t stop working to make sure he gets elected. You can’t be complacent when there is this much at stake.
