New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg poses with Mickey Mouse at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. June 20, 2008.

Mayor Bloomberg has come under fire recently for his initiatives to limit the size of sugary drinks in New York City.  Now this healthy kick may extend to things like popcorn.  But in any event, when recently asked about these initiatives, he says that “if government’s purpose isn’t to improve the health and longevity of its citizens, I don’t know what its purpose is.”

Is that what you believe the purpose of government to be?  Where in the Constitution does it cite that it is the role of the government to improve the health of our citizens?  It is politicians like these who distort the true nature of their public service.  Their role is not to ensure that we live long, healthy lives … their job is to enact legislation that protects our life, liberty and property.  Period.  End of story.
